the hate Masami and Okudaira is getting for their characters in this film is so amusing, lol.
• Masami Nagasawa awarded 'Best Leading Actress' and Japan Academy Film Prize for 'Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role'
• Okudaira Daiken awarded 4 Best Newcomer Awards for his performance in MOTHER; at 44th Japan Academy Prize, the 63rd Blue Ribbon Awards, the 94th Kinema Junpo, and the 30th Japan Critics Awards
When someone can make you absolutely convinced of a villain/terrible character they play, that is displaying their skill in acting. You can dislike the roles, hate the characters, that's justified, but that doesn't mean they were wasted on the role. Imagine shitty/2D actors playing villains. You'd not be able to take them seriously and it would take a whole dimension out of the story as well.
People who think of villains/shitty characters as being a waste of skill/talent/time for good actors clearly do not understand well-written characters or even acting. Anyone who think actors playing a villain is equal to them being bad (personality-wise or career-wise), shouldn't be allowed to watch any works of fiction ever. They're actors, they're supposed to ACT. PORTRAY CHARACTERS. Would you want to watch your favorite actors stay in one mold forever and basically play the same character over and over again and never work on their craft as an actor?
sorry but Satomi acting wise is leagues above Kasumi, imo lol.
Yeah I can recommend to you if you'd like to see her best acting in her projects. From her dramas to her films to her specials to her stage plays, works that veterans of the industry praise 💯
Japanese dramas surely are weird(not all), but not in a way that's creepy or uncomfortable (not all) but rather…
Their shows and films explore all sorts of themes and thought-provoking stories. It's the lack of fear of tackling serious and heavy subjects in their stories is one of the many reasons why I've always appreciated jdramas more. There's uniqueness in their stories that counterparts from other countries wouldn't try to cover.
Fun fact, Ishihara Satomi mentioned that the majority of the staff/crew behind this drama mainly consists of women and there are many lines that deeply represent women in the society if you pay attention.
THIRTY TWO episodes of ML saying hallelujah chance and going back to the future? I can appreciate they play the same iconic BGM from Proposal Daisakusen though <3
No idea why she rarely ever gets any main roles. So underrated (despite being more popular than some actresses getting main roles), hoping she gets the recognition she deserves soon~
edit: the mio fan in me is pleased with today's announcement <3
I don't exactly know what to get out of this drama, it left me feeling dreadful and empty. It's one of those heavy dramas that makes you feel miserable watching it because it's honestly depressing and everything is just disheartening. There's no characters to root for in this and the drama really just does revolve around figuring out who this one character really is.
At times, I find myself questioning what is the writer thinking when he's writing the story and what message is he trying to convey to us viewers because personally, as a viewer, I'm left wondering what am I supposed to be getting after watching this drama, especially after the last episode where the story just leaves you wondering what was all of that for after going through the story and after watching the culmination of everything. But the story does keeps you intrigued for the truth and makes you wonder who Ritsuko really is as a person and the kind of life she lived.
Matsumoto Marika's great performance carries this drama through and through, she did an amazing job portraying this complex, mysterious character and her acting keeps you invested and mesmerized seeing her play this character on screen and the rest of the cast also were all generally solid with the exception of Kakizawa Hayato, I can't tell if it's the acting or his character but I personally can't tell what he's thinking or feeling at times. The cinematography is just as great, as expected from a WOWOW drama after all. There's no memorable music here nor do I think does this kind of drama really needs to have any but that one shamisen riff definitely is one that you'll immediately be familiar with whenever it's played in the background.
All in all, I found it to be a good watch, surprised to hear this drama kinda flew under the radar during its airing, but it kinda makes sense considering the amount of star-studded, popular spring dramas at the time so there were lots of competition there. I still have no idea what exactly I'm supposed to be getting from this story but I would recommend it. Do watch 2-3 episodes and see if it's for you.
