On Here to Heart Nov 29, 2023
So I finished Here to Heart yesterday. This drama has been in my watchlist for some time already, but I finally gave it a go because I just need more of Zhang Han and Janine Chang after The Four. It's good overall, though there were really frustrating moments, some parts dragged on more than they should, and there were some annoying characters, but I expected these after reading some reviews (I guess I have prepared myself). What really shines for me are the cast, especially Zhang Han and Janine Chang, who brought their characters to life, not to mention they have great chemistry! They're very good in the emotional/crying scenes. My other fave characters are Zhu Lin Lu, Wen Rou and Gao Fang. There are many heart-touching moments - between lovers, sisters, parent-child, and friends. So if you like melodrama and slow burn, 2nd chance romance, with business maneuverings as backdrop, then go watch this.

Title The Four
I decided to watch this since I was looking for a wuxia or historical drama after finishing a modern one, not to mention the leads are a treat to watch. I was not disappointed!
What I like:
1) Zhang Han and Janine Chang have amazing chemistry! I was eagerly looking forward to their scenes together. My favorite characters are Leng Xue (Zhang Han), Chu Li Mo (Janine Chang) and Zhui Ming (William Chan)! Leng Xue appears cold and uncaring but is actually a man who cares deeply for the people dear to him. Chu Li Mo is pretty and smart but can be naive at times. Zhui Ming is the life of the party, the happy go-lucky type, but who is also very devoted to his lady love. Of course, the Four wouldn't be complete without Wu Qing (Yang Yang) and Tie Shou (Mao Zi Jun), and both have their own stories.
2) Mickey He is very convincing as An Shi Geng, a man who becomes mentally unstable and cold-blooded as his thirst for revenge and power consumed him.
3) The strong bond of the four infamous deputies, as they solve cases and fight their enemies together. Good that there are female deputies too.
4) Most of the fight scenes were well executed, though the special effects during the fight scenes in the beginning were a bit over the top.
5) Generally good costume design - I like Janine Chang's look!
6) The ending was nicely wrapped up, though I would have liked more sweet scenes between our main couple.

Other comments:
1) Many supporting female characters were quite irritating, such as most of the maids and the 2 sidekicks of Ji Yao Hua. Princess Zi Luo and Ling Yi Yi were annoying in many instances, but I’m glad their characters grew up and were able to eventually redeem themselves.
2) I think there were a bit too many scenes of An Shi Geng reminiscing over his lady love, although I understand it’s meant to show his devotion to her.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series, so I would gladly recommend it!

How is it 48 episodes? The ones on Viki is 44 episodes only.
Late reply, but thought of sharing anyway: There is a 48 episode version (the TV version that is also available online) and a 44 episode version (online/streaming). I watched the 48 episode version, but I think both versions are the same. The difference is probably in the episode length.

This is an entertaining drama with romance, comedy and heart-touching moments. The story and chemistry between Zhang Han and Zhao Li Ying get better (and better) as the story moves along, there is good character development, and it has enough romantic/swoon-worthy scenes to make you root for the main couple. There were some characters that caused conflicts for the main couple, but they're not over-the-top, and there were no drawn-out misunderstandings. There were a few plot lines that didn't seem realistic or seemed exaggerated, but the overall flow and storyline were well-executed. The ending is nicely wrapped up for everyone, and my only complaint is the last scene, which seemed to have been filmed at the same time as an earlier scene in the drama, thus taking some points away from the overall impact. As a whole, this is an enjoyable watch for me.

I started this series because of Sandra Ma, but I ended up liking William Chan as well. The story is focused on action, romance, family and friendships but also has some humor thrown in. William Chan (as Liu Zi Guang) and Sandra Ma (as Hu Rong) have a good grasp of their characters and were able to bring them to life. They also have great chemistry! Love their banter and how their characters and relationship developed. The supporting cast also gave good performances. The storyline is interesting, with a few surprises up until towards the end of the drama. The action scenes were well-executed, and I must say, William Chan is very good in the fight scenes! The opening theme is interesting – Instead of someone singing, there’s background music and some key dialogue from the characters inserted into it.

There were a few scenes that I find unrealistic, but I know these add dramatic flair, so I'm willing to overlook them and not take them too seriously. Then there was a part towards the end that is somewhat unbelievable, bordering on negligence of protocol. It felt forced. Also, it would be good to have more info on Ah Se. He appeared suddenly and followed Liu Zi Guang around as his apprentice, seeming to live in his own wuxia world.

Overall, I would gladly recommend this series, especially if you like police action with romance.

Just finished this drama, and I find it entertaining and a relaxing watch, despite some plot twists and political intrigues. Generally good acting by the cast, but for me, Wang Li Kun's acting as Princess Rou Jia really stand out. The main leads aside, I like the characters of Guo Ju Li, Zhi Muo and Liu Chen.

Finished this drama a month ago. I like it, it's short but the pacing is just right, not too fast or dragging. Good acting by the main characters as well. It's not perfect, but I enjoyed it. I gave it a rating of 8.

Finished "Provoke" the other day, and now I'm watching this one, another short web drama. So far, the story's intriguing and the main couple have good chemistry (XHS and SQ). Good acting also, especially the 2 FLs.

On Who Rules the World Sep 10, 2023
I finished this drama a few weeks ago. It has a good mix of political intrigue, wuxia and romance.
Things I like that kept me engaged throughout the show:
• Political intrigue, strategizing, revelation of each mystery, and how the leads outsmarted their enemies.
• Both ML and FL are smart and strategic, very skilled in martial arts, and have connections in both jiang hu (pugilistic world) and chao ting (government/political world).
• Yang Yang’s portrayal of Hei Feng Xi/Feng Lan Xi – overall, a very good performance by YY. The drama gives a lot of focus to HFX/FLX’s character development, since many of the political intrigue and action happened in his domain.
• Zhao Lu Si as Bai Feng Xi/Feng Xi Yun – ZLS also did well; however, I felt that YY had more room to show his acting ability. But thankfully, the drama eventually gave focus to her side of the story, and she really shined in the latter part of the drama.
• There is mutual trust and respect between the ML and FL, and I also like how they supported each other and faced challenges as a couple.
• Well-choreographed fight scenes, grand battle scenes, and great costume design.
• OST that fit the drama, especially the opening theme, “Unparalleled”, sung Liu Yu Ning.

Other comments:
• Chemistry between the leads – their romance is sweet and slow-burn, and I like their banter and humor, but it didn’t affect me in the same way (i.e., having that swoon-worthy feeling) as the other dramas where YY and ZLS were paired with other actors, e.g., LLTG, Love O2O, FOMH, etc.
• The last few episodes felt a bit rushed, but they still manage to wrap things up.
• The ending is more or less what I expected, so I wasn’t caught off-guard too much, except for a few unexpected things.

Overall, I really enjoyed this drama, so I highly recommend it, especially if you like political/court intrigue, wuxia and romance.

I finished watching GOSF today. This is an impressive and very well-made military drama. I was initially hesitant to watch it because I thought 45 episodes was a bit long for this genre. But I'm glad I dived into it. Now that I've reached the end, I'm actually hoping there would be more episodes to develop the relationships of the main characters, plus more stories about the next stage in their military careers (I heard that this was supposed to have 54 or 58 episodes). I'm very impressed with Yang Yang's acting here, and the rest of the cast also gave good performances. Kudos to the entire cast and crew for a job well done!

I had a double take. I didn't know Ekin Cheng was doing dramas. LOL
He started out doing TV dramas in HK 😊. Among his dramas, one of my favorites is Golden Snake Sword. I think I watched it twice, or more.

So I am looking for a good Chinese drama. I am pointing some key points which I would prefer. But even if they…
Hi! Some suggestions:
1) Who Rules the World - It has a good mix of wuxia, political intrigue and romance.
2) New Life Begins is also good, though it's more of a slice-of-life with political intrigue type of drama, set in a fictional period in history.
3) Love Like the Galaxy - Historical drama with political intrigue, mysteries to be solved, action, and romance (great chemistry between the leads).
4) Oh My General - Historical drama with romance, action, political/court intrigue and comedy, starring Sandra Ma as the female general Ye Zhao and Peter Sheng as the more feminine Duke of Nanping.
5) If you're open to older dramas, then one good series I would suggest is Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre 2000 (HK version), an adaptation of one of Jin Yong's novels (one of many). Since it was released more than 20 yrs ago, then the effects & CGI might not be that appealing if watched right now. Though I remember liking this drama when I watched it years ago.

That's it for now :)

I just finished episode 25, and it's one of the best episodes so far! I cried watching Bai Long's story (some other episodes have cry-worthy scenes too). Also, they chose the right actors to play the younger/teenage Yan Po Yue and Xiao Yun Jie; they look like Yang Yang and Meng Ah Sai (especially the one who played the younger YPY). Kudos to the entire team of this wonderful drama!
