It genuinely surprises me when people say they didn’t see Chen Yan Yun’s love for Jin Zhao or that it came…
I remember people after the first episode saying so much neg about Ci Sha.. Come on.. give him a chance. This is his first drama as ML, first kissing scenes, all new to him.. now that i finished I feel he set a standard many of the idol stars cannot meet.... there is absolutely no exaggeration in his acting. The way he acted, walked, carried himself like a mature dignified official seriously made him look older.
RenMin. The first time when she took the lantern, she was so angry with her father, all her focus was in destroying the gifts, so didn't notice the person with the lantern at all.. but the second time when she came with her cousin and saw him, she just couldn't take her eyes off him... stood there and stared with admiration and deep reverence, everything else in the room fades into background noise and even after introduction, Yao literally dragged her out of there.. he was intrigued by her actions.. burning stuff as well as playfulness with her cousin... also he wanted to see if she remembers... he was more serious and dignified, both were attracted but not aware of what or how. She knows CYY was this dignified official with authority, Ji Family worked / served them, not attainable, but you can see she always had high regard for him....
Ye Xian's was a complex character and Winwin did a brilliant job, but him and GJZ were more like best friends... both will do anything to save each other's life. He is more like a child with one toy and someone took it away...
IMO I think Ye Xian looked at CYY as someone he admired but he can never be like him due to his health condition, so every time he see GJZ with CYY, he used to go crazy... at the same time he always trusted CYY... and CYY on the other hand wanted YX to get serious and save his father.. whom CYY regarded highly... he treated him like a spoiled kid bro...

Even I was thinking.. its better to voice personalized opinions in the comments, so everyone can discuss on it... and try to understand. Each actors are doing a job, portraying a character as per the story and the director. Its not Winwin who got up and whipped Renmin.
When we write a review, what we believe to be excellent, what we believe to be crap, they are all part of you, in fact it defines your understanding. Its not easy not to be biased towards some actors you like .. But you need to get a grip on yourself by analyzing, are u upset with the character or actor, did the actor performed poorly or the character was mean and horrible...? Actually JinZhao and Ye Xin have same temperament, she thinks and he is reckless. She was send away from the time she was born and he was poisoned in the name of treatment by his own master to have a footing in the Maquis household. But the difference is she was very well brought up by her grandmother, whereas he was neglected and ridiculed by everyone even his parents.
Eventhough their bickering brought a lot of excitement to their scenes together... scene leading upto Whipping was written poorly, she could easily say there and then, my brother send him, even that guy could say, but they were just exaggerating it till the whipping. maybe to make it hard to see him as a romantic prospect. Actually this is my first drama of Winwin and I feel he did that complex character brilliantly... !!!
Upto episode 38, this drama was done so brilliantly. At least respect the hard work of everyone. I was watching the making and saw an interview of Gala Zhang saying, the scene where he came riding in the rain at night to propose to Gu JinZhao was written in the script in one line, riding upto JZ's house, so he thought its a simple horse riding shot. But the actual one took 2 or 3 hours and when he saw the effects, he said he couldn't believe how good it looks.

He did such a good acting, but sad he was not given his due by not mentioning him in the cast list. But then so many times, they mess this up... putting wrong actors.

I know everyone was complaining about the ending...is rushed. Yes it was rushed and there were many loose ends.. No proper ending for many characters...

I really liked the drama... for Ci Sha, RenMin and Winwin.... three of them did their part very convincingly... and brilliantly, CYY's portrayal of serious official and loving tenderness to his wife.. was commendable.. so was Winwin's rebellious nature due to growing up being ridiculed as worthless son of Marquis, never be able to carry the Marquis title due to his sickness..
BUT CYY's master's (Wu Gang) ending was so unfitting, just frantically running to his wife..... is that alll?? Now his wife.... Last scene she is holding a sword and saying...she was the true mastermind behind the Chunyuan Cult. WTH.... then what happened?? my God.. Grand Chancellor and wife ( Li Yuan) didn't get a fitting end.. for all the crimes they committed..

Eventhough there is politics... the main attraction is The love story of the main leads, which is very beautiful. Their love and trust make the show worth watching. two SMLs are there... no second couple who will stand out...

I always felt, Li Xianhuai was too caring about Ye Xian.. he was heartbroken when he see his emotional outburts.. b'coz only he was seen the trauma Ye Xian goes through I think everyone did a good job...

Gong Jue Rui / Jerry Gong was outstanding as the emperor. He never once made you feel that he was too young for the role. At just 11 years old, acting alongside so many veteran actors, he carried himself fearlessly, and his dialogue delivery was absolutely impressive. Such a talented young actor!
I still remember watching him in his very first drama, The Sword and the Brocade. He was so tiny back then, playing the little boy who was poisoned by the concubines. Seeing how much he has grown as an actor is amazing. He is definitely going to become an incredible actor in the future.
