;-pI hear you and agree with you .. I had SO MUCH beef with the ending .. BUT I was SO mesmerised by the story…
Was SO happy to see that you watched it though.
Honestly I'll admit here that this Scent of Time AND SOKP (Story of Running Palace) DAMAGED me too much .. I couldn't get a kick out of TPR (The Princess Royal).
Next to these two it felt weak and structureless - watery; inspite of have ZLH. Jin Mai started off well but became more and more flat and uninteresting ..
Zhou Ye and Bai Lou hit their roles out of the park
I hear you and agree with you .. I had SO MUCH beef with the ending ..
BUT I was SO mesmerised by the story and the characters (OST was top notch) and the slow burn (on the side burner romance) and JUST the ENTIRE concept behind the structure ..
Blew me away ..
I actually ended up rewatching it twice more ;-p With greater attention to all the dynamics of power - relationships - romance - lies - deceptions - trickery etc.
Loved it more each time :-D
BUT YESSS what you said - why not take the ending in your hands and give it that ONE BANG which would make me give it a 11/10 ;-p
I didnt know it's changed a lot from the novel. Truly a shame. It felt like they ran out of Film / storage - forgot to shoot the end and the actors had all moved on ... basically some production disaster struck and they left it hanging that way.
I forced my mind to call it a 'poetic licence end'
9/10. Would have been 10/10, but Chinese drama makers don't know how to stick the ending. In one case the sad…
💯💯💯true!!!
This nonsense ending was irritating for me in Scent of Time too. I mean I loved it so so so much that I decided to take it as it was.. Even though I was left beggared
Form a business point of view it's a complete hit and a motivating drama but romance point it's messed up male…
You'll enjoy ABAY (As Beautiful As You). Here the ML "acts" tough but "carries" her dreams and goals and supports her and she slurps it up. Which is usually the traditional business romance story set up for FL-ML.
Personally I enjoyed RWTW way more because the FL was made of "iron"; had the smarts, the business acumen and self confidence to draw from her own resources and terrible failures .. She cleverly and assiduously avoided the ML's "help".. Even AFTER they were seeing each other.
She NEVER acted pitiable..
ABAY started STRONG.. And I was expecting a similar dynamic.. But it dissolved into the "template" we are used to.. The FL is effective ONLY when the ML moves gears from the back.
And what can I say of the skinship - was ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
And ABSOLUTELY not gratuitous!!! So important to show it this way because he though 17 is a devastatingly handsome and MATURE man-boy - disarmingly boyish and lost at times.. And he's boiling in a pot of hormones.. The woman is single and seems not to have been in a relationship is pulled into they charm vortex of his.. and into a deeply protective stance..
They made no big shindig bones around their attraction to each other inspite of the societal taboos..
Her speech to him when he has the accident is ambivalent.. She has taken a decision to cherish him - it could be as a brother or as a friend.. To infer that she wants to have a sexual relationship with him in future IS a mistake IMO.
It means she won't neglect him or ignore him and cut him off from her life.
I mean I agree the story genre keeps switching a lot 🤣🤣😂
But still it's well done.. It starts off as a slice of life school drama of a troubled kid and an excellent mature and wise teacher; moves into a Melo (not Makjang level melo though) mode; then moulds itself like a thriller with a whodunnit feel 🤣😂🤣
BUT I couldn't take my eyes off. And it's because even though the genre was changing - it was crafting the story in that format really well. And for me the BIGGEST plus was the formidable acting skill of ALL the main actors AND EVEN supporting cast. There wasn't a missed beat.
Just one bonk to the head and ALL her memory is gone!! Like this is the assassin (who felled an experienced general) character - a regular small time thief bonks her on the head with a stick and she has lost all her experiences and memory of people.
Then after that traumatic loss she is walking around a city all big smiles, chilling like it's Sunday market - nary a spot of anxiety or fear..she has a bad cut but its not stained her clothes and then she manages to hide under the emperor's dining table in a high security venue.. With a grinning emperor who is so cool and amused by this character reaching for the sweets. Not shocked or alalarmed.
What the eff is wrong with this team of buffoons who thought up this show.
The only things that seemed fine in this drama is the actor ML who I did not see before...and the MDL brief which promised a thrill - it's always a thrill when the FL is an assassin and her target is the ML...but defintely not this "below par" drama with not an iota of thought spent on it. UGH!
You spoke my heart!!!
I became an LYX fan after TTEOTM.
Already watched thrice and I am HAPPY to go back again.
It's one of those addictive dramas for me which will stay as my repeat watch for always probably.

Lemme guess..
It was better with the way the ML was written.. and his relationship with the FL??
I've stalled on that drama at 11 or so.
One of my MDL pals with whom I have incredible Drama - vibe enjoyed it thoroughly.. So I might resume ASAP.
😝😝😝
Hey come back tell me more.
Love revisiting dramas with others.

I sure will.
I am at the moment culling my to watch list by playing 1 st eps of shows
Thats a very good drama rating in my book.
That doesn't matter.
We all have our own individual reactions to dramas.. None of us will have identical or even similar ratings for so many dramas.
Sometimes my dropped will be your 10 /10 and vice versa 😂😂😂
And often we will have the same high or same low.
And in both situations we will have enough to discuss and share our responses.
The brief is well written.
So often MDL briefs are poorly written.. Even the whole outline given away..
Aigoo.. So awful.
Anyway I'm putting it on PTW.
Am curious now 😝
Can you tell me the date roughly?
Or repost it? I'd love to read it.
Can DM me also
Somehow the ones I watched I couldn't take a shine to.
Their dramas seem very "mild" and their FL characters too soft and gentle and sometimes passive-type for my taste 😝
Their actors are damn good looking though. And some actresses too.
I find more blood and passion and interest in the newly released "Shogun".
I plan to watch that - not Asian Drama though ( on Prime I think). Really well done. I checked out 2 eps.
Want to do at leisure when I am more able to focus.
And ABSOLUTELY not gratuitous!!!

DROPPING.
Such super actors and story and characters
