TBH I saw the plot twist coming since I read the synopsis. There was no other reason why they would add amnesia into the story if not for the twist xD but it was really nicely set up in the series too, and the ending just made me want more.

If you haven't seen them yet, I got 2 suggestions. Strangers from Hell and Evil Minds. TJATN is basically a mash up of these two. Also it's great to see another Ancient Detective fan. Li Jia for sure has some "dark side", it's obvious from promotional material like the poster and it shows in the released trailers. Joseph Zeng also said in an interview that he picked Li Jia specifically because he wanted to play and explore the other side of Li Jia, so I'm guessing this side will start to appear in around episode 14.
Apples are a massive metaphor in the series, but I have no idea what they mean, the importance of them, or what they hint at.
Edit: Li Jia's schizophrenia starts to act up at episode 10 Edit 2: Episode 11 we learn that Li Jia doesn't like apples, yet he might have unconsciously bought them anyways. Edit 3: Li Jia gets all giddy when Zhang Cha Cha kissed him. We stan females that take the lead, and males who allow themselves to feel shy~~ Edit 4: Xiao Xi and Zhang Cha Cha have a brother and sister relationship Edit 5: Chen Ming Xuan plants doubt into Li Jia, saying he shouldn't have friends because it's not fair for them if Li Jia shares his burden.
10 episode in review-ish, update and predictions! (This will be a long one~~) It's been a while since I was this invested in a series, so expect to see me often in this comment section! This will be spoiler free, and I'll add a reply containing spoilers and predictions for those who are interested.
IMPORTANT FOR NEW WATCHERS: I recommend you don't watch the trailer, outro credits or promotional material to avoid major spoilers.
Show genres: Thriller, Mystery, Suspense, Psychological with a hint of Horror, Romance and Comedy.
After episode 5, story becomes much more clear. The series will follow cases (the show calls them chapters) that last 2-5 episodes, with a bigger plot (Li Jia and his psychosis) running in the background. All cases are related to human psychology and it's many topics. Though it does follow your usual detective format, this story is so much more character driven than plot. In every chapter, you'll meet (usually tragic) characters and learn about their story and the story of the people surrounding them. Some chapters are more developed than others, but they're all interesting and make you think. Though one thing to note is, although the cases in each chapter are all realistic per say, they are certainly rather exaggerated. Additionally, some chapters, like heterochromia, leave understandable plot holes, because the people investigating them aren't professionals, but instead curious university students who don't have the rights often to dig that deep.
Characters: Li Jia - Kind, Intelligent, curious and innocent male lead who visits Hong Kong to learn from his Idol and find a cure to his possible fate of getting schizophrenia. More info in spoiler. Zhang Cha Cha - Energetic, outgoing and optimistic female lead who finds herself to often gravitate towards our male lead. She's a bit annoying in the first 3 episodes, but afterwards her annoyingness is replaced by much more enjoyable witty commentary. Shi Cheng - Fun and persistent rich best friend of Li JIa. A scaredy cat, but he's willing to face his fears. Xiao Xi - Mysterious and charismatic boss of Zhang Cha Cha that runs a small cult of some sorts. He probably has feelings towards our main female lead. Chen Ming Xuan - Li Jia's idol. Very... very suspicious.

Music is generic for this type of series, so is cinematography (but I'm a sucker for top-down stair shots). 3. Plot has been.... very mysterious so far, so I'm not sure yet as to what direction it'll head but I'm still engaged. 4. Giving me Strangers From Hell x Evil Minds vibe, but on a larger and more paranormal scale.

Yes, but something about Ashes of Love didn't fully click with me. I personally didn't even enjoy TMoPB as much as other people either. I like the magic, fantasy and tacky visual effects, but romance wouldn't be the genre I enjoy most.
Thought I wouldn't like it when it first aired. Started watching yesterday and I'm all caught up. Aside from the usual Chinese drama flaws and tropes (like evil step mother and whiny/dumb female lead), It's really good. If you don't like poetry don't worry. It covers a lot of Chinese poems, but there's good action scenes and fluff scenes if your into that. The male lead is some overpowered jack of all trades that came straight out of an anime. But his overpowered-ness is not dislikable and certain enemies still feel threatening. It isn't amazing, but it's certainly one of the better dramas in it's genre.

Just trash Chinese culture. Even today some people throw out or give up their children simply because they're girls (thank god my parents love me). Most Chinese dramas either show girls as strong or courageous and determined, but almost never smart.
The first episode followed the novel almost perfectly. Really excited to see the rest of the series. I personally also enjoy the faster pace of the show <3
