I actually think Goong is really nuanced with some great themes explored . It set a lot of benchmarks in dramaland that many writers continually borrow from to this day . It does have an annoying start and its definitely too long but absolutely has its charms especially if you are partial to teen romance.
As for cringey old romance - I haven't really made a dent into the sub genre myself except for oldies like My Name is Kim Sam Soon which is my fave but other than that , I have dropped most . Do tell me when you find a good one and I will also tell you when I find a good one.

IMO - his mind was always made up for Chaekyung . But he was CP and had those Joseon manners and perhaps thats why he it looked like he was still entertaining Hyorin but he was clear to people he liked Chaekyung , its just that people disrespected his love towards her
