I think with this production being more high profile, it may be better to announce things beforehand lol because you're right, the Chinese internet has been a bit crazy town with all the rumored female lead possibilities. I wonder what the benefits are to keeping everything so secret?

It's not a slow-burn per se because the leads do develop feelings for each other earlier on, and they love only each other throughout the show, but there are obstacles to them being together. Really nicely developed romance as well as master-disciple story and story of growth and healing.

Yes, too many rumors all the time and too many unnecessary fan wars over such rumors. Expecting something and speculating are fun, but it's too much when people start attacking artists, other people, etc.
Although, for JJY, the Wan Hua Shi Jie drama rumor seems more likely?

There will probably be a lot of changes. I can see how the novel can lend itself to a more serious, political story with a side of romance, but who knows where the production will take it.
As far as Ju Jingyi, I don't think she is a good fit for the novel version of Guan Qingyue, but again, it is still a rumor, and we have no idea what the drama version of the FL will be.
Ten episodes in, it's a gripping, binge-worthy drama. Definitely more soap-opera than nuanced and far from a writing masterpiece, but it's definitely entertaining. This is not a lighthearted story for anyone looking for some fluffy romance. Some difficult themes (and scenes to watch), especially ep 10. Give me the rest now!
