CLIFFHANGER

The only ending more abhorrent than a drive-by bow ending (they wrap entire shows up in under 2 minutes) is plot twist and cliffhanger twists with no next season in sight. When you watch a show you are investing time into it. Yes, most people watch entertainment to relax but it is still an investment and finding out you wasted it is extremely frustrating. This was a GOOD show. The writing, editing, and acting was done very well. but that last minute... Also, I was unclear if she had a miscarriage or maybe its the caffeine withdrawal combined with too much exercise. idk.

ouch

It was painful watching Guo Yuxin carry the whole show on her own. I mean yes the ML was well built but that was it. His whole emotional range was, "I'm about to blow up" and that's it.
That being said the writing was at least not... yeah, no nothing creative or different here. Past trauma is not a reason to emotionally or physically abuse someone. Also, he had YEARS where he could have been honest with her. He _chose_ not to and therefore left the door open for a third party to mess with their marriage. She deserved better. Hell, that poor secretary deserved better. I think the best parts the ML had was when the FL thought he was gay and together with his secretary. It probably would have been a relief and less therapy bills for the both of them.

It dragged on endlessly

I feel like this drama had potential. However, honestly, I felt myself bored during the drama. It was as if they were building up to something and then nada. Like blowing up a balloon only to see it stay flat because there is a hole at the other end. whether the hole was because of bad directing, editing, or screenwriting it tanked what could have been a lovely romance about children bound to love each other despite a variety of obstacles and losses in the way.

Ummm... what age was her brain at?

No. No. And no. Who has a mature adult relationship with someone who has the mind of a child? I dont care who you are. It's a form of pedophilia. I feel as if the other two lives were just the writers trying to make up for that mistake or maybe I'm still stuck on that point.
The two leads acted very well and had great chemistry. I believe they had another period drama together this year.

Fluffy and sweet the two main leads pulled off the best version of "puppy love" I have seen in a chinese vertical drama. The story centers around a boy who falls in love with a girl during high school. Despite him being an elite and in an entirely different social and economic class he blows up a lab and gets kicked out of school so he can transfer to her school. He spends their junior year of high school being desk mates working up the courage to ask her out. Only to leave a letter in a book that she never saw. three years later he's about to list a company and she's still in university. He starts to actively pursue her while also discreetly helping her. honestly it's refreshing charming and sweet. (and also apparently 1 of 8 adaptations of a novel. )

Funny and Lighthearted

Honestly, the summary doesn’t do it justice. It's funny, light-hearted, and a great watch after a long day when your boss won't leave you alone.
The two have great chemistry and I enjoyed watching people give back to the community even if it's fake for a storyline. I feel as if giving is restricted to the holiday season in the US and it shouldn't be (if you can afford it.)
Also, I've never seen a doctor with that much free time. But it's also impossible to find a doctor in a hospital so there is that....

Too Many Plot Problems to Score Higher

Idk what universe patients are allowed to be halfway into the OR and if that isn't enough how is someone with an ethical question allowed to practice on that patient? Does China not have HIPPA? Also, how does a board certified Obgyn end up as a physical therapist? I have so many plot-related questions. But I might run out of space, so I'm choosing to move on. I can honestly say that I never thought of this pairing and was pleasantly surprised by the electricity of it.

Finally Something New!

I'm currently sitting at my screen smiling like an idiot. Yes, this was "technically" a revenge drama but it was more than that. It was a story about a girl who had her first (and purest) love betrayed and broken, only to be followed by the death of her mother whom she had left on bad terms because of that first love. I like that they story doesnt dwell on it but focus on her healing journey, from pioneering a life saving cardiac device to healing and opening her heart again. I'm glad the grandmother didnt put up with her son's shenanigans and chose to wait for her more ethical grandson to come into his own. The FL spent a decade maintaining and building their company and the father-son duo did not hesitate to kill her mother.
To the FL and 2FL: ladies you dodged a nuclear warhead.
To Cdrama Writers: this was great. don't. touch. it. we dont need 20 remakes of the same thing. Find new material. If you really can't find anything else on the entire internet *I* will write something for you. I should comment that I generally write children's books and fanfiction but I would make an exception.

but why is it called Stealing pet?

The ML and FL were very well casted and played their individual roles well. The music consisted of the same 3 songs chinese short dramas play during their videos. I'm imagining it's a licensing issue. The costume director did a good job and I liked the outfits.
My issue with the show mostly stems from the writing and lack of continuity on the directors part. The FLs personality did a 180 in the last ten minutes of the show. No one, especially someone who suffered that much mental abuse and torture can change overnight. Another thing I was confused about was whether or not they were able to save the baby. Likely a language barrier/skewed viewing issue but confused all the same.
The stepbrother has zero character written other than being a step for the FL to springboard off of. The father was horrid and deserved a far worse ending than he got.

Wish I Could Erase the Plot

Title: The Only Soul I Couldn't Erase
Genre/Year: Romance drama
ML: He Jian Qi
FL:
2ML: Wang Yilei
Rating: 6

⚠️ Review:
I never understand why people force others into marriages they dont want to be in. Is it a dominant/control problem? Possibly. How else would she last 7 years of being treated this way? I dont agree with the 2ML giving her information away at the end. She worked so hard to get away from him and he just sent her back without even asking her (assuming he didn't.)
I thinknthe most powerful scene here is when he finally sees the bathroom He Jian Qi has a way of breaking your heart through the screen that is incomparable to most acting professionals.
I would love to have ranked this higher but the plot had too many holes and honestly wasnt that interesting. Also, whoever dressed the 2FL needs a job change asap.ASAP.

Seriously girl RUN forward and dont look back

Best thing about this drama were the weaponized moms. I was worried the FLs mom was going to be like all the other moms who dont value their daughters and only sons, but that slap was EPIC (and well deserved.)
The 2ML/OG husband doesnt usually play the bad guy so it was an interesting change. The ML played a little dorky in the beginning which is not his usual vibe and was cute to see! I still dont get the whole 2MLs character. I feel like he wasnt really give one except to be a foil for the ML and annoy the FL. Like how did he think he was going to stay married if he accused his wife in court of possession of a narcotic. Also, did he not think to try and find her innocence? Seriously, he claimed to love her and then a) cheated on her b)didnt TRY to defend her in court c) actually was on the opposing council in court d) just a general piece of human garbage. Who allows their mother to speak to their significant other like that??!! Okay rant over, im eating ice cream and going to bed.

Great cast, directing, and storyline

Did not expect such a complex plot based on the summary. However, the actual plot was well done and I appreciated how despite all the "proof" her coworkers stood up for her. It was nice having a boy's mother portrayed as wicked or stuck up. Honestly, I was half expecting the mom to offer money to the FL not to leave her son. LMAO.
The ML went through so many torturous years all because of a promise to a dying woman. As a mom, I get it. As a human with morals what she did was ethically wrong. She knew he was a kind and upright person and that her son was not and used it to bind them together and keep her company afloat. I wish I could feel bad for the son/ex-boyfriend but he doesn't have enough functioning brain cells for that.
Also, it could be the version and platform I watched skipped it out but there was no follow up on the dad after he grabbed the ex-boyfriends hand to restrain him.
Regardless, I really enjoyed this drama. Definitely going on my rewatch list!

Parent's Love

⚠️ Review:
He's an idiot. Apparently this idiocy was hereditary and he got it from his dad. That being said what the dad did to the mother and the ML was pretty terrible. The mom of the ML ruined her whole life for her son and a man that love money and a rich wife more than her. He spoiled his daughter to the point of her not understanding the value of human life. Whereas this FL is the exact opposite. Her parents gave her a structured and ethical upbringing and led by example. The differences in their upbringing is showcased by house they reacted to hitting "bumps in the road" during their college admissions. The ML had a meltdown, his sister paid her way out, and the FL worked harder and smarter.
Overall, I think the real theme of this drama was that the love of parents can transcend time and space.

Good Job

⚠️ Review:
I've seen differing opinions about this role and the FL but I think she did a very good job. The "falling into a book" is an overused trope within Chinese media, however they did a good job here. I am not a fan of the roles that the ML usually takes on and his acting style (not my personal preference - nothing personal with the actual actor) but he did a very good job here and definitely stepped out of his comfort zone/roles he is usually plays and it paid off.
There is a 2026 remake of this with different leads and it is also good although hard to find.

Relaxing Watch

This was a relaxing watch with a side of eye candy. I'm a huge fan of everything Wen GeGe and this was no different. They had an almost visceral chemistry that transcended language, continents, and screens. I really hope to see these two work together again!
One of my favorite parts of this show was the beautiful scenic "grasslands." Although, Im not sure what Grasslands are, Im assuming its like the Outback or Central/South US. I think Ma Xiaoyu might have a remake of this exact story but I could be wrong. Either way, good job all around!
