It is carefully thought out to match the water elements in this drama. The 3 realms were created from water. Shuiyuntian (water cloud sky) Cangyan Sea Yunmeng Lake Then river of Memory Loss that connects the 3 Realms.
I like their delicate styling without being godly like other dramas w/ a heavenly realm.

Yes, the romance is sweet and innocent, but it took a while for them to be together. There is sort-of a love triangle, but the show doesn’t focus on it (there were cut scenes). Much of the focus is on the students and school administration struggles during the war. I think the first 3 episodes were heavy on the war. Ep 4, we start to quickly get to know the characters.

Yeah, the producers pretty much said that they only wanted Esther Yu and didn’t audition or consider anyone else. 😁 Esther is a master at cuteness. On the idol show, her adorable personality stood out among all the others. She is sunshine, kind, and supportive to others. So this kind of role is right up her alley.
I love how they selected actors that are similar to the characters in real life, instead of the big popular actors we keep seeing over and over again. The cast was perfect: the adorable Esther Yu and the young and rebellious, Dylan Wang, yet he has a heart of a teddy bear 🧸, and the handsome gentleman Zhang Linghe. The producers have mentioned many times the success about LBFAD is not about the actors being popular, but the passion some new comers put into the project and young crew involved. Esther and Dylan put their everything to this.

"When Xinxin [Esther Yu] appeared, I thought "wow" straight away - isn't this our Xiao Lanhua chosen by the heavens?". Reminiscing on the first time that he saw Esther Yu in Iqiyi's idol survival program Youth With You 2, Zhang Yucheng is still as excited as before. Regardless of personality, temperament or charm, the compatibility with Xiao Lanhua was quite high. They decided to go with Esther Yu very quickly and didn't try to find anyone else.
Compared to the straightforward and swift selection of the female lead, the team had a bit more discussion when choosing the male lead, Dongfang Qingcang. That was until they found Dylan Wang - "We saw his photos and some clips from his previous projects and found that he a particularly youthful feeling and sense of conviction."
Zhang Yucheng similarly used two statements to summarise their selection of Zhang Linghe as the actor for second male lead, Lord Changheng - it was just that [our] eyes lit up! So handsome! "He satisfied being both handsome and deep in emotion. Otherwise, how could this love triangle have been set up? (laughs)".
When Cang Lan Jue officially started filming, Dylan Wang's Miss the Dragon happened to be airing. Although there was some controversy, there were no worries at all for Zhang Yucheng and the team who had seen his performance on set. The rumor on Dylan sounds very fake. This is what happens when he became the #1 hot topic trending within hours with 100M + views, everyone trying to ride on the #1 trending news popularity. There is also this high-profile paparazzi started another rumor on "Mr Wang" that also became the hot search. Whether that rumor is a public relations tool to pacify the angry fans, or the paparazzi riding waves of the #1 news trending, I know his rumor is fake.
The female lead will likely change. They seem to be casting more famous actors for this series. I know what you mean, I feel bad for Jeremy. I like him, but unfortunately, I had to drop Chong Zi after a few episodes because of the FL. I've only watched her in this drama though and she was also at a disadvantage by having a terrible dubber. She should take on 2nd lead roles to improve her acting first. How is she suddenly getting these leading roles to big projects is what I want to know? She seems well connected.
Regarding that rumor of Dylan Wang and Esther Yu cast as the main leads was trending #1 a few days ago and their solo fans (the toxic ones) were against it. The fan wars among their solo fans are ruining it for the rest of us who want to see this pairing together again on screen. 😡🤬
