I just found out the story behind this. Dayu had a dream of becoming a singer and releasing an album, so Qing had Dayu pick out a song and bought the rights for it. They changed some of the lyrics together to make it more like their own story during that summer. The song was a duet called "Jin Xia," or "This Summer" and this short film was for its MV.

I agree. I thought I would like it when I first watched it because I thought it would be a nice story about a trans woman. It's obvious that the writers of the show don't understand what it means to be transgender. They make it all seem so superficial.

Love is More Than A Word and Till Death Tear Us Apart are both good. There isn't much physicality in the relationhip but you can see how much they care for each other through their expressions and words. If you haven't seen them yet and want to watch them, make sure you don't accidentally watch the cut version. The uncut version can be a bit hard to find but I have a link to a good quality version if you want it.

There are many BL dramas like that but also many that aren't. Though, you obviously know that since you only said that that was the case with "most" storylines. Anyways, have you watched Sotus? It's one of my favourites and doesn't follow the plot you described. If you've seen that already, I have other shows I can recommend.
