1, those are not even traits he is showing in the drama. 2. the traits he is showing in the drama - if someone is bothered by that - they must want a statue for a spouse. Jin Qi is doing the bare minimum. He is not even expressing his love to her yet - he is just offering courtesy and kindness. Imagine if he was to express his love - they would probably think he is psychotic. It also kills me that it is an issue with him but in every other drama there is a delusional female (we call her de lulu) and they are just laughed off. But let a man give minimum courtesy and he is considered obsessed - that is wild

i saw it clearly. Xiu Ru knew from the beginning something was wrong with Du Cui Que. Thats why she dropped her handkerchief at the banquet to look at her from under the table. She wasnt admiring her. She was trying to figure out why she was staring at her sister.
She noticed the little things that felt out of place.
You ask why would yhe friend turn his back on Jin Qi. maybe you find it hard because you consider him his friend. He was never his friend. He and his sister were opportunists. Them both being of low status and living among a high status family triggered their jealousy and greed. Making them easily bought. They were social climbers, status climbers.
The siblings were pawns of Dai Rong and the Zhaos.
To me, that spoke to their greed and ambition.
i thought it was fine. its a side story. Maybe due to time restrictions they didnt go into full detail. but there are more side stories to come and it can't give a deep dive in to all of them.
but all the dots connected for me. i followed Xiu Ru's path
