I find those two an intriquing pair. They would totally dominate if they became friends

That aunt just told the older sis to suck it up and endure the abuse. 2nd sis' saving grace moment is getting fl's help. fl is so darn smart. Who knew that was one of the way to inform ml of his sis' abuse. I find ml very charming and charasmatic when he's angry and serious. Sure it's amusing when he's all clingy and cute to fl, but I still prefer him to be ruthless.

What kinda effing law that an abused wife/concubine that ends her life will not go punished by the husband. WTF!?

Brilliantly written! 2nd sis basically answered others and my question on why ml is so smart and capable but his dad and uncle aren't. Instead, his dad and uncle are foolish and short sighted. Turns out old master was in the capital and left his sons to be raised by their mom. However, their mom is equally useless, short sighted and foolish...being raised by this type of parent heh, how successful can the children be? So ml, was raised by old master, thus all teachings, mind games and philosphy are from old master personally.

2nd madam/aunt is useless. She's a spineless tatertott that only follows ml's mom. She's selfish and stupid. That aunt gave me brain erosion. I will never survive if I timetravel in any Chinese period

I think fl will eventually find out herself when she sees that fan ml took from that brothel mama. It has her butterly painting.

Today's ep 31 and 32 are bawlers as well. This drama is just so special and meaningful.

I expected Jier to say from now one the only person that treats her the best would be fl, but she said herself. I was surpised, it was unexpected. Honestly, if you don't respect your own self worth, love yourself, then why would anyone else respect and love you.

The play fl wrote is phenomenal. Very touching.

Politics is like weather, it can be unpredictable. the morning is all bright and sunny, then afternoon is hail freezing rain. The king may favour ml now, but doesn't mean the king won't see him as a threat. The king can also use and favour ml as a loyal subject since he may need support on the new throne, however it doesn't mean the king won't be wary of ml as well. We can see ml is not as loyal to the king as he seems. He did save the deposed king. It shows he acts on his desire, and sometimes doesn't think of the risks

Definitely not as simple as it seem on the surface. Lin family is on the rise. Ml saved crown prince(current new king) and helped him ascend to the throne. Her merit is the biggest and he could’ve asked for anything. High position, prob even a marquis position and the king would give. But he asked king for royal decree for marriage. That’s such a smart move. If an official becomes too capable and powerful, earning too many merits and too quickly, the king will start to become wary and then suspicion and distrust arises. So by ml having asked for marriage instead, it shows he’s a love sick boy. That he also has a weakness.

The king wanting him to station in the capital to keep a closer eye on him. Basically to hold him hostage, bc when he’s in jianling, it’s harder to spy on him since he’s thousands of miles away from the capital. But, once he’s in the capital, he’s under the king’s eye. By having ml’s siblings/cousins tag along it shows ml not having a rebellious heart and not aware of the king’s mind. That’s also why his grandpa said to be careful and that he wants the other grandkids to survive. Bc ml is also putting his siblings/cousins at risk.

I totally agree! She never had a chance to process or overcome her past trauma. She basically sealed it and tried to forget it in some sense. She’s a strong person, thanks to how her parents and grandpa raised her and then Xu couple giving her love and support. Even though she’s down in her luck (lightly saying this), she always had people in her life to love, support and understand her.

At first I thought she didn't want to go to the capital bc she didn't want to be with ml, but it was bc her Shen family's main home was in the capital, and it brought back horrific memories. To make matters worse, they are now living in her old home, memories of that day resurface, she lost everything that day, the house that her family ended their life. She has to live there with another identity. It's just too cruel. I cried when she cried. Seven is a really great actress, she portray her crying scenes differently

In modern eyes, he was a rapist, an abuser that slapped fl, manipulator, selfish, disregarded fl's wishes and consent. Forces himself on her a lot. The list goes on, but he changes in the end when he falls in love with her (typical). The saving grace the how the literacy is written. Many readers said if the author wasn't so beautiful with her words they wouldn't have accepted ml. So they really toned it down in the drama.

She thought duke's daughter had the status, and with being raised in palace by the old consort, her education, etiquette and intelligence would be comparable to a princess. So duke's daughter's reputation is more prestige. She forgot palace people are ruthless, in order to survive they are snakes.

There was a comment " I only see fl's reluctance meant nothing in the ml's eyes; she doesn't even have the freedom to choose or the strength to resist, left entirely at his mercy. Anyone who tries to imagine living such a life would shudder". This really resonated the novel of how fl had to go through, and much much worse. This drama is PG compared to the novel.

Han scholar would be going to the capital for the exam

He would be gone for 2-3years in the Capital, didn't want her to live with the in-laws and be ostracized and disrespected. They would be more relaxed, less restriction and rules since all the elders won't be there, he would technically be the boss of the entourage, since he's the oldest and with a court official position. He wants to have this chance to become closer to her. By separation, their relationship will not develop further.

it was mentioned she was sold in the previous eps. Her family was poor and saw her as a commodity that can be sold for money. Plain and simple. Since the product was returned to them without needing a refund, they took a chance and resold it for extra change.
