Competent enough
Filing for Love is a solid office rom-com/drama that does a lot right. Where it really excels is in its cast and fantastic use of supporting characters. Usually, supporting characters are just used as vehicles for the main story to pass through, but here they actually add dimension and dynamism, which I really appreciated.
I also really liked how Filing for Love was constructed. There’s an elegance to the way this drama is put together that feels increasingly lacking in K-dramas these days. The audit and workplace misconduct storylines are interesting, the workplace-as-dating-pool element is amusing, and even the limited slice-of-life moments serve a purpose.
But there’s just… something missing.
I can't quite put my finger on it. Was it the chemistry between the two leads? Was there something slightly disjointed in the overall delivery? I don't know but collectively, it never quite produced that X factor.
It feels like a drama that understood the assignment and executed the brief correctly, but never went beyond the brief.
I also thought the villains were a major weakness. They were painfully one-dimensional. They arrived, caused problems and disappeared. I need more from my villains! Give me some motivation, some pathology, something that makes me understand why they behave the way they do. A genuinely multidimensional villain could have added so much more to the story.
So ultimately, Filing for Love settles somewhere around a 7–7.5/10 for me. It's refreshing, highly watchable and above-average in execution, but it never quite finds that special something that pushes it into great territory.
