Hello there!

I'm a newbie drama fan from India. Started watching dramas in 2021 during covid times and got more and more into them as time progressed.

Initially I mistook dramas for being very over-the-top and not realistic but then found out that it was a mis-conception on my part formed due to pre-concieved notions from anime live adaptations. Once I discovered Rom-Com and Comedy dramas, I was hooked.

I started with korean dramas then transitioned into watching Japanese ones, now I like watching them both! I also wanted to get more into Japanese dramas because I'm currently in the process of trying to learn the language. So I prefer watching more Slice-of-Life oriented dramas that have dialogues related to daily life.

My quick-picks for favourites would be: (I've tried to keep the descriptions as spoiler-free as possible but if you're like me and prefer going into anything completely blind, I'd recommend skipping the descriptions)

1. Hana Yori Dango (Japanese): My introduction to the world of Japanese Dramas, the cindrella story with an amazing cast, a very memorable OST and a story so iconic that it's had multiple adaptations across various countries. A very fun watch and my favourite drama to date.

2. Nevertheless (Korean): The first drama I ever watched, this one although hated a lot by the audience for its portrayal of toxic relationships, just struck a chord with me because of its realistic depiction of messy relationships and how as humans we'll take the wrong road knowingly because of our nature.

3. Poisson d'Avril (Japanese Movie): A comedy of errors of sorts, this reminds me of classical films with its colour palette,  retro music and the overall vibe. This is a very simple movie at its core but the pacing and the overall cohesion of various elements keeps you hooked.

4. A Business Proposal (Korean): The definition of a "Romantic Comedy" drama for me, although plays heavily with cliches, the entire sequence ends up being hilariously engaging and is well worth a quick binge.

5. Ishiko to Haneo: Sonna Koto de Uttaemasu? - Director's Cut (Japanese): A drama that aims to educate while entertain, this one talks about the various issues plaguing the society and the Justice system. P.S. The main characters are very likable!

6. My Liberation Notes (Korean): A story about motivation, monotony and uninspired lives; about how to free oneself from those shackles.

Other than that, I've recently taken a liking to Hong-Kong action cinema from the 80s and 90s. And I am also going through old catalogues of Japanese films, sometime in the future I plan on watching the legendary director Kurosawa Akira's movies.

That's all from me. Have a nice day!
