@KateFollow your preferences. :)There unbalanced relationship is an interesting take, that rarely gets brought…
Exactly. I feel like I’m missing everything because none of it makes sense. The lack of chemistry also doesn’t help. It’s difficult Kate, this is not for the faint of heart. We gotta be strong 💪🏻

It’s either that or dropping the whole thing altogether. I dropped the whole thing altogether but I’m still here after 2 months because Xiang Liu won’t let me forget him lololol

I have no idea. But somehow “he’s the ideal husband material”, “I wish I had a Jing in my life”, “he’s too good for this world”, and my personal favorite:“he lives only for you and you’re his number one priority”. Sure, yeah. That’s very healthy and not at all creepy.
What a clown world we be living in.

LOLNo, really. LOLOLOLOLYou're definitely not the only one. We could probably fill up several stadiums. Or a neighborhood.…
It's so frustrating. They already have their happy ending. What more do they want?

I understand all of this, and I’m not making light of these events, but it’s also true that these characters are not even normal human beings in a normal 2023 setting.

They are deities and demons, they are magical beings who have extremely long lifespans and they have powers. So yes, it’s really bad that he does what he does, but people seem to confuse this with a domestic spat that ends with violence against women.

This is not the usual man versus woman situation, with all the biological differences that it implies. She was a woman, yes, but she was in a man’s body. And not a normal man’s body. She was already 300 years old. She may no longer have her full powers, but she’s never been a normal human being. We watch men kicking each other’s butts and being aggressive with each other all the time in movies and dramas, and here, it just happened that we got Yang Zi playing a part that perhaps should have been played by a male actor. The biting scenes and everything else would probably have a wildly different connotation, but still, she was for all intents and purposes, a man, a magical man. It’s like saying that the fight between Saruman and Gandalf is awful because it involves two elderly people. They are wizards. Normal logic doesn’t apply, even if he knew she was a woman.

Even when he intentionally caused her pain (when she was already back in a woman’s body) that was in no way more intense than the pain Jing kept inflicting on her, despite his promises of never hurting her. It doesn’t make what XL did right, but Jing did more damage to XY than Xiang Liu ever could. Didn’t she literally spit out blood because of the heartbreak? I don’t see the Jingers pointing this out other than in the context of “oh, but she loves him so much, look at all this blood on the carpet!”. And for XY, the betrayal was worse than any physical pain. They love to say how Jing was always a victim of his evil family. Well, his evil family and his inability to properly deal with them hurt XY to no end. For years. So it’s ironic to see only XL being called out for hurting her. Hurt comes in many ways. Some are more insidious because they are hiding behind a good-guy facade. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

And of course XL has issues, that’s undeniable. He’s a demon, after all. He never hid this from anyone and he definitely is not what we can call an ideal husband material. But neither is Jing. Not in that period, and certainly not in 2023.

So my gripe is with the way these comments keep popping up, making it seem like all of these instances can be reduced to a Me Too case of abuse against women and that we are all apologists because we happen to prefer XL to the other MLs. As if we couldn’t distinguish real life and fantasy.

This main comment section would be a lot friendlier and (IMO) more enjoyable, especially for the newbies and neutrals,…
Oh, it's the usual "liking XL is why most people end up in abusive relationships". Sure, criticizing fictional characters is fair game. But passing judgment on real people? Nope.

I agree 100%, but there's always that one individual with the same old "people who like bad boys tend to be in abusive relationships" baloney, so it's really hard to just stay silent.

Just because we like a character in a drama doesn't reflect our real-life choices in men. Most of us watching…
BBQueen: “I am sure most of the ladies here who love XL have great husbands/Bf in their lives! Even think XL is "toxic".”

So which part of her comment is downplaying or erasing anything? Or denying anything? And who is y’all?

Exactly. And the initial "abuse" part, which is something that people understandably but erroneously frown upon, was in the context of her being in a male body, sneaking on enemy camp, and throwing poison at a high ranking officer during a war. It wasn't a husband and wife spat that ended with physical violence. That's something that completely goes over people's heads. The drama also did a disservice to him in several scenes, 'cause God forbid the essence of the novel is retained in its entirety.
He may seem like a bad boy because he has no time for silly shenanigans and empty promises. He successfully does what he sets out to do, including making sure that the infamous happy ending can happen. What a villain, so toxic. 🙄

Yes, all of them are flawed. ALL of them, including the green flag Good Guy™ fox dude.

But yes. It is sad. And what's sadder is that people think he's some paragon of virtue because he chooses not to fight back. In a time where that Good Guy™ approach was dangerous. It put others at risk and hurt the ones closest to him. Including his beloved. Especially his beloved. But doing nothing and choosing to be a good guy through it all is somehow his strongest trait. His weakness is not weakness, it's strength and his kindness is akin to sainthood. That's all so unrealistic that it makes a 9-headed-serpent demon look like an average Joe, going to work every day 'cause life is hard and if you do nothing there's nothing others will do for you. But sure, he's the bad one. Saving people's lives and asking for nothing in return. What's worse, making people believe he's some kind of monster when he's not.

Don't even get me started on that evil Grandma thing. The others are literally fighting wars and somehow the family drama is too much to be dealt with. Spare me this nonsense.

LOL rant over. Glad you see this too.

But if you're already at episode 24, I'm sure you can see that abusive is not exactly what he is. Keep watching some more. And welcome to the team :)
