What has he done?Their friends donot want to rewrite the code how was it his problem? And why should he care for…
I know he gave them some feedback before the presentation but it really wasn't adequate and just because they didn't change it didn't justify him going and embarrassing them like that in my opinion. BUT the ML thinking he's right and standing by that fact (even though I think he was a total dick) I can respect to a certain extent. If that's just the way he is then that's his character and that's fine! It's how the FL and everyone else (including the audience) accepts this "lesson" he's teaching them. He's not some god and they're not children so I don't understand why they accept being treated like crap. And everyone in the comments who keep taking his side really don't make sense to me. I said in my other comment that if it were flipped and Gao was the ML, everyone would be on his side because LX really was being a jerk. But because LX is the ML, any critique aimed at him is discarded. That's what really annoyed me!
I really do not need the ML to be a "nice" guy, that wasn't my point, but I can see how my initial post portrays that.
I've also decided to keep watching to see if my opinion changes because I was enjoying it quite a lot before ep 7!

I literally said I enjoy morally grey characters, that isn't the issue and if you read my comment above then you would already know that. Goodbye My Princess, Innocent Man, and so many others have antiheroes but those dramas don't gloss over their bad actions, that's the difference.
This is a place to discuss dramas and opinions on said dramas. Stooping to condescension isn't productive so I honestly don't even know why you're responding when the only input you're giving is "omg it's a drama calm down, it's in the synopsis so no critique is allowed, watch something else".

That's such a weak argument. His behavior can't be criticized simply because he has character development later on? He still did it and the female lead and the audience excuse his behavior before any of this supposed development even occurs. A viewer shouldn't have to "read the synopsis" in order to have an opinion on a character and their actions.
And I don't need a character to be a 100% golden boy never does wrong type of person. Morally grey characters are very interesting, I like them! The difference here is that everyone is acting like his shitty actions weren't shitty! It's all being glossed over and the blame is being put on Gao and ZY for not "listening" to him like the ML is some all-knowing godly genius and they're stupid children. If it were acknowledged in some way that what he did was wrong then I wouldn't have this complaint. But both the audience and the FL just accepted his behavior as "right" and the others as "wrong" just because he's the male lead. It's annoying, I hate that. He was being a jerk, and that's okay! But I don't like that he's being painted as the one who did nothing wrong.
I don't know much about Angelababy but Song Weilong was pretty stiff in Go Ahead not gonna lie. He got outshined…
They're both not great. They both have to rely on their costars to convey emotional depth in their scenes, I honestly don't know why they would pair these two up.

It's called common human decency. They all spent a lot of time on that project when he knew very well that their work wasn't good enough. He should have told them he was doing one on his own and let them know beforehand that he was going to present a different one. You're defending shitty behavior simply because he's the male lead. If Gao were the ML everyone would be pissed at LX.
Wudai and the human emperor were my favorites. The episode where they were trying to steal that vase thing had me crying laughing, Xia Minghao is hilarious.
And just like that at episode 7 I am done with this drama. The ML is a jerk. I see so many of you justifying his actions in the comments and it's honestly ridiculous. He let his friends go and embarrass themselves when he knew their work wasn't appropriate for the project. "Teaching them a lesson" is such an asshole method when he could have just had an adult conversation with them. And the FL's complete approval of his actions pisses me off more. I literally cannot root for this couple. I'm so annoyed by both of them, which is a shame because I was enjoying this before that.
Edit: It's not JUST because he's a jerk that I'm annoyed. It's that his actions were glossed over and he was painted as the good guy in a situation where he clearly wasn't. The FL and others in the drama accepting him treating them like crap and praising him instead makes it difficult to care about any of these characters. I dropped it, it's clearly not my kind of drama.
I totally respect your opinion! I had similar thoughts when I was around ep 7 but as I had nothing else to do,…
Did it get any better? I just finished episode 7 and feel exactly like you did. ML was such a disrespectful douche to his "friends" and the FL didn't find anything wrong with his behavior. It annoyed me so much, I have literally no interest in watching it anymore.
Awful FL. Not the actress, she was fine. The character was terrible. Zero passion, zero goals in life besides the male lead. Literally he was the only thing she cared about. She only "discovers" her passion when she is literally forced to BY HIM. She was calm and not an obnoxious idiot like Kotoko from Itazura na Kiss, but she is essentially the same kind of character. I hate it, I thought we were past that.
I really liked it. I gave it an 8, but would have rated it even higher if it weren't for what I put in the spoiler…
Secret childhood connections are my number one pet peeve in dramaland. Luckily the leads built a strong connection throughout the show and they didn't completely rely on that to build their relationship but STILL I HATE IT. Alas, it knocked off a little bit of my rating. Still a really nice show though. I recommend it.
Do you mean Dylan Wang? In what world is six years a huge age gap at their ages? I'm tired of people infantilizing…
I was just talking about how you said that Yang Zi and Dylan Wang have a huge age gap. I don't think 6 years is a big gap at all at their ages. As for if they fit together as the leads I don't have much to say. They would probably be fine
I'm still in awe that they really cast HIM out of all the people out there 😭 a man with very little acting…
Oof and remember when there was all of that controversy over who deserved top billing despite the fact that Yang Zi has been in the industry for twenty fucking years but he still got it. Made me so mad.
You shouldn't let rating determine the drama as the overall. Everyone is different in liking or accepting something.
Obviously not everything but it's not just idol dramas that are overrated unfortunately. This site is just inflated to hell. I definitely agree about dramas with actual adult actors being underrated though. All is Well is probably my favorite modern Chinese drama and it's sitting at an 8.2 rating. And that is a good rating but based on this site's standards it should be much higher imo.

Honestly same. Discovery of Romance is rated low (at least for MDL standards) and it ended up being one of my favorites from last year. Whereas a few dramas that were rated 8.5+ I hated so, everyone has different tastes lol. I hope to be pleasantly surprised with Chong Zi.
