I'm not sure how all that is going to go down (also haven't read the book yet), so this is just my preliminary assessment. I don't think she knows he is a prince (not like they have name cards/relationship charts hanging around). I agree it is not a great choice, but she is also not working on the full info.

It's not so much being dumb as not having enough information to make a better decision. She is in the dark about a lot of things, so she can only do so much with the info she has. I lay this predominantly at Xie Zheng's feet.

While I'm not a fan of his keeping his identity hidden this long, this is probably a big factor in why he is dragging his feet. He knows that once she knows, there will probably be some differences because he is not just some random guy. So I can give him a bit of slack for that. Poor dude doesn't have much love in his life.

I lay that action (trading prisoner for food) and the other things in the previews at Xie Zheng's feet, since he hasn't deigned to enlighten her about who he is and what is going on. She is far from stupid, but give the girl some info to make better choices.

One thing I really love about this show is how it has brought us together as a community and fostered great conversations. ☺️

I agree with you! I have no issue with the separation (that is more realistic, to be honest), but the lying about the identity for this long is what annoys me.

Other shows didn't get it wrong, per se, but it is somewhat different. In the military, while the generals would eat better than foot soldiers, they still wouldn't eat as well as they would back home. If they are in a food scarcity situation, they will eat similar food to the foot soldiers. But military food is not the same as food that you would eat back home. So, unless the general is straight up talking with his soldiers, asking what they eat in their small villages, he would never know how poorly they eat at home.

Regarding your comment, "It feels like he’s never even met a poor person...", he more than likely has never met anyone that poor before. He is in the highest echelons of society, and his servants live a better life than the people in this town. While his foot soldiers are comprised of poor folks like this, a general is not really mingling with them on the regular. So his not knowing what they eat and how they live is not surprising. I thought he handled it well, though, and didn't judge.

That isn't love, it is obsession. You don't treat someone you love that way, regardless of your backstory.

I knew there was going to be an epic slap involved in that reveal.

He is not saving her from anything; he is taking away her choice. She should be able to choose whether she wants to be the Marchioness or a soldier's wife, rather than being constantly in the dark and unaware of the danger she is in because all the evil hot dudes know she is his wife (and his weakness).
