Title Shadow Spoiler
This is sort of a Chinese "Man in the Iron Mask" but without the musketeers. It was about choices and how everyone…
The movie starts and ends with the moment Madam finally gets to make her own choice about what direction her life will take...
The two people with the least amount of power at the start of the movie are Madam and Shadow. Shadow was kidnapped when he was around eight years old and turned into a "shadow" or body double for a powerful noble. IF he tries to run away his mother will be killed so he stays and endures soul shattering hardships. Eventually he falls in love with the wife of his master. Once he confesses his love to her, all of his choices flow from there.
Madam is in a tough spot. When her husband is mortally injured, Shadow takes his place while her husband "The General" tries to recuperate. The main problem is that the General has quite possibly been driven mad by the isolation and the blow to his psyche when he was badly beaten by another general in a dual. Her husband decides that the only way to recover from this blow is to become a king.
Her problem lies with the fact that she cares for both men.
Some people may not understand the ending, but to me it seems simple.
Shadow has learned his lessons very well and managed survive to claim the thone. The only person who can stop him is Madam . But why would she? Because she loved her husband? Maybe, but he's dead and she also loves Shadow. The King and General played a deadly game and both paid the price. Now she has to choose, does she denouce Shadow? Her husband staged a coup and the king is dead. If she denouces Shadow not only will she die, but the kingdom will probably collaps into civil war. This is the moment she chooses to become a queen.

This is sort of a Chinese "Man in the Iron Mask" but without the musketeers. It was about choices and how everyone has the power to make them. No one in this movie is all good or bad; that's why so much of it was shot in shades of gray. There was a little too much symbolism for my taste, but it's still worth watching on a rainy day.

Title Shadow Spoiler
I'm so confused with the ending can someone explain? The wife ran to the door but why did she stop and kept looking…
Because she had to decide if she was going to become a Queen or die with her "husband"...
This movie was about choices. Madam was the one person who had no power in her life. Shadow was another but he claimed his power when he confessed his love to Madam. The rest of his choices flowed from that moment. Once his mother was killed there was only one place for him to go and maybe find happiness.

I'm confused too... maybe the wife stopped because she decided to go along with the lie? the whole movie was weird...…
The princess was willful and put pride before kingdom. I thing the point of this movie was that no one was all good or bad. That why it was shot in shades of gray.

Love is a moment from Heirs was THE worst OST for me, still in my head after years. And well, Almost Paradise…
Was there ever one that never got old for you?
For me it was that Doobie Doobie Doo song from My Girlfriend is Gumbio.

Maybe it's what they are like whenever they are in the "spirit" world... so it could be both? That way no matter what happens to them in the mortal world they alway end up together.

Those of you complaining about the OST obviously couldn't survive Boys Over Flowers! For almost a year after, any time I saw any actor from the F4, Almost Paradise would start in my head. LOL

I liked this drama, it's just that Chul Su looked much sexier and more manly before he "cleaned up"... and the whole uterus floating through the universe was strange to say the least.

That was them being happy together in the "afterlife".

Save yourself and skip this one! If you want to watch a melodrama there are much better ones than this mediocre offering. This was based on a 90's Japanese drama, and it shows. It felt like an American daytime soap opera. Just 6.5 for me.

I agree. She should've broken up with the chef before she cheated. That doesn't change the fact that the chef wasn't in love with her. Calling off the wedding was still the right thing to do.
