Can someone tell me what accent/dialect Su Zhe is speaking? I don't speak mandarin, but I reckon his accent/dialect is different from other characters. Secondly, is this difference in accent/dialect is canon in the novel? Or is it something that only happens in the drama? I never read the novel so hopefully someone can explain. Thanks!
I'm a sucker for a dark, gritty, and slow-burn love story. The burn is so slow that when it does, it hits the roof. XW and JXN's story line can be categorised as such, and, my goodness, it was delightful to watch. Though this drama has many flaws, XW and JXN's love story offsets those flaws for me (but maybe not for everyone else).
8 episodes in and I find myself fall in love with Ru Yi. She is beautiful, elegant, ruthless, and efficient. Her action scenes are superbly done! Can't take my eyes off of her 0_0
I really like the main characters' visuals in this drama. The costumes are lovely. And can we talk a little bit about the wigs? It is a rarity, I think, in wuxia/xianxia dramas, for the main characters to not to have elaborate updos and too many dangling hair accessories (yes, I'm looking at you, TTEOTM). I love how their hair flowing naturally (like Gong Ziyu and Yun Weishan) or simply braided into small braids (like Gong Yuanzhi). Perhaps the only exception is Gong Zishang's hair accessories, but they eventually make it a prop for a comic relief scene with Jin Fan. But her hair accessory is still really simple. The simplicities found in this drama is what attracts me. My ultimate appreciation of the wigs is when the characters are fighting each other with moves that showcase the hair flow. Simply gorgeous. Kudos to whoever creates the visuals of the characters!
Why is it... that every episode, this drama always left a certain impression in me. Like a tightness in my chest, lingering sadness, and unexplained grief (and the OSTs make those feelings worse! lol). All XY's relationships with CX, TSJ, and XL, are all painful to me. The other drama that left similar feelings was 2018's Bloody Romance. But though it's painful, it's also addicting! This is very complicated. I want to finish all episodes, but on the other hand, it's like I *know* that I *will* be heartbroken by the end of the last episode, no matter with whom XY end up with. Does anyone else feel the same?
