This is a drama from 2013, but seems more like something you would watch in early 2000s. There are so many accidents, scissors conveniently placed there to cut the female leads hand, piercing objects laying around waiting for people to fall into them, everything is over the top. And I can’t get over the fact that the sister is setting the rules and controlling, or at least trying to control everything and for the the female lead there is never a limit to what the sister can do. As long as the sister says, she follows. The ending proves that. She cannot make decisions for herself, she waits for the sister to tell her what to do. The first 2 or 3 episodes made it seem like we would have a super interesting romance between the main leads, but no, because the sister is the one writing the script for this drama. I am surprised at how this does not have a lower rating.
Actually, I was wondering why Bua took this role. But after watching I realised, her character is not just any…
Actually, she felt more like a main lead at times than the supposed female lead. Her character had a bigger presence and influence in the plot. In fact, when I think about screen time and role in the plot, Joe and Toom were the actual main characters. I definitely would not recommend this drama for the romance between the "main" leads.
After watching this drama. I feel the lead actor is not Great Warintorn, Masu Junyangdikul acting as Joe is the…
You’re right about Joe being the true main lead. The whole story seemed to be written around his character. Every character has a connection with him or is there for the sake of him. The "main" leads romance felt very lacking because of that. We just did not see enough of them for us to feel connected. They met a few times, then they were dating, then he proposed and then they married.
I have a huge problem with this drama. The main leads were not actually the main leads. The story happens around Joe and every character is somehow connected to him or is there for the sake of him, especially women. The main leads had less screen time and their relationship seemed more like a nice friendship rather than love because of that. I just could not feel it. I liked that their relationship happened the right way - they met, became friends and got to know more about each other, dated and then got married. It was not a one night stand, a forced marriage by the parents, a marriage for convenience or for revenge. I liked that. But they felt like second leads.
The story was mainly about how Joe was a playboy and a jerk that always got away with everything, somehow was able to make every woman fall for him to the point of losing brain cells, finally finds one he actually "loves" (I would not call it love, but the writers want us to believe it was so...), but then marries her best friend cause she is rich and his family is in trouble. But don’t get me wrong, it’s not like he sacrificed himself for his family. He flirted with (and took to bed when possible) every women that came across his way. It takes him the death of his mistress and finding out his father is as much of a jerk as him and has a second family, plus getting shot and almost dying to finally realise hey, I am a jerk, I need to do something about it. The way he ended was not believable at all, but it seems a common ending for villains in thai dramas.
So yeah, the drama was centred around Joe and the "main" leads felt like supporting characters.
I did not understand your comment until I went through all the supporting characters of this drama. XDBtw, good…
Yay ^^ I have already started watching, stopped on episode 13. The female lead’s personality is the kind I like. Someone who is smart and knows how to stand up for herself.
This drama is now subtitled in English on the iQiyi app.
But they are machine generated subs. I kinda knew just by the way they translated the title of the drama. I personally would rather watch something raw than have the characters saying I love you and the subs saying "frog is on chair, yes" Lol
Does anyone know where/if this can be found subbed yet?
It is subbed on the iQiyi app split into 2 seasons of 12 episodes each. I have not watched it yet so I am not sure about the quality of the subs but I will let you know once I watch it.
EDIT: Ok, so I used the 1st month free trial vip to be able to check all the episodes and unfortunately this is one of the many dramas in the app that have machine generated subs, which are honestly horrible. Google translator would have done a better job.
Are you talking about this drama? This had the least political stuff I have seen. Sure it had politics but all…
It’s been over a year since I watched this so I do not remember it very well but what I meant with my comment is that the story completely changed the focus from one half to the other. The first half was more like romance and action and then those things started to be less and less important in the second half. Again, it has been a long time and since this was clearly not a memorable drama for me, I do not remember exactly what changed in the plot that made me find the second half less interesting than the first half.
I know what you mean. He really bothers me. But my guess is that is the personality he is forced to play and it…
My guess is that in the shadow he actually likes her and cares about her so now that he has realised he is compelled to saying and doing things that hurt her for the sake of his character, it must be really hard on him. I could tell by some of his expressions during episode 3 and 4 that he did not at all mean what he was saying but could not avoid doing it because it is a scene on the storyboard. If my suspicions are confirmed, imagine saying all those horrible things to the person you love when you don’t want to say them, must be really frustrating. And part of me feels bad for him since he has such a jerk for a father. His father is showing all the red flags of someone who is physically abusive to his family, wife and sons.
Thats true, so far is well enough, but we still dont know hows the drama progress later.. so far 8 episodes just…
Yeah, when I said 2 episodes I meant 1h long episodes. When I commented I had watched the first 4 episodes. I just finished watching the other 4. Now I have to wait for the episodes that will come out this week. My opinion did not change. For now it is still going well.
haru THANK YOU for that punch! i was looking foward to that since ep1. kyung is such an asshole you can't change…
I know what you mean. He really bothers me. But my guess is that is the personality he is forced to play and it seems he is starting to realise something is off. Aside from him forgetting what he was doing the previous night during the trip, he also keeps noticing and remembering Dan Oh’s personality change and how she could not care less about him. And there was this one scene during the trip where he was worried about her and actually admitted to it, which was probably his true personality and not something that was written. Who knows, maybe his true personality is not as much of a jerk as the character he is forced to play. I am still rooting for Haru tho. ^^
I have only watched the first 2 episodes but so far I am liking it. The most interesting thing is that I like each character and don’t feel like skipping any of their scenes. The female lead is quite relatable when you think that in real life most things are not under your control and sometimes you’re just watching things happen around you without you being able to do anything about it. But it is still too early to say if the drama as a whole is good.
You have to be really bad to write such a weak story with such a promising theme. Aside from presenting the 3 identities that reside in Jess’s mind, they had no idea what else to do. Everything else was a bunch of nothing with a very convenient ending, too convenient to the point of ridiculous, even in lakorn standards (SPOILER: all 3 bad guys fall from the building and die at the same time...seriously???)
And let’s not even talk about the korean character that was not only unnecessary, but also appeared way too much and did not behave like a korean person at all, more like one of those typical lakorn crazy second female leads.
I have not watched all the dramas that belong in the Bangkok Rak Stories series, but I have watched enough to reach the conclusion that they are just bad. I don’t know if it’s the writers or if it’s because it’s a series so there isn’t as much attention and care, but all the ones I have watched scream low budget, bad writing, bad acting and even bad editing everywhere. This had so much potential and they were able to turn it into a less than average drama. What a waste.
Here, they are subbing this: https://productiveprocrastination.site/2019/02/08/ban-shu-legend-ep-1/
What do you mean? Only 3 more episodes and it will be completely subbed...and this has 42 episodes. The subs were faster than usual actually, I thought this would only be fully subbed in 2020.
I watched the first half of the 1st ep. andthat was it for me too. :/ couldnt love it.
The first episode was honestly the least impressive, so much that I thought that this would be just another one of those dramas that is very average. Episode 2 was a little better and so was episode 3. And for me, so far, the most interesting episode was episode 4. It had a little of everything, funny moments, a little bit of action and a heart wrenching scene that made me tear up.
I feel that instead of starting with a bang, they decided to slowly spice things up. Each episode is better than the previous one. I would say to give it another try. Watch the 4 episodes that are out so far and if you still aren’t able to get into it, then it probably isn’t your kind of drama.
I expected this to be funny considering the male lead is pretending to be a woman, but I never thought it would be this interesting. The first episode was not that impressive, but I have been feeling that with each episode it gets more interesting. Hopefully it will stay that way until the end.
