Youku has an investment conference coming up tomorrow where they will introduce TSO. Doubt they will officially announce the cast but maybe there will be some interesting news about the drama.

So today the CCTV 8 broadcast ended. It broke one again so we can claim with certainty the average CVB for the whole drama is going to be above the coveted 1 (current average 1.078 and actually every single episode broke CVB 1). That makes Xiao Zhan the only 90s actor with two dramas higher than 1 and there are some more stats, I will bring it over once the final CVB comes out.

Lol ffs, I am imagining ancient hockey in JOL now. Things like this get so absurd in cent that you just have to laugh or you would end up crying. The guy is a Xinli actor so they won't switch him out but maybe they won't push too hard. It's not fair to any of them who got their roles normally, in JOL or here, but that's cent for you.

For example this screenwriter and Xinli, before SBMS, pulled this exact same thing in another drama, on an even bigger name than XZ. That's why I don't think stuff like this will ever go away, it's just a dirty environment.

Just look at her drama ratings and you will understand. It's the same person who promoted My Journey to You here when SBMS started. Got to trash it now when SBMS is so successful and her faves flopped.

I don't know. YBY was supposed to have a larger, expanded role in the second and third season for sure. So even if they just do that, considering the guy isn't exactly the greatest actor, it's not going to be the best even without the dislike he is dragging. I think Xinli really cares about JOL though so hopefully it ends there and they don't expand it even further so we just have to hold our noses and sit through what would have been YBY anyway without too much damage 🤞

Yes that is true but the difference from before is that they just bought the copyright and are writing their own adaptation without any influence of the author. We shall see what comes out of that 🤞

They absolutely do. Not only that but because this is a TV drama, we can follow the ratings in real time and they drop every time they show up, which means CCTV viewers hate it too. This is the reason why it cannot be hidden what is causing the dissatisfaction.

The production team knows. There was an interview a few days back where the director said they know that this storyline isn't well received but then he washed it by saying it is very necessary for the backstory of the FL. Everyone scoffed at that of course. As you can imagine, the last episode was ill received again because of what they did. They don't care though, they got their goal of hockey trio exposure and XZ as the ML means they got their money back. This type of thing will continue happening.

Open ending. Lots of people see it as HE but same can be said in reverse. It's funny but from what I have read, more Chinese saw it as SE while here, more saw it as HE. Anyway, if you do watch it you would have to make up your own mind. If you have seen LBFAD, it's similar to that but not clear if real or dream.

I personally see it as a SE but I think it is worth it because the production values are so good and XZ knocked it out of the park. Ending episodes are movie worthy and so crazily good. But your call, if you do watch it, I hope you enjoy it, if not, I hope you find something else that you do.

No problem, stuff like this is really difficult to dig out without access to Chinese sites, like Douban or even Weibo. And yes, cnetz disliked this intensely which could be seen in TV ratings too - hockey shows up, CCTV viewers switch the channel.

Unfortunately, cent is very corrupt and priorities are often illogical because money talks. XZ is not the only one affected by this, many big names got shafted in the same way. Scripts are changed after signing, things are filmed separately and edited without the primary crew knowledge, oh the stories are really ugly. Actors really can't control this, especially those like XZ who don't have big money backing them. We can only hope that in time, he will at least have some more power in negotiating as he establishes himself even more but unfortunately as I said this has happened to even bigger names than him.

The hockey guy is new YBY in JOL2. He is a Xinli actor so as JOL2 is also a Xinli production and XZ played YBY in JOL they did this to push him by riding XZ coattails. People tune in to see XZ and in return they got flooded with this guy because he needs exposure for the future show. Of course they also get to use this once JOL2 starts broadcasting, for more leeching. That is why we got so much hockey.

Where we will cry until Tsui Hark decides he is done with the ultra secrecy and starts promo. Maybe we should just jump to TSO lmao because it's possible that will give us something first 😭🤣

Not done yet. The most important thing are the TV ratings and we have two more days to go. The current CVB average is 1.076 which is excellent (everyone dreams of breaking 1, that is the goal for big names). WDB was higher, 1.5+ but the hockey storyline really killed this (lots of antis who attack this drama should remember their faves have 0.1 on theirs). Still, even with all this trouble, that it is holding above that milestone of 1 is amazing. It's about to get a rerun on CCTV 1 from September 18th so that should tell you enough. Cross your fingers that it stays above one, just 2 more days.

Everyone is hugely complimentary of XZ's acting, SY as a character from modern drama is top, etc. That he was on CCTV again, and is about to repeat with the rerun really helps his visibility but the ratings also show they like him a lot because the second he shows up, they go up. So while it could have been better, people also have unrealistic expectations of him, usually because they have other, unpleasant agendas. This drama, despite all the problems, is actually doing great 🤞
