Hate that I waited to so long to watch this. I loved it. I agree with a lot of the comments that the plot was cliché, but the overwhelming majority of BL plots are cliché, so that didn’t take anything away from this series for me.
It’s really funny to think that this was made in 2017, though. You’d think we’d have gotten exponentially better series after three years (from Thailand), but...here we are with worse acting, production quality, and plots. lol And before anyone says it: yes, ITSAY is the outstanding exception.
Let's see, so far I've seen 3 episodes of 13. OK, that's not much. We're about a quarter of the way into our story.…
I don't really take this series that seriously, but your comment interested me. If I were to take it back a few steps and look at it, I'm here for all of this except Chon being sweet, pure or deserving of the title of 'hero'. I find him cute at best, annoying and self-serving at the worst. He's a young, openly gay man of decent means and moderate ambition, has grown up with the enormous benefit of having a loving and supporting best friend AND family, but is choosing to put himself in a stupid position for a guy he hasn't spoken to regularly since they were preteens. Please. If Chon were struggling with his own sexuality, was in the closet, or clearly suffering from another huge stressor in his life, I'd feel for him, but as far as I can see (as of episode 3, don't come for me in hindsight), he's a gay man actively pursuing a self-identifying 'straight' man in spite of said man's expressed disinterest in romantic relationships with men and homosexuality. Why? Because that's exactly what he wants to do...
Like I said, I don't take it this seriously. I'm just enjoying the ride, but when I take a serious look at it, it's really hard for me to feel for Chon.
Everything's more or less on a case-by-case basis and there are many factors like how popular the show gets or how well-connected the production company is. Blued is an enormous company in China and they're very well-connected to the government. Also, this series, unlike the rest of the "gay" media you probably know China for like Counterattack, Like Love, and Addicted or recent bromances like The Untamed, aren't geared toward fujoshis/wider audiences, this is geared particularly toward adult gay *men* in China who are a small and in many ways, "quieter" (if I can use that word) minority than crazy Xiao Zhan/Wang Yibo-shipping fujoshis who routinely cause a huge fuss online here. So, this one isn't likely to ruffle the government's feathers at all.
So, is LGBT content not allowed in China? No. It just depends on the medium through which being offered and who's actually consuming it.
This is the first bl I ever watched but for some reason I never finished it. Finally did that today. I think the…
I put off this one for a long time (three years to be exact) and I'm just getting to it. On episode 7 now and I agree with your points about the acting, chemistry and the friend group. I'm also not keen on teacher + Phu or doctor + Farm, but compared to a lot of BLs we've gotten in the past year or so...at least from Thailand, I think this one should still be pretty high up on the list. Why do you think it's overhyped?
Can I watch this without watching 'Kiss' and 'Kiss me again' ??
You don't need to watch Kiss at all really, but you should watch Kiss Me Again (just the Pete and Kao cuts though...it's available on YouTube), then watch their Our Skyy episode, then this one.
I dropped it at first because I just thought it was a little too low budget and the other actors weren't a match for Luo Yunxi, but I picked it back up anyway. It's nothing special and a little disorganized, but Luo Yunxi (his beauty and his acting skills) and the fact that each episode is only about 20-25 minutes make it an easy watch. It's also a pretty simple plot, unlike other Chinese costume dramas that get easily overladen and complicated with so many plots and characters.
Watch for Luo Yunxi. Don't expect much else from this.
Mark is so damn cheesy and I am not lactose intolerant. ^_^ I'm loving every bit of this. There are too many d*mn people in this show, though. lol Can someone post a chart or give me a list of who's who for reference. I try to pay attention, then I forget everything when Kim/Copter get back on the screen. lol
