I kind of agree with your statements, I felt the same when I watched it for the first time. I just wanted to tell…
Yup you framed it right. The drama followed the novel. While reading the novel, I felt that they could have gone on their own ways without this fight. Like angst is already there later, if they wanted they could have avoided it. But yeah I absolutely agree to the point of being vulnerable with the person you are in love. They all are imperfect characters so I guess its okay. I also felt that the mature persona was that Yan Zheng created, at this time it was Xie Zheng who came out finally, who is impulsive, has a bad temper and is moody.
I feel like their seperation scene was a bit odd. It didn't suit the mature relationship they have built so far.…
I kind of agree with your statements, I felt the same when I watched it for the first time. I just wanted to tell you I read the novel, and it was done the same way, like its 90% similar, just the location was different. I changed my opinion later though, someone commented, that as they are in love, finally they are able to let go of their mature side, and show the childishness, immature sides. This was an illogical couple tiff. I have made peace with it now.
ok so my guess is that he's the former emperor who had to step down after Wei brought his puppet emperor onto…
It was hinted who he was. But explicitly not mentioned if I remember correctly. Yes there are many sides in the drama, different factions of people having different objectives to fulfill.

Nope. Prince Changxin is somehow related to the royal family, like it was not said in the novel or drama, but he is a warlord, he might be a cousin of the previous king. He has two sons, Sui Yuanhuai/Qi Min and Sui Yuanqing. The present king of the empire, is a son of the previous king.
About Qi Min, he has a secret identity, do you want the spoiler or do you want to wait for it to be shown?
