The whole arc the best thing was Li Jie's acting. I almost didnt recognize the actors when he was the butterfly demon - styling reminded me of the generation to generation ML. The story and chemistry of Sheguan' master was the best sub plot for me. I really felt for the starstone. Perhaps the biggest misfortune was him meeting that wind demon. Whatever that demon did ended in huge misfortune. Ngl tho I mixed the wind demon (wu Xi think? Who gave the wind power to dragon) with other antagonists like the yuan wuhoo (sorry my brain has registered him as yuan wuhoo but the evil brother iygm)

I thought i was the anomaly because everyone was praising everything. The sub plots I get got out of hand but the crying really took me out. Like in the final arc it totally made sense with ji ling's backstory but they had been having the same crying expressions that it looked like fake tear water droplets flowing down instead. Esp coming from 'in your radiant season' and 'lawless lawyer' where they use frowning, furrowing and lots of muscle expressions and body language. Given this directors high praise i was expecting some sort of standard for it. But he kept all actors crying scenes ditto copy.
This was definitely something. I went in with a blank and the story was initially intriguing but they over used the tears plot so much (its not a cryfest) to the point I finished it and I am numb to the ending. The acting was the better part, camera scenes were disjointed at times but mostly a treat. Plot v so so and predictable. CGi was good too but some cringe moments (the fox cgi heads was so cringe and unnecessary). Side characters dying for the sake of dying was so unnecessary from the beggining to the end that I didnt feel sorry for anyone. I think acting wise the most stand out was 100% Li jie. I didnt get the plot initially and couldn't care less. The story focused too much on one one couple that story development suffered for pretty much everyone else. However, acting made his scenes less skippable until the whole Yuan Wuhoo plot.
Both guys and girls acting was okay, clearly they r young and dont have that much range but together they had enough chemistry to carry the story forward. Esp the older pair. The older sister and her ml had a much more interesting story that crashed and burnt when they climaxed there story sooo early in ep15 with those decades time. My heavy heavy criticism that would make me rate this 7.8 is definitely lack of consistent power dynamics. The foxes r supposed to be this 1000 year spritual masters but they r weakest in the entire story and less shown power wise by side chatacters. In moments of climax, I kept thinking oh older sister will use her power or younger will conjure a shield but one has no screen tjme and other gets saved by her partner pretty much everytime except suddenly at last 7 eps where she gains power. Telling the story retrospectively makes me think its a mary sue moment written specially for her which wouldnt be the case if they walked us through first her struggle instead of explaining at the end. Also, she's so powerful at the end but one slash and she gets thrown on ground by the fake li jie and im like?? Not even on her knees but the portrayal left a bad taste in my mouth. There's a heavy focus on dragons eyes of Shiguang and the eyes r human instead of dragon like at the end. Made me chuckle cz as if they wasted cgi budget on side characters. Instead we get to see cgi effects of a father of some side character who fought Shiguans fake master. It left 0 impression and was so predictable i was facepalming. Story tends to introduce and forget characters consistently le.g. the double flower hunters and how they came to be.
Overall, not a high rewatch value but if you like Chinese fantasy dramas should give it a try. Thr director is definitely average, overated and overhyped. I have seen better directors i.e Blossoms, who aren't abusive to their actors and can deliver their craft well. Upto ep8 is boring and a struggle with only acting making u pull through but it picks up after, and you can finish upto 15 atleast to get the gist if can finish this or not.

Yeah I didnt either but I downloaded it for updates on reba's shaolin movie and got stuck here instead. Their reuters video drop daily snd all new videos too that shock me to the core. I heard Feiyu was sulking at one point due to the eating scene cz reba said she has a stomachache but she kept eating for the scene. The Reuters today showed that and my gosh.
