The follow up drama to this one has been announced: tentative title is Trap of Desire (욕망의 덫). Jang Seohee (Temptation of Wife, Game of Witches) has been cast as the FL. Starts in August after the end of Pearl in Red
Getting around to watching this (I'm running out of dailies to watch on KOCOWA smh)Two things: this has my favorite…
Comment under me spoiled it but I like sandeul better than taepoong so if seoyeon ends up with sandeul at the end I can get behind this lol taepoong's crash outs, as valid as they are, are annoying lol and I dislike chaebol heir mls who have chips on their shoulder until they meet the FL tbh
insoon is so histronic... why kick out baram and not baeksan if you're that pressed over the "affair" and the guy playing her brother... I think they're why I dropped this the first time around because they're annoying. shit... I don't think I like any of the characters the guy who plays Daebak (seriously, that's his name lol) has played since he tends to get typecast as obnoxious "comedic relief" characters. Wonder how long it'll take before I start fast forwarding through their scenes

Two things: this has my favorite posters of any of the 2020s daily dramas and Kang Baeksan is wild 😭
My thoughts so far as I'm on episode 7 it's good so far. Kinda intense tbh. Hopefully the romance doesn't bog down the revenge too much (I care more about the latter than the former....)
I like how Insoon and Baeksan named their kids Taepoong (typhoon), Baram (wind) and Bada (sea) nice theme they have going on lol
Deadass??? Myung-Jun is one of the roots of all evil here! 😭
I want Hwakyung to destroy him lol I'm on the part where she gets kicked out the house and I feel bad 😔
Joowon pmo with her "I'm doing this to help Hwakyung" schtick lmao it's kinda not her place??? I have a feeling Hwakyung meant it when she said she would destroy her and Woojung so I'm excited lol
Also I hated how at the dinner at the villa joowon was being passive aggressive and being like "(Hwakyung) is greedy and ambitious" bc she didn't gaf that her drunk father that abandoned her was dying yet it's okay for Woojung to want more because of who her mom is...
Admittedly i came into this drama expecting Phoenix 2020/The Two Sisters levels of BS because at the time of writing, this was the last daily drama to air on SBS. I say all that to say that this was a way stronger effort than the two aforementioned dramas. For starters, none of the leads left/got fired midway through the drama 🤭 This really wasn't a bad drama at all. There were only really one flaw I had with the story:
The side characters did eventually start taking up more screentime and their subplots started to overshadow the plot related to the leads (Yeonhee and Jaekyung). When it was Yoonchul's (stupid) romance plot or Seowoo and Hyungjin's pregnancy it wasn't really much of an issue because Yuna was still being Villain of the Year. But at the end ... things started dragging. I would say everything after Yuna goes to prison can be viewed as an epilogue of sorts. Some of it is relevant to the plot (like Haneul learning about Yuna's crimes) but some of it I just skipped because it was filler. Ie... Junhee having a relationship with her coworker and Woojoo apparently being adopted?
That being said the writer missed an opportunity for Yuna to attempt to break out of prison lmao...
I give it a 7.5/10. Now SBS, start producing dailies again 😂
Cho Seonghee has been casted as Han Jeongwon, who is a writer for a broadcasting station. She is described as a person with a "gorgeous appearance and excellent sense" she has "good natural sense, charm, and lives her life making perfectly calculated choices" however she will be facing "unexpected moments" throughout the story
I know the writer is trying to portray Chairman Han as doing the right thing re: Dushim but I can't see it that way lol he may have not been having an affair but that doesn't erase him lying and being deceitful about everything??? Like am I taking crazy pills??
I don't think I will ever like Dushim ... sure she lost Jihoon but she's not the victim she thinks she is lol. this show was way more interesting when it was Eundong vs Everybody not the "Let's All Protect Saint Dushim" Show
nah junhyuk is built different.... his uncle has a heart attack right in front of him and he doesn't even flinch?…
I can get behind Junhyuk choosing the nuclear option and telling the board about chairman han's "affair" he's playing chess
Other than that I really hate dushim lmao she's so passive it irritates me. Myeonghee confronts her and she has the chance to set things straight but doesn't tell the truth. I can see how Myeonghee thinks they're having an affair. All this sneaking around and whatnot. Just say you're jihoon's bio mom!!!!
Yeonhee & Jaekyung adopting Haneul is probably the most cutting revenge I've seen in a daily... and the gag is they're not even doing it to be malicious 😭
Also I'm loving Yuna's prison arc ... Yuna vs Hwaja & Friends is oddly entertaining lol
Yuna has quite the determination.... she lost everything, Junho and his family hate her now, all of her "illicit acts" have been exposed, her accomplices turned on her, she is a fugitive on the run YET... She seriously thinks she can smuggle a fake ID and become the CEO of lala group again 💀 the only thing that stopped her was her accomplice snitched on her 💀 it goes without saying Yuna belongs on my "wildest makjang villains" list
In an alternative universe this drama would've gotten extended and we would see Yuna do just that 💀
They need to go ahead and do it! I know SBS, KBS and MBC are all stakeholders in KOCOWA. there's no way that SBS…
You're welcome!
MZ = millennial + gen z! I've seen it used on Korean forums like Nate Pann etc. I figure most of that demographic gets their news from online, especially since SK is considered to be the most connected country in the world
If I were at SBS I would've asked for citations about the 1% ratings.. like literally reference namuwiki lol. Daily dramas have a cult following and while the ratings will obviously pale in comparison to Netflix dramas, MBC and KBS1/2 clearly aren't bothered by the ratings since they keep making dailies. If the ratings were truly as bad as the union is arguing, the other networks would've pulled the plug 🙃
Btw: Seeing you describe the exact times the soaps lead into the news makes me so nostalgic for when I'd spend time at my grandparents house 😭 my grandmother was a big fan of bold and the beautiful and she was even an extra on there (because my uncle played drums in one episode 😂)
