I keep hearing people say ss isn't as photogenic and that she's much more prettier and facial features are more detailed in person. A fist size face and big round eyes, with warm aura
The average viewing stats were very respectable and consistent throughout its airing. It could be regarded a success…
I saw a comment recently, it was from a Chinese comment that mentioned people criticizing actresses in their 30s shouldn't act younger roles (even though they phsyically can pull the part of 20 something-asians look young), is same with real life where women in their 35 are in awkward position where if you quick your job, many may not hire you bc of your age, no matter how much experience you have, they would rather hire a younger person. It's just ageism with a sprinkle of sexism.

With just half the proper promotion that other dramas had, TUS would've definitely blown up.
You're right, MDL/intl viewers are much different than Chinese viewers. What Intl viewers think XY or the actress to be annoying, childish, weak etc, Chinese viewers all complimented that the actress brought XY to life with her spirit and charm, that she's and XY was very lively, michevious, and playful. I've looked at many many comments and reviews, even antis, on douyin, red book, and weibo. They all mentioned this, and not once did they mention that fl was childish or annoying. Some would mention the plot or editing like the quick love HY felt for XY in the beginning. But they would also say the actress was lively, mischevious etc
Now that you brought up the different perspective, I kind of understand now. I realized not many hollywood have these type of characters, actually I don't think they did at all, not even portrayal of children or teen. I've been exposed to both western and Chinese shows so I've never really realized it. Then I'm not going to bother to explain or try to have them see what I see. There's no point. It's great that ss gets exposed intl, but for me at least, what's most important is what the local Chinese think of ss' acting skills and how they think ss portrayed xy, and it's all compliments so that's all I need as confirmation.
Iqiyi isn't bankrupt, a production company of some sort under Iqiyi went bankrupt So I'm guessing Iqiyi has a lot of subsidary companies or studios. This particular one was probably the production company that produced TUS. Because it went bankrupt, Iqiyi just dropped the drama, they dind't care anymore and just wanted to have it finish airing. It's a waste of hard work. I feel bad for the director/writer since he spent a decade writing this script, actors and prodution crew spend 5 months filming, and post production was 8months, all to finish airing in 11 days. I find this a disrespect to the director and everyone that spend their effort trying to produce this drama.
Nonetheless, other dramas with much better promotional materials may not even reach what TUS has reached. This drama has officially ended today. SS has a short film coming out on Jan 9, and I'm excited to watch!
This drama is still no 1 tv drama for Jan 6. It’s almost been no 1 since the 2nd day it aired until now. As well HongYe and XiaoYao as no 1/no2 interchangeably as fave characters. TUS as also been no 1 in many other ratings, they have survived and flourished even against all odds. Everything was against this drama: airing at noon on a dead time slot(everyone is at work or school), spreading on 3 platforms, airing 3 eps a day and then Iqiyi releasing express pass so 40eps finish in 11 day, hmh’s other drama also airing same day and an hr earlier, zero promotion (except on hi6 prior to TUS airing). Did I mention the company ( under Iqiyi’s branch) responsible for TUS promotion was bankrupt so this drama is like an abandoned baby, no mom or dad to care or love. Not to mention paid antis started ruining the rep and impression of this drama on day 1 when it aired. But even with all these hurdles TUS still bested all these odds. It’s truly an amazing drama with a lot of thought that went to this.
This drama special effects are phenomenal. The production company spent a large some of expense on the CGI, They hired the company that did Nezha. I swear, No one, not one single person or anti-account have mentioned bad or cheap CGI (intl or in China) Because no one would believe it. Everyone has complimented the CGI. I’ve only seen you and another account here mention.
Gues, TUS did phenomenol given the circumstances, it still toped the charts at no1 with 0 promotions. TUS is coming to an official end very soon, we should applaud the hard work and achievement. Other dramas with much better promo didn't even achieve what TUS received. Let's now focus on SS' new short indie film that's going to release on Jan 9th!!
Sacrificed my sleep to plow all through 8 episodes of TUS. Overall, I'm satisfied with the drama, even though…
Thanks for letting us know, I will make sure to look for her dad in ep 36. I couldn't power through, I'm stuck on ep 35. I hate the express eps, it derails my momentum. I was doing so well, caught up in the eps every day, and now I feel behind. I will ofc still finish but it will def be at a slower pace.
Tengse confessed to white haired XY 999x and was rejected 999x, but they only knew each other for 1000years. So that means he started confessing the 2nd day they met LOOL
We don't have to worry about Against the Current. It's 1 of 3 Tencent's S+ dramas for 2025, and they acquired…
I'm not worried about intl viewers, I meant hate from Chinese viewers, like those paid antis.
Wasn't TUS also an S+ drama? Everything from director, post production, script sounded like a drama Iqiyi would want to promote well. But look what happened sigh
