No the emperors were all Liu. The empresses were Gao and Qi. Zhousheng Chen gave up his family name as Liu when he left the palace. This was all explained in the show. As for the second thing you explained, it's only true for the regents. The court all loved zsc. They all died with him!

I keep thinking about it and I have to say, I don't understand why Zhou Sheng Chen was such a taboo option for ruling? He is competent, selfless, honorable, the actual brother of the late emperor. He's protected the country for almost two decades...he was clearly the superior choice for the next emperor. Yet everyone is tripping over themselves to choose 5yo distant cousins as emperor and just...why?! It's not like a 5yo can do sh!t.

I will definitely watch this anyway. I'm considering reading the book before continuing though. Reading Eastern Palace while watching the show really worked for me so I'm thinking of doing the same for this one as well.

I really was hoping you'd like this one. I'm on episode two and it feels like the modern setting isn't really doing it for me, either.

I meant the sexual assault case shown between episode 4 and 5. The fact that they forced that one guy into sexual situations against his will is a form of rape. It was awkward to say " the guy who assaults the soldier by making him do this and that" so I just used the word rapist.

I'm fuming. I really hope that rapist guy from episode 5 gets what he deserves but given the show's attempt to go for realism, probably not. Ugh!

I finally finished watching this and I have to agree, the political subplots were lacking for me and it kind of left me wanting. The best part of the show is for sure the soft romance and the leads' acting.

There's a good amount of reference. Also oao is a very fun show to watch. Only the last three-ish episodes are a little sad.

That one is a better show, if you ask me.

Wow! The first episode was amazing!
Jung Hae In is the best.

She was in love with zhousheng chen but the Gao family sent her to the palace to become a concubine. She was not favored and after the emperor died, the empress made her become a nun. She was still in love with zhousheng chen the whole time.

I was told by someone I consider a reliable source, that we should stop waiting for these shows in this year and possibly the following year after that., even before the latest news.
It seems that the heavy bans are connected to mainland policies that surpass general prejudice and whatnot.
It seems that this sort of crackdown is a cyclical thing and we should wait it out. My personal suggestion is to stop waiting for now. I have.
