I have yet to watch this, but can anyone explain what the relationship/connection is between the two FLs? I'm…
I dropped this around episode 15 but I'm lurking because I like to see how dramas end lol but I can answer your question:
So the two FLs. Myeonghee initially was used as a surrogate mother for Taeho who is the CEO of Adele Group. She did this to pay for her sister Danhee's cancer surgery. However Taeho never disclosed to Myeonghee that he was married so that caused drama. He pretended he was going to marry her as well. He did this because Jeongran couldn't get pregnant and Taeho needs a heir. Due to this, Myeonghee got unfairly tagged with the mistress tag.
Which lead to Myeonghee getting killed. Jeongran does this because it turns out she can get pregnant after all! However Myeonghee's son is still the eldest so that causes Jeongran to turn to murder!
While myeonghee passed away , Danhee found out that her baby was still alive! Jinju/Chloe's dad (who happens to be an OBGYN, Dr. Baek) helps deliver the baby right in the medical examiner room. Danhee decides to act as Myeonghee as revenge and raise Minjun as her son... Her endgame is to have Minjun take over Adele Group. Danhee keeps a visible presence within Adele and is known for being competent
However Jeongran had given birth to Hyunjun shortly after and his existence complicates the succession battle because Jeongran is Taeho's official wife (funny enough Taeho seems to like Danhee/Myeonghee better lmao) Jeongran wants Hyunjun to inherit Adele for her own reasons...
Jinju was born the same day as Minjun and they are essentially boyfriend and girlfriend after the first time skip. This is the hint of the first connection because Danhee opposed Minjun studying abroad which Minjun wanted to do with Jinju. Although Danhee assumes Yuna is Minjun's girlfriend instead so she doesn't actually SEE Jinju.
Jinju's life is perfect until she and her dad are in a car accident (probably the most dramatic one I've seen in a daily lol) that is orchestrated by, you guessed it, Adele Group. Why? Many things but the main thing is Taeho wants to acquire Dr. Baek's biotech firm.
She links up with James in the aftermath and goes to the US, learns business and cuts her hair. She starts going by Chloe... This is when the FLs link up - Danhee hires Chloe as a consultant for the very same biotech firm that Taeho stole from Dr. Baek. Thats the connection between them, two women who lost someone due to Adele Group and want revenge!
I love Jung-Won! She was definitely a great FL to me! Nice recap. I loved Jung-Won and Young-Chae's dynamic too,…
Oh yes I like your idea! One of the scenes that stood out to me was when Jeongwon and Kibeom were arguing and Jeongwon was like "I want to fly like a stork" while kibeom was trying to get her to live like a smaller, less powerful bird. I really wanted to see how far Jeongwon would go to maintain that "stork lifestyle" π
I also wish we could've seen more of "Jin Jeongwon" because I loved seeing her manipulate Taeseok and the man behind Taeseok. Youngchae becoming a better person would've been cool to see as well. But I like how at the end of the drama you can't squarely put a character in the box of "good" vs "evil" (well except Jin Taeseok lol)
This drama was so good. I have a feeling that I would've had way more patience with pearl in red if it didn't immediately follow this one lol
The funniest part is that they were speaking complete gibberish. That is NOT how French actually sounds πThis…
Omg I knew something was off with the French ... I had rewinded it trying to figure out what language it was π
I'm in agreement with you re:the teen storylines in penthouse. The only thing I really liked was the parallel between Yoonhee vs Seoju vs Rona vs Eunbyeol but only when it came to the art school /opera rivalry. The love triangle (as it does 95% of the time for me) between Rona Eunbyeol and Seokkyung's brother (forgot his name lmaoo) was when I lost interest... I was way more into watching joo dantae and friends trying to take over the world π
Return is DEFINITELY scratching that itch for me tho ... I am seated
Trauma (the ending theme) came on shuffle and I was reminded of this absolute banger of a μΌμΌ λλΌλ§. This may be the fastest I rewatch a daily lmaooo
ep 15...Chloe arrives and Yuna is already sweating lmaooo she's very bad at this villain thing. Chloe coming for…
Jihoon being Dushim's son is the plot twist i was referring to in Fatal Promise. the subplot is so boring to me and i feel like it's just dushim looking sad all the time lol Eundong vs Everybody is way more interesting to me!
your daily drama line-up looks good! where are you watching eve's love? i was looking for that one but couldn't find it lol
a place in the sun was on my list because oh changseok but a morally grey FL??? I might push this one further up the queue
i watched angel's revenge a long time ago! i barely remember any of it I should rewatch...
Going to add return when I finish the token non-daily drama on my watch list (queen of ambition lol)
ep 15...Chloe arrives and Yuna is already sweating lmaooo she's very bad at this villain thing. Chloe coming for…
Thank you!
I'm also watching the First Man. I'm on episode 60. I am way more into that right now which is funny because historically I would drop MBC dailies in favor of KBS.
I'm watching the brave yong sujeong which I liked however a certain plot twist put the drama in limbo for me...
Fatal promise is good although I could do without jihoon and dushim's storyline. I'm expecting Hyewon and Junhyuk's downfall to add 10 years to my life lol
Secret House - Annie Brown has me locked in
Non dailies I'm still watching king of ambition although kocowa has been recommending the drama "the innocent man" to me and it sounds right up my alley
Once I finish one of the many dailies on my watch list I'm also considering rewatching gold mask because it's written by the same woman who wrote queens House
And possibly actually finishing gracious revenge because the premise is interesting and it's written by the same woman who wrote Cinderella game
Ugh I was away because I took (and passed!) a certification exam and now I'm about to take an even harder test...…
ep 15... Chloe arrives and Yuna is already sweating lmaooo she's very bad at this villain thing. Chloe coming for Yuna should be iconic but it feels... diluted. Idk why but the Chloe Lee reveal felt weirdly anticlimactic to me
These gag scenes are very annoying. Jeongran and her driver, James and Danhee's friend/assistant (their love line is going to be PAINFUL), and that one scene where Taeho shoved Jeongran out the way... I hear those stupid sound effects and the temperature drops 10 degrees. I've got too much stuff on my watch list to be watching this shit lmao I don't do sitcoms.
Okay yeah wow I can't get into this drama. Maybe it's because the drama moved so fast? Several of the characters feel like miscasts (they take me out the drama like the entire Choi family) the gag scenes are awful and excessive. I still like Danhee Hyunjun and Taeho but I cannot reiterate enough that the flaws are taking me out the story π
It's been real hopefully I like the next one better βπΎ
Ugh I was away because I took (and passed!) a certification exam and now I'm about to take an even harder test... this drama
Here I was thinking James was going to be a cool sidekick but it's more sitcom goofiness ... JUST what this drama needs
This storyline with Yuna trying to marry Minjun is like watching paint dry... I can't connect to either character. Minjun annoys me because he has no personality and Yuna annoys me because of her tantrums and screeching (and normally I LIKE the antagonistic female characters!!!)
I've given up on Jeongran or her driver becoming serious threats
I'm on episode 14 I'm going to give this until chloe shows up. Maybe that'll make this thing wake up already...
Episode 10. It's crazy how hard it is for me to connect to this show. I'll give creativity points for professor…
I fear I might not make it past the end of the week lol I really hope the writer isn't rushing through the exposition with the hopes of Jinju's love triangle carrying the bulk of the drama
Today's episode got a 7.7% viewership rating which is the lowest so far but I wonder how much of that is due to audience dissatisfaction vs baseball cancellations
Let's hope I care more about these characters tomorrow π I don't see it happening though because these characters are all ... One dimensional af. You can describe them all with one word
before I lock into episode 10 the highlight of episode 9 was Taeho and Danhee talking amongst themselves after the inheritance conversation
For the writer to immediately follow it up with Yuna's screeching about Jinju is nasty work. Now let's see about ep 10 since this is supposed to be The Big One π
Ooooh, I gotta be honest. Like, brutally honest. π¬ It is NOT easy for me to watch this drama when I dislike/don't…
iirc all the staff (PD, directors) all previously only worked for KBS1 and it shows. The gag scenes are so intolerable because the last 3 dailies in this time slot actually used them well
I feel like every scene has that stupid circus clown music and I immediately clock out when I hear it. Like can we be serious for ONE scene?
Yuna's origin story is nothing new but the fact that Danhee opposes Minjun studying abroad ? Seems like he's going to stand up to her for the first time ever next episode. On top of that, Yuna's dad vs Professor Baek? In front of Taeho?! Adele stocks?! You know it's Serious Business when stocks are brought up. Let's see some π₯conflictπ₯
Hyunjun is my favorite of the kids lol
The funniest scene of the episode was when Jeongran's driver tried to run up on the guards at Ihawsae (?) and they just rolled their eyes and walked away
I was looking forward to and tuned into Dan-Hee's storyline from the jump. Park Jin-Hee is a great actress and…
To me the stakes feel low because: taeho ain't thinking about succession ("I'll decide that later") Neither Minjun or Hyunjun seem to care... Jeongran definitely cares about the succession battle but I can't take her seriously as a villain because not only is she obnoxious AF but danhee has the upper hand. (As she should)
For the kids the stakes seem tied to Yuna's inferiority complex and Jinju & Minjun having feelings for each other. I'm sleep!
We just finished AGL and that was a masterclass in how to raise the stakes. Especially for a succession battle
Quick edit because I just made the connection that the "low stakes" feeling is directly tied to the characterization or lack thereof.

It'll be so fun to watch when the house of cards falls lol
So far enjoying this drama it's giving sky castle/penthouse with less teenage antics and more criminal justice... more scandal! I'm in!
your daily drama line-up looks good! where are you watching eve's love? i was looking for that one but couldn't find it lol

At least this won't get the weekend cliffhanger treatment?
For the writer to immediately follow it up with Yuna's screeching about Jinju is nasty work. Now let's see about ep 10 since this is supposed to be The Big One π
