I am totally watching this for Dilraba bc I adored her in eternal love. I am interested to see Zhang Vin's character as well maybe since he is a main his character will be more interesting (he's very attractive but come on, in these dramas it is almost a requirement to be pretty for all characters, regardless of gender so I don't notice it as much as say, an American show where guys have a much lower bar in terms of looks)

I agree. I used to prefer kdramas but now lean towards ancient fantasy c-dramas and I found the show to be extremely dull. I can handle a show with little action in it, that is driven solely by the romantic plot but this just disappointed me.

and I liked BQ/YH together but there romance stalled for me sometimes (and I know a lot of people will hate me for this) but I really, really wish that they hadn't included A-Li. I liked him in the novels but in the show it was just too...cheesy. It took away from the drama of the show, and maybe they wanted that but I, sadly, did not want some little kid, no matter how cute, interrupting. I also don't like the syrupy cute voice of most child actors...ironic maybe since I like FJ so much...

I agree when you say that he does look a bit older in the show (compared to the novel) however I think Vengo's ability to channel DH is much better because of his amazing ability to act with his eyes and excellent use of body language (DH in the novel's emotions almost 100% can only be read through his eyes and a little through his behavior. FJ I suppose can understand him so well bc of the amount of time she has spent by his side, probably the only person alive that he has ever cared about). I think Dilmurat did a good job because she is portraying a very young, childish FJ (she changes over time although DH is especially adept at triggering her and poking until she does something dumb). I can understand why their portrayal is polarizing because she is assuming a character type that is generally not very well liked (an immature, impulsive airhead) and he is playing, well...a rock. I can only say I'm sorry you don't like their portrayals but glad it hasn't stopped you from supporting their pairing :)

dramafever (pay = no commercials, don't pay, many commercials), youtube, viki, or kissasia (my favorite because of sheer quantity however dramafever has the best quality, hands down)

I think the lead actress did an excellent job of gaining the viewer's empathy--when she cried, I cried, when she laughed, I laughed, and when she wanted to destroy Bai Zi Hua I was wondering 'well what are you waiting for?' While Bai Zi Hua succeeded in making me hate him for most of the series not because he had to be celibate but because of his out and out selfish behavior to not let her go even though he had no plan of ever fulfilling her wishes.

awww I love these two actors together! I even checked to see if they were dating secretly/in real life which made me feel like a stalker (I have never done that before). Tell me what you think of the novel; I think that the liberties the show took with their storyline may impact whether or not they actually make pillow book simply because they messed with some significant events and also...I do have one question: do you find FJ's antics laugh out loud funny? I mean she has arguably the worse luck in the world (def. born under an unlucky star) and I think the fact that she is unrestrained and extremely...or should I say possesses a unique kind of intelligence...makes her a prime target for DH who especially enjoys toying with others just to see how they react which paves the way for his interest developing. DH is kind of mean. Scratch that. He is an out and out cruel person, mainly because his cruelty most of the time stems from not caring at all about how his actions impact others. As they say in the novel, a murder could right outside his door and he wouldn't even poke his head outside to help/see what is happening. That's how indifferent he is to others.

Best opening song ever. Also my fave Xanxia. I would say Eternal Love is a close second but maybe because I saw this one first more I like it more or maybe I just like extremely unlikely character pairings.

After finishing pillow book I read that her next novel is actually supposed to be about MY and I think his love interest is an ancient demon queen....

I think Bazi Zi Hua is arguably one of the most contemptible male characters ever made. That said...I still enjoyed the drama and the romance. I wonder what that says about me LOL

silvermcv is right there FJ is not his student but in terms of personality, I think the female lead for most of the show is extremely adorable and cute (like FJ). I like BQ's character a lot but she always presented as quieter, more understated, much more direct and confident (almost like a man probably because she had to live as a man for so long; but don't get me wrong she is an extremely feminine and elegant person. but compared to other women in the show her temperament seems unique and stands out). But in the true essence of forbidden-ness, then yes it would be like BQ (as a student) winding up with MY but I think Bai Zu Hua's personality is closer to MY while Bones is closer to FJ (of course this changes towards the end of the series but I don't want to spoil it.

My BF told me that for a few years China's censorship laws were relaxed but the current leading body has enforced these rules more strictly, I think because there was a fear that things were becoming more liberal and that their might be challenges to the powers that be; as a result they have been even more strict on things like intimacy for 'moral reasons' unfortunately the people are (like us) extremely unhappy with this. However in eternal love I have seen far more intimate scenes then other dramas in recent years so maybe they are relaxing the rules a bit?

I disagree with silvermcv; I would say it would be more Fengjiu falling in love with Mo Yuan.
