definitely the produce 101 series if you haven't watched them yet. for korean it starts with produce 101 (ioi),…
i don't think there are any where there are both guys and girls are literally in the same groups, mostly just stuff like mixnine or the unit where there are both guys and girls but not necessarily together. bands also don't get much attention, though there's the show called superband with really incredible bands that compete (only guys).
i think most of the time guys and girls don't mix because they're very very different within the industry. there aren't many co-ed groups that i can think of, mostly because fans get upset when they see their fave guy with a girl or their fave girl with a guy, etc. so they're usually separated by bg or gg :((
coming back to say aib is a plot-driven drama and squid game is a character-driven drama. no need to fight and argue over which is better than the other when they're literally INCOMPARABLE. idk why some of you guys take it so seriously anyway as if saying one is better than the other will change someone's mind lol. just say which you prefer and move on T^T
tbh i don't really like comparing these two because it almost feels unfair to. even though squid game has games that result in death, i don't really like calling it a "death game" compared to aib which are literal death games. squid game is voluntary and entirely about money, not just them being thrown in to fight for their lives. i've seen a lot of people say squid game is worse because the games aren't as good, when the focus of squid game was never on how unique the games were or how clever their solutions were. it was mainly a frame for social commentary and the imbalance of power and wealth caused by social hierarchy. the games don't require you to necessarily be better or stronger or smarter than someone else. some are completely based on luck.
meanwhile, aib is NOT voluntary where they have to rely on their wits or their physical strength to survive. only the best of the best can continue on. it's much more related to friendship, betrayal, and the fun of watching each game's rules unfold. while there are definitely emotional parts in there, i think most of its enjoyment came from the games themselves, not so much the meaning behind the series.
i think it's kind of similar to comparing romance and melodramas together? while some may be both a romance and melo, one doesn't need to be romance to be a melo or need to be melo to be a romance. they're similar and oftentimes paired together, yet distinctly different. you could also say the same for genres like action and thriller or crime and mystery. this is all my own opinion though.
i actually really really love your blog and the comparisons made!!! this comment is mostly because i sometimes get fed up when i see everyone saying one is better over the other, when the only similarity are "death games" (even though one doesn't even focus on them). and again, this is all only my opinion !!!
i've seen people worried about their vocal lineup, but i don't think there's much to worry about tbh. chaehyun and sxt are both main vocal material, and if not, they can still do well without a main vocal. for example, fans were worried about a lack of a main vocal in enhypen, but they manage well and found the type of music they can do well. not every song needs a high note !! they can all sing well regardless. also is there anywhere that said rank 1 is center or are fans assuming that because of the produce rule? genuine question.
Not sure where to ask this so I'll just ask here. I'm looking for singing and/or dancing competitions or shows…
definitely the produce 101 series if you haven't watched them yet. for korean it starts with produce 101 (ioi), then produce 101 s2 (wanna one), then produce 48 (iz*one), and then produce x 101 (x1). however, all the groups have disbanded by now. produce 101 and produce 48 are the female survival shows.
for chinese, you have two main popular ones: youth with you and produce camp (aka chuang). youth with you s2 is the gg season (the9), produce 101 china (aka the original produce camp) created the gg rocket girls, and chuang 2020 made bonbon girls 303. the only ones active rn out of this entire list are the9 and bonbon girls 303, but their content is harder to follow because cpop groups don't usually accommodate for international fans sadly :(( though, i still HIGHLY recommend c-survival shows over k-survival shows because i personally think they show off personality a lot better. however, they are usually longer in runtime.
there are also some different shows such as queendom, the unit, sixteen, mixnine, and idol school. sixteen and idol school are both for specific groups. sixteen created twice and idol school created fromis_9. the unit took members from struggling debuted groups and promoted them together in one group, both male and female. mixnine is also both male and female, but i caution you to watch because the final group was cancelled and it's overall very...male. great stages though. you might recognize a lot of idols from the show. and finally, queendom are many debuted ggs competing (ex: mamamoo, (g)i-dle, aoa, etc). they kinda just compete lmao, there's no real reason.
so yeah definitely check out produce 101, produce 48, youth with you s2, produce 101 china, and chuang 2020 for popular gg survival shows and check out shows like queendom, the unit, sixteen, etc if you're in the mood for something a little different, but still ggs.
Why was it that when you saw their outfits, you immediately thought about that horrible kind of thing? Why are…
because as a gg stan, i've seen girl groups FAR too sexualized in media. for example stellar who were uncomfortable with sexy concepts, yet had to for their company and in order to stay in the group. the saddest thing being they were KNOWN for their sexy concept. these are VERY young girls, many minors and yet they're forced to wear such short outfits. there's virtually no reason to dress them like that. they know what they're doing when they give shen xiao ting a dress that barely even reaches her thigh. while in her case it's fine if she's okay with it, i cannot say the same for the underaged girls on the show. when i see their outfits, i immediately think about that because i see it way way too much in the industry. i'm glad if you don't see it, but it's sadly super prevalent for ggs.
as for the songs well they're quite literally sexual songs so...
i'm really wondering how kepler will turn out. i haven't seen most of them interact or work with each other so i'm hoping it all turns out well. it's weird because some members i cannot picture doing cute at all and some members i cannot picture doing dark at all. i'm sure they'll be able to find the concept that works for all of them though
oh my god, as i'm rewatching they actually sexualized the girls SO MUCH?!?!?! just LOOK at how short their practice shorts are. not to mention their actual stage outfits (snake?!?!?!) and some of the songs they had to sing (ice cream?!?!! my house?!?!). most of these girls are minors too
okay so i do think bahiyyih is talented, but if you unbiasedly put her next to other girls like suyeon, rui qi, shana, ya ning, bora, yurina, can you honestly say she's more skilled than them? more deserving? even girls like hikaru, xiao ting, dayeon, youngeun, yeseo, mashiro, etc. objectively, speaking, i really can't say she does. that doesn't mean she deserves any hate though, esp for votes that were out of her control. but since it's all said and done now, the only thing we can do is support her and the rest of the girls.
Can You tell me the ending??FL marries another guy??
yeah fml marries another guy and ml dies, but there's a twist in that the fml knew ml was sick all along, she just went along with his plan to fulfill his last wish and make him happy (and not worried for her) T^T WATERWORKS
Four words: "WHO CARES? MOVE ON." Either continue supporting him or don't. Debating it or arguing isn't going to change anyone's mind and it's not like any fan should be involved in the first place. Those defending Seonho have their point and those defending the woman have their point. In the end...it really doesn't matter!!! What matters is if the two parties involved resolve the situation privately and they have already. So time to move on, guys! Either support him or don't. I think we all have much more important things in our lives and in the world to worry about than this ://
Honestly, I don't know how I feel. The plot was good but i wouldn't say I loved it. I still don't understand which…
the plot twist that the main guy who everyone thought was the victim was actually the murderer? LMAO. and the whole revelation that the room he was terrified of was actually the murder scene. i definitely wasn't expecting such a twist tbh and i don't think they gave many hints to foreshadow such a major twist which is why i think it gets most people. maybe you already predicted it early while watching?
i think most of the time guys and girls don't mix because they're very very different within the industry. there aren't many co-ed groups that i can think of, mostly because fans get upset when they see their fave guy with a girl or their fave girl with a guy, etc. so they're usually separated by bg or gg :((
