Person Lee Na Young
She's so beautiful, although I'm a woman I could watch her for hours. Very... classy. :)

OMG *facepalm* how can people rate this drama when this wasn't even aired yet? I'm mean biased on what are you…
I wish there were a way to only rate a drama after, say, at least half of it has been watched. These are the dramas which often make it to the top 10 just because a group of fans (not for nothing the word fans comes from fanatics) decided in advance that a pretty face makes the actor and a pretty/known title the drama.

Wow, now I don't know if I should thank you and blush or if I should better laugh with you and always beware of the latent sarcasm... ;););)

LOL, I don't know if you changed it: I watched that movie an eternity ago and have no plan to rewatch it, so I'll just let it sit there with the vague memory of a funny enough romcom. This does not change my opinion of your review, which was hilarious. I have a penchant for well written, sarcastic reviews, regardless of what I think about the show they rave or rant about.
So, please keep the fun alive! LOL

I know you do, and I obviously don't like cruel men either. But it all depends on the woman: if she has the intelligence and the strength to stand up to such a man, then their battles are even and I accept them, I even enjoy them. As a classic example, Joo Won is an obnoxious bastard, but Ra Im has the guts to fight back, which at the end of the day makes them even. And she's not someone who stays glued to him in the hope he will change: she rejects him, several times. She even asks his mother to guard him 24/7, LOL!!
But you know this story as well as I do. :)
I think cruel men are not fashionable anymore in asian dramas - high time too! - the last things I've watched all tend to depict stronger women and reasonable men - with the exception of the Hong sisters who insist in their image of a silly woman, constantly surprised by life. That's why I can't stand their scripts.

Here's my theory: the painting was surely an expensive piece of art - monetary value being the criteria by which many buy art, regardless of what they feel for it - and she used it as a... declaration of her power. Something like "see how generous I am. It's grim and you must like it because I gave it to you, but always remember who's in control here. I'm giving you an expensive token, show me deference". If you remember, she first gave a painting to Na Ri (perhaps the same? we will never know). And if Na Ri hadn't finally grow the balls to say goodbye to her spiteful "mother", she would have lived a life of servitude, of which, as I see it, that painting is a symbol.
Perhaps it's even a masterpiece by some Flemish maestro, who knows, but I would use it to scare away undesired visitors. LOL ;)

Thank you! :D It's always rewarding to be complimented for a review. I loved yours too, and I agree wholeheartedly about the clothes and shoes! I don't know if the actors have a say in their drama wardrobe; i'm almost inclined to think they do, since Kim Sun A was wonderfully dressed in Scent of a Woman too.
She's got class, that's for sure. :)
We may write to her and ask if she lends us some shoes? LOL ;)

You know, another thing I loved about this show is that the b*tchy business ahjumma - as you rightly say, an ominous and invariably evil character in k-dramas - has power out of marriage (or inheritance, I didn't really get who created the company). She doesn't have a creative talent, or a particularly good taste, or even the basic requirement for a good business-(wo)man, which is recognizing people with true talent and do everything not to lose them.
She was just exercising her power over others and deriving satisfaction from belittling the daughter of another woman.
In a drama which is intensely feminine and gives us smart females, the contrast is striking: talent vs. undeserved power. And talent wins: hurrah!
;)

If it can be of any consolation for you - it is for me anyway - I too am much better at ranting than raving. My dislike for a drama draws out that hint of sarcasm which would never be effective at explaining why I loved something. Love is somehow... sobering. And while it's easy to pinpoint that scene, or ridiculous line, or bad acting chop which makes one dislike a drama, it's at time almost impossible to say why we feel a thrill, or a heart-jolt or a shiver of anticipation.

And I loved the ending too. I was actually hoping they wouldn't make it end the traditional way. I'm happy they did not marry - not because I don't want them to, but because I didn't want this drama to take the conventional route.

But this drama left me with a little nightmare souvenir too: that portrait of a scary matron! HAHAHAHAHAHA

It was a truly lovely drama on every aspect. It made me laugh till the end, without EVER becoming sugary, or slapstick funny. I usually expect this delicacy from Japanese, more than Korean. Therefore, I'm very happy to be proven wrong.
I can easily imagine how your fingers were itching, LOL! :D

Omni, I loved your review of I do, I do. No surprise there. :D
I have written one too, I hope it won't sound redundant now. We say different things, even though the heart of it is more or less the same.
I'm particularly happy of your final lines: I too hope dramas like these can set an example, and that we can get more and more smart stuff in the future. :)

Goodmorning lovely lady!
Have you been on a holiday, or simply on a drama break? I haven't seen you in a while. :) You're doing fine, I hope! :D
I'm very well, enjoying the Summer, watching less drama and eating a lot of icecream, LOL. ;)

I'm equally annoyed. The first that come to my mind are the one in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, My Girl, again YaB, Personal Taste... all dramas I did not enjoy mostly thanks to the females, either leads or secondary. It irks me that not only the leads are portrayed as ignorant, but the secondary have to be evil, scheming and wasting their time away being mean.
I don't know women like those, nor do I wish to meet any. I'd rather watch a realistic portrayal of women friends, because despite what men like to think, women know friendship among them very well.
And while I can accept the occasional evil character, I can't stand to find her in every other drama; it truly gives the wrong message: as if hot, rich guys can only love stupid, naive girls and hot, career girls can only be mean.
Grrr.

Then I'll send you the link in the next days, no problem at all. :D
Please, Jeanie, don't expect a "clever" drama, or a particularly well acted thing. But it's young, and refreshing, and cute. I dare say, perfect for the Summer. ;)

Absolutely. Read my bio for references, LOL.
It seems lately k-drama are improving a lot regarding women leads. That's why I'm duble annoyed when some writer still come up with the trite, and now old, cliche' of the dumb klutz.

I think I've just read the best written review ever: your Kim Sam Soon's one.
I confess (please be kind with me), I did not enjoy the drama, despite it's being objectively a gem, for script, direction, wonderful actors, humour.
However, your review almost made me want to watch it again. I won't, not right now, because I remember it well and I remember the... pain it caused me, but I needed to compliment you because your review is really wonderful.
I'm not a flatterer, so please take it as an impulsive, honest comment. :)

hmmm, not really. There is a second female, and there is a second male, but they are both tolerable, even likable. The second male is not the usual doormat all good and sweet who never gets the girl, and the second female... is doing it all wrong, but there is something about her I actually like. She's not super evil, just trying to survive.
This drama is not cliche-free, it just treats the cliche in quite a surprising way, without exaggerated angst or people cying all over the place. Even the humour is different, dropped here and there, not slapstick.
But I truly believe you should watch and decide for yourself. After watching many dramas, we all become picky, but there are things we like or dislike which are really hard to explain rationally. To me, the fact alone that the female lead is a smart woman is enough to overlook all the rest. :)
