Thank you for your review on this drama! I have never seen a role played by Johnny Huang that I did not like. And Zhang Jing Yi also has a very likable presence. I like the roles she’s undertaken as she always seems to play strong, capable women who isn’t afraid to love or stand up for her principles without turning into harpy, an overly domineering cranky woman or into a pampered princess who expects her man to emasculate himself just to please her.

I agree also that this was every good drama - even the ending. I think people rely too much on the princess dream of romance rather than the harsh reality that relationships take hard work, compromise and commitment - even in disappointment or difficulty. So when the ending doesn’t fit their expectation they grouse and whine and give it a bad rating.

His wife was poisoned by another woman, and the girl he married replaced her position as his wife. She was not his concubine.

Abandonned or abused puppy is a good analogy for both of them. Fear makes them bite and snarl and protect themselves because they have no trust in people. They both had to relearn how to get along without constant suspicion. Trauma dies that to people - which they both experienced, especially with their work and how they were trained. Imagine having to get close to people in order to end their existence. You’d probably live in anxiety all the time and protect yourself from everyone. His heart is more open because of the people he worked with but still guarded against her because of her profession and pushing him to father a child for her initially, while she was obeying the last wishes of the one person she trusted and had no idea what it meant to be a loving person. It was an interesting dynamic as it unfolded.

This very rarely happens. What can be expressed with words in a novel is very hard to translate into moving images. There are constraints with people, censorship and time it would take to turn the exact representation of the novel into film. A drama could end up being over 60 or so episodes in some cases. It’s the same with movies. The books are adapted to film. Even Hollywood with all its experience in movie and television leave things out and , inject other things in order to make it work on film.

That is why I asked. It’s fine if they watched it and don’t like it. But the people who do this are just childish. If they don’t like an actor for legitimate reasons but only want to ruin the rating for everyone who worked hard to produce a drama, then they are the just foolish.

According to your list you haven’t even watched one episode, so I am curious how you came to this conclusion?

He already had a phd when she started college. Her birthday cake when she celebrated her first at college said 19. And there was the scene where she accidentally met his parents and the mother counted out the year difference of being about 8 years if I remember correctly. The age gap is consistent with his education level and the scene with his parents being about 8 years.

I am really glad it helped you look at the drama with a bigger perspective. We have become so desensitized to mental illness because people too easily throw those whom they perceive as toxic in the rubbish pile and ignore them, or make fun of them or say hurtful things to them.

Everyone deserves a chance to be cared for. But, learning to understand the difference between a real need for love and someone intent on scamming people through manipulation takes discernment and observation. It’s not based off one experience. If we gave everyone the chances that we hope others might give us, the world just might be a little better because if those opportunities.
