Political intrigue at it's best
This has become one of my favorite political period drama. It has amazing writing, witty humour, suspense romance and the most stressful intrigue. It is a bing watching C-drama at its best. It was aired in 2018, but one of the best I think. It can easily be compared to my favorites like: Joy of Life, Love like the Galaxy, Lost You Forever. I did not know the main lead, as he doesn't seem to continue making C-dramas for the last few years. The cast are very well known.I truly enjoyed every episodes. Of course 70 episodes is a lot. The first 60 episodes are a mixed of humour, with political drama and intrigue. The last 10 episodes is a long dramatic conclusion.

Amazingly funny
This is an amazing series. Every episode is intriguing and captivating, with humour. I had some difficulty following the political plot but still manage to enjoy every episode. All the characters are well developed and have their own lovely personalities.I love the humour, it is mixed in with the political plot and romantic story. True that 40 episodes is long and the last 10 episodes were more drama than a mix of comedy and drama.

Drama with a sensitive topic
This is a dramatic story with sensitive topics like the feeling of abandonment for a girl that can make a girl search for love in the wrong places. The consequences and family turmoil in this 2007 Chinese society. I usually like comedies or some drama with a little comedy. This is a very good series if you can handle the drama as an audience. I left as I find the topic difficult to watch for my own entertainment. Everyone's tastes are different and this can be a good series for others.Was this review helpful to you?
Great political intrigue
My goal to watch C-dramas is for entertainment, learning Mandarin and to laugh. This is a great political drama, not so much any comedy mixed into it. I miss that. I found it interesting but at the same time after 16 episodes I just found I needed a change to another show, I pick it up at a later date.Was this review helpful to you?
Sweet family comedy
Such a sweet family comedy with good values and learning emotional maturity. I enjoy watching when all ages are the characters. Parents including their teenagers are featured in this series. Only 16 episodes and that is just perfect.It is relaxing and even emotional at times to see some relationships grow and mature.

So much action at every episode
This is a great political drama. There is lots of suspense and action at every episode. The storyline is amazing and counted as one of my best so far. Not boring, no concubine drama, not too romantically inclined. It serves as a truly bing watching series.I can count on only a few amazing Chinese period dramas and this storyline is different from the others so a great series.

So well done, crime story
This is a very well done criminal story. Somewhat too scary and gory for me, I kept muting the sound as the music is so well done to stress the audience. I am not one for stressful series but all the actors are super. It is certainly worth watching if you like crime series. This is only my choice as I prefer light series with not much stress.Was this review helpful to you?
Simply genius.
One of the best period series. Every episode is a gem. Genius comedy all around. It only takes a smile, or a facial expression to make us laugh out loud. Just simply extraordinary writing. Every episode is a must watch. Every character is special, and even all the male leads have their own strength and failures.Was this review helpful to you?
Lot's of fighting scenes
I have tried to watch this series twice, this 2nd time I got to episode 8. I know I have seen many episodes when I first started watching. I truly like the cast, the main lead and others. It just seems that there are too many fight scenes that make this series a little long for me. The story line is very good, political intrigue, spying, and of course some comedy from the actors.Was this review helpful to you?
Suspense to it's maximum
This is a great series. There is lots of violence for vengeance so expect it. It's a good story and the music makes it so much more stressful to watch. I do find there is a lot of violence and the theme is vengeance. I enjoyed seeing new actors for me in this series. Historical period drama
This is a historical war drama. I love period dramas but this one seems to take on so many characters, I have a difficult time following the series of events. I truly like all the actors and that is why I tried to watch it twice. I am giving up this time at episode 8 as I prefer some comedy compared to war dramas.Was this review helpful to you?
Family saga
This series in a multiple families saga. Yes, it's a drama, not a comedy. It's long with 70 episodes and we need to take into consideration that is was filmed back in 2018, so not as much professional acting as C-dramas in later years.I liked watching this as I like the main leads. I have seen the main leads in different C-dramas. This one is a slow burn, so take this into consideration as you watch it. I think this is the kind of series that you can take a break while watching another one and then come back to it.
I ended up ending watching it at episode 11 because the drama just became too disfunctional.

Great Period Drama
This series has romance, political intrigue, sweet humour, and great acting from the cast. I usually like a series that can keep me watching for the next episode. This is one of these. I have my favorites, Love Like the Galaxy, Joy of Life 1 & 2, Lost You Forever, 1 & 2, Sword Snow Stride, Secret of Three Kindoms, Nirvana in Fire, and this is another one.I do have to mention that after many episodes this series becomes a drama with inside women jealousy and outside male jealousy that rather dampens the fun of it.

Excellent political period drama
This is an excellent political period drama. The actors are well known and the complete cast together are fun to watch.Of course there is a love storyline as in most C-dramas. I found a few episodes in the middle of the series difficult to watch as there was "sadistic" violence against women and children. Even without these troubling episodes, this series would have still been excellent and probably one of the best period drama of 2026.

Who's the bad guy?
Wow! even though this series is a little dated, (2019), the story is a "mild" psychological thriller. Who's the real bad guy, we just don't know. Every episode is filled with intrigue. Yes, because it is a little older, the fashion sense is dated but that's just fine. The fun of this intrigue, makes it a binge watching series to find out who is the good guy and who is the bad guy.For sure 58 episodes is a lot for any series, but I still finished it.
