This has been on my watchlist, then i saw 8.8/10 and I was like oh wow, I’m in for a good time but alas it wasn’t so.
Ep1 was ok enough even though I wasn’t exactly seating at the edge of my seat in anticipation of the next episode but I’m like maybe it gets better since it has such high rating, half way through ep2 and I’m asking myself why I’m I here? 55mins into ep2 and the bank scene I was like yeah I’m out, I’m like is this for real, is this supposed to be a real bank?
I’m sorry to anyone who likes this but this is definitely not a quality series and it’s honestly bad, the background characters are just lifeless and screaming I am just an extra so loud, my eardrums hurt so much.
This very below average drama being rated so high is mind boggling, as someone who reads a fair amount of reviews here, I’m used to a lot of reviewers here enjoying mediocrity and some would rate highly anything their faves are in whether good or bad, I have long giving up hope of having the majority of the reviews and ratings here from people with working brain cells, most people who write reviews here have below average level intelligence, so when I continue seeing ratings like this, the hope that is dead gets buried even deeper.

I always tell my brother that aside from fantasy & sci-fi (like you rightly pointed out) dramas even though being fiction needs to be rooted in a bit of realism to be relatable to real everyday people.
Oh well.
I’m about to rewatch Story of MingLan and Story of Yanxi Palace (I always rewatch both back to back every time I rewatch, both are in my top10 fave CDramas, obviously 🙈) while waiting for some of the dramas I’m interested in to be completed as I’m a binge watcher

Cdrama MLs are always written as too perfect in all their ways, they are always the most intelligent, in-fact the most everything but this drama took it to a whole new level, he is a doctor (surgeon), a voice actor, a singer, a chef and to crown it all up he can draw (artist) and good at archery and he is not just decent or good at all the aforementioned, he’s in-fact super great at all of them.
I just wonder if there are no sounding boards of wisdom in the writers/directors room to tell them when they have gone too far with the “perfectness” of a character cos boy oh boy the ML was way too far in perfect land, his shit probably smelled like roses and lavender.
The whole I planned our engagement photoshoot without consulting you and asking for your opinions, did not read as romantic to me the way the series intended, it probably did for some people but to me it just didn’t. Well to each their own I guess
All that being said I did enjoy the drama in the overall sense of the word, Sometimes you just want to go away from the scheming, plotting and backstabbing dramas (which is my fave genre btw) and watch something easy and sweet where everyone loves and support each other and this drama gives you that in leaps and bounds lemme tell you, it really is so sweet that the threat of toothaches and stomachaches is very real.
It’s not something I would rewatch as I can only handle all that gooey “perfection” once.
I recommend for a one time watch if you like gooey sweetness

I’m at ep12 and so far I like this drama although I must admit I’m not a fan of the romantic music and slow motion that is happening with our leads so far especially when they are supposed to be brother/sister (yes he now knows that she’s not his sister but she doesn’t so it’s super weird and this romantic music and slow motion thingy happened even before he knew).
The other 2 things that is really grating on my nerves so bad.
Firstly, the FL talks in such a way that is not natural, its too measured, I haven’t heard anyone talk like that before in my life or even on tv, it comes across as acting (which is what she’s doing alright) but it shouldn’t present itself as such.
Then for the love of everything that is good, does she really need to call him third brother every 3 freaking seconds 😤😤😤. We get it already.

I agree with a lot of the reviewers, they dragged this for so long that by the time the relationship came around, I just did not care anymore.
It felt more like, she’s liking him back because he likes her and not because she wants him so much, really after everything he’s done and said, it’s that message that turned the light bulbs on for her, the reasoning just feels so weak and convenient IMO. Its more like yeah this is the episode the relationship is supposed to start in the drama according to the writers/directors.

The utter sickness and disgust I feel reading most of the comments here is frankly overwhelming.
Majority of the commenters here appear to be women and as a woman gleeing and anticipating a relationship between an abuser and the abused because they are so adorable and are going to have so many cute moments is disgusting and you all need to go and reflect on yourselves.
Equating abuse and torment to red flag buzz word is such a joke.
So many beautiful women are abused in today’s world and they cover up their scars with makeup because how do you say you are being abused when you post pictures on social media and the comments will be like “OMG they are so cute, “slay” “God when” “couple goals” etc just like what is happening in this comment section, prime example is that of Diddy and Cassie (most people should know about this), so many paparazzi pictures of them over the years but who could have imagined that he was beating her blue and black on several occasions.
Over the past few weeks we have read all over social media the level of abuse and assaults a lot of women and young girls are going through even from the men in their families but yeah let us glee and anticipate a relationship preceded with abuse, torture and almost murder because they are so cute.
Anyone who is in support of a relationship between an abuser and the abused is sick, there is no if’s and buts about it

The justification is crazy. Most of you are conveniently ignoring the main point, no one is saying he shouldn’t have his revenge or even torture or try to kill the FL for foiling his plans, the main bone of contention is that the FL or anyone in their right mind for that matter will fall in Love with their abuser for whatever reasons as I’m sure this drama will try and spin to justify their upcoming relationship is absurd and unacceptable.
I have watched many enemies to lovers dramas & I have even accepted some of them but nothing will ever make me accept a relationship that had torture and attempted murder preceding it but you all go off with the abuse and violence neglect.

The development of the ML character is hardly the point of the OP.
If in later episodes he stops torturing the FL & trying to kill her + starts caring about the lives of his people, I guess in your opinion that’s character development, I on the other hand strongly disagree.
There is no coming back from someone torturing & trying to kill anyone several times, no matter what spin CDramas try to use and persuade the viewers, CDramaland will want people to accept that people especially their female characters will fall in love with their abuser and that’s somehow ok because he had trauma & now he’s changed, oh let’s not forget the most important one because he now loves her.
CDramas keep doing this because they know their viewers will always excuse and defend MLs to the ends of the earth.

I already made myself crystal clear that I won’t be exchanging words with anyone in regards to this drama & I remain steadfast in that assertion.

This is drama was all over the place, scenes jumping from one timeline to the other, from past to present to future and whatever else was going on but the directors/writers might have successfully (based on the high reviews) pulled the wool over most people eyes with the intense sexual scenes and chemistry alongside the dark and mysterious cinematography vibes, which they know all too well that BL lovers will eat, lick the plates and leave no crumbs while shouting through the rooftops with showers of praises of it being the best thing they’ve ever had, but I vehemently refuse to be suckered in like a starved child, because as an adult, I just don’t eat whatever is giving to me, when i eat, I prefer it to be of high quality/value.
Yeah I wouldn’t be rewatching this mess, intense sexy NC or not.

I disagree with this because chemistry between fictional characters played by actors in a TV series is not subjective. The actors/characters either have chemistry or they don’t.

You are right in that it’s her pick but it’s a pick that didn’t translate well due to the lack of chemistry.
If she was asexual that lack of physical chemistry not being important would have sufficed but that wasn’t her character so it doesn’t fly with me but anyways that’s my opinion. I guess we can agree to disagree

Well 9/10 because I liked the music, 9/10 because like I mentioned the acting was good overall, I doubt I will ever rewatch it as once was ok for me hence the 5.5/10.
I didn’t like the 2nd/3rd couple story arc hence the 8/10 overall so due to that I wasn’t willing to give it anything more than that but the overall plot was ok for me so 8.5/10. For you it might sound contradictory but this is my opinion and rating, you are free to rate yours however you choose.
