You can tell this is part one of a two-part drama. I actually kept waiting for the next episode for a couple of weeks before I realized it was over... LOL. If it's on Netflix I guess I'm going to have to start waiting before I start any new drama for them to finish the 2nd part.
This is a modern-day Japanese version of the Story of Job. Our hero is a great guy living the good life, but is he really a good guy? That's the question this drama is all about. Think Trading Places only absolutely NO humor in this drama. The story itself was okay and the actors very good. Was it one of my favorites? No, but I don't regret watching it. If you have a free rainy day and you're trying to find a J-drama to watch you could do a lot worse than this drama.
I'm a fan of Jerry Yang but I think he was too old for this role. The drama would have been better served with an actor that looked young enough to be in college. On top of that, the female love interests looked super young... like they could have been cast in a high school drama young. As a result while I don't think this drama was bad, I think the Korean version was better.
You're all hypocrites. y'all weren't complaining about the age gap between the Count Your Luck Stars leads but…
For me it's not the age gap parse it's a balance of power issue. How the writers deal with it is what can make or break a drama/movie. In Secret Love Affair for example Yoo Ah In's character exercised a lot of power within the relationship.
"He gets beat by a member of an opposing team, every other episode" ... really? Are you sure you watched this…
I get it. Like I said I liked the Japanese movie so I thought I'd give this a try. Maybe I liked the movie because it was shorter and didn't follow the manga exactly. If someone loved the manga I get why they might love this drama.

Yes, he did: his father (who plays him in flip flops), team captain, mean guy, ancient guy, etc. He eventually beats them but still... I ended up dropping this drama when the 100 yr old wooden racket guy beat him. I rarely drop a drama; I had been fighting through the ridiculousness to finish it but that was the point the drama got too ridiculous... even for me. If you loved the drama I support you. There are ridiculous dramas that I love, It Started With a Kiss for example, that other people can't stand. I read the comment section to get a feel for whether or not I want to watch a drama, sometimes the negative comments help me decide. As long as it's not rude I think giving an honest opinion about a drama is a good thing.
A Chinese teenage tennis prodigy comes home after living "overseas". He's badest of all... except wait, he's not. He can't beat his father or two of the senior members of his team. He gets beat by members of opposing teams, and it seems like every other episode and he gets told that his style is too much like his dad's style of play. Rise and repeat. I gave up about 3/4th of the way in. I thought I would try this because I liked the Japanese movie version but this turned out to be a painful Prince tennis gear infomercial. Maybe if I had read and loved the manga I would have a different opinion.... but I doubt it! What works in manga or anime rarely works for me in live-action. Bottom line: If you give this a try, you'll know by the time you meet "bully guy" if this is for you. If you aren't into it by then trust me, it doesn't get better.
If you go into this drama hoping for something as good as MoneyFlower you'll be disappointed. I've been a fan of Kim Sun Ah since My Lovely Sam Soon. I'm not sure what happened here but the robot in Are You Human Too showed more emotion than the female lead did in this drama. Here's the bottom line, I think this drama was just okay.
I have to agree with the people who said that Hans Zhang's acting made this drama bearable. (bearly) The story itself messier than a tangled ball of red yarn. On a side note... Am I the only person that finds it strange that a legal assistant goes to work wearing a mini-skirt and thigh-high boots?
