I didn’t like how they made it so that Ji Hun had actually been in love with him the entire time too. I wanted to see a story where Ji Hun falls in love with him as the story progresses (which is actually the more cliché and common route, so maybe they were trying to avoid it?) It just makes it feel like all that Do Bawu went through was in vain – so much so that I became kind of pissed. I loved their two characters. They were the epitome of opposites attract, and I personally loved Ji Hun’s obliviousness – it was totally in character and it was so charming. I also loved Do Bawu’s character just because I could so very much relate to him. The feeling of hopeless love that’s transformed into feelings of helplessness and self hate for loving someone he “shouldn’t” love, and the more he tries to push Ji Hun away, the harder he clings. He’s, in some ways, trying to protect the sanctity of their friendship and Ji Hun isn’t letting him. He’s trying to make their separation painless – like pulling off a bandaid, but Ji Hun is dragging out something that Dawu sees as inevitable and it’s like getting stabbed in the gut over and over again. Then Hamin’s ideas come along and he’s in for a rollercoaster of high hopes to dashed dreams multiple times over a series of episodes. It’s one of the most beautifully angsty dramas out there, and it’s so real. I’m suffering right alongside Dawu, and falling in love with Ji Hun over and over again.

I actually really liked this drama. I want to give a shout out to what I felt like there was incredible acting and a heart wrenching, but very lovable storyline. I only had one complaint (see comment), and I feel like some people may have actually liked that aspect of the story.

I want to put a comment out there from a prolific drama watcher and BL drama watcher, specifically, to say this is one of the best BL I've watched. Killer acting, good story, incredible acting, a cute story, perfect acting, utterly fantastic chemistry, did I already say how good the acting was? Please watch it and let your brain forget that it's a vertical film. They're not going away, they're only going to become more common no matter how many negative reviews we leave, so just give the actors and directors and crew their worth and enjoy the show.

Isn't the main actress from Taiwan? I watched a Taiwanese show she was in. Do actors/actresses act in movies/shows from both countries regularly? Also, is there a place to watch this?

How did I never know about this drama! It's so good! (so far). I was holding out on giving my opinion because I love this genre of drama, so I have high expectations, but green flags all around. Hope it and Guang Xi keep up the good work.

Though they handled the issue of domestic violence slightly better later on. At least they acknowledged that forgiveness and love probably won't stop him beating her. I thought they were going to end it with just the spirit exorcism.

Second episode:
"Even if Korn actually hurt his wife, it's none of our business, right?"
Uh, no, main character dude. Just no. You try getting beaten up every day with no way out and then see how you feel. If you can even get your measly brain around that.

Yes, maybe I should stop watching 18+ shows. I know that was one of the original intentions of BL - for women to explore sexual desires without the very real baggage that gender norms, gendered expectations, and the realities each gender experiences being part of it. I completely understand that desire. It's why I started reading BL. I've loved many Thai and Japanese BL that have had multiple NC scenes (just look at my profile, lol), and I've watched the BL market bloom with anticipation, and there have been many groundbreaking BL with diverse plots. However, it is undeniable that compared to other genres (including straight romance dramas from the same countries), the percentage BL shows with NC scenes, and highly explicit NC scenes at that, is really high. And while the number of BL has increased, the number of low quality BL is also blooming, and I mean shallow plots and toxic relationships, not the presence of NC scenes. This includes an increasingly high disregard for consent.

As a queer person, I think it's shame and embarrassment that I'm feeling. I feel like our relationship dynamics are being used to become a conduit for highly explicit content, and I imagine a straight homophobe accidentally starting a BL at random and feel destress at the likelihood that they will come across something that only confirms their beliefs about queerness. Catastrophization at its finest, but there's been so little queer representation in the media (and include that with the current state of the world), I can't help but imagine all the ways it could go wrong.
