Sorry I missed this point - “What can he ask more than being with his beloved one?”

I think it was the fact that throughout the drama we saw how WSB always went the extra mile to make sure JYJ’s happiness was the priority number 1. But the problem with most of his choices was that they kept backfiring either on her or it hurt him. For instance, with the way he handled the scandal. He didn’t have to step down from his role. He could have fought for a better solution but he didn’t dare to even risk it because he didn’t want JYJ to lose her chance. This choice in turn almost costed the film.

While it’s romantic in a drama to have your own knight in shining armour, it’s not really healthy in the long run. Specially when he knows that JYJ doesn’t like it when he sacrifices himself to make her happy. She wanted him to live his life for him. To have dreams beyond just serving her. Afterall, even the past 10 years, his only motive was to realize her dream.

That’s the thing. They are 30 but JYJ wasn’t experienced enough to work independantly. While it’s romantic to support eachother, JYJ wasn’t at a position where she could equally support him. She was fortunate enough to win over the crew so they supported her with the technical side but if you want to be a professional you have to be able to at least know the basics.

The breakup was avoidable but then again she only asked for the breakup after WSB kept insisting that he wants to help her even after she said why she didn’t want his help.

I do admit their reunion was too rushed and the writer could have been more sensitive with the way they tackled the 2 year’s silence. If they weren’t planning to then they shouldn’t have shown WSB’s suffering for 2 years straight.🙊

Her approach was harsh but she didn’t have bad intentions.

1/ With the MC, it’s a happy ending but I feel you really need to understand both characters POVs and core objectives to truly appreciate their story.
After they wrapped up the movie, JYJ decides she needs to learn more to be able to work with WSB as an equal so she goes to Canada to study for 2 years. WSB doesn’t take her decision lightly when he finds out and this causes a huge rift between them enough to cause a breakup since WSB couldn’t understand why JYJ couldn’t just continue to lean on him (as seen with some of the disgruntled comments on MDL).
However before she leaves, he finally understands why she’s so desperate (it’s not because she doesn’t love him but because she wanted them to be equals without being too dependent on each other). He supports her wholeheartedly and they end things on a promising note. They do not contact eachother during the 2 years apart. It’sa bit too extreme IMO but I guess the writer’s intention was to highlight the fact that eventhough it’s difficult, WSB respected JYJ’s concerns. She wanted him to live his life for himself too instead of making her his only reason to live/ dream. 2 years later, once JYJ proves herself, she comes back to South Korea and rekindles things with WSB - everything happened a little too fast but I guess since they did have an understanding, it makes sense. They end the drama with a proposal (albeit goofy but in a way that’s very them).

2/ Second Couple - wrapped up nicely with a happy ending. I am not sure where you stopped watching but after the scandal the couple secretly starts to date. They are reportedly happy. The mother isn’t happy that they are together but she probably will not do anything since she finally has a healthy relationship with Ha Na

3/ Third couple - open ended with a hint that they might be together. Sa Rang ends up becoming an author and two meet again after a long time in a book store. They seem to be together because towards the end of the drama (2 year time lapse), In Uk has a call with somebody and the conversation kind of implies he is talking to her eventhough no names are mentioned.

I agree! I feel like this drama originally had more episodes but they had to cut certain scenes to keep it within the 12 episode timeframe.

TBH it really does sound unrealistic that they didn’t communicate at all even at a professional capacity.

I do like the fact that Dream To You pretty much emphasized the fact that it’s not romantic to love a person to the point of sacrificing themselves (like typical MLs) and that they should have a life and dreams outside their relationship.

WSB is a dreamy catch certainly but his devotion was too much. He pretty much bubble wrapped JYJ against her will and was even willing to even take blame for the scandal when he was innocent just because he didn’t want to risk losing JYJ’s dream. He shouldn’t be hurting himself to make his partner happy.

She left to study because she understood she was very far behind and lacked a lot of technical experience even to work with WSB. Even the crew had to go through most of the points with her in detail when they didn’t have to because she was not familiar with the process.

The objective was to study enough and learn to be independent so she can support WSB as an equal instead of leaning on him like how she did in their first project. Once it was clear that WSB would never be able to 100% respect her wish if they are together, she decided to end things. It’s extreme but there were signs. WSB was even willing to leave his directorship to keep JYJ as a director when the scandal was not his fault. While it’s supposed to look romantic, it’s not healthy to be this devoted even at the expense of his happiness.

Cancer was definitely an unnecessary plot line. If they wanted to use this as a way to emphasize the importance of achieving your dreams before it’s too late, they could have at least let him recover later🫠

But the main reason why JYJ left for her higher studies was so she could work as an equal besides WSB? She didn’t want him to wait till she was ready since knowing him, he would have focussed only on her/ unintentionally try to help her which was what she didn’t want.😅

Honestly you are going to end up getting a polarizing answer. Some hate the ending, some find it meh, and some liked it 🙈

The sad points you mentioned are quite brief. The SML’s father was diagnosed with last stage cancer. That’s why they kept showing him drinking pills throughout the drama and looking extra worried before GY got his main role. On the bright side he does get to finally achieve his dream of being a musician as they used one of his songs in GY’s drama. They don’t show his death but it is implied during the time skips.

She wanted him to not to live for her and to find his own path. Right now he is extremely dependant on her (his reasoning is understandable given his past). But pretty much having no other objective/ dream other than serving her happiness is unhealthy too.

Asking him to wait for her essentially negates what she wishes for him.

They didn’t’ breakup due to lack of love. Both knew that she wanted her space to grow without his help (even if zero contact is a tad too extreme even for dramaland). They parted ways on a promising note in fact. So now that she has proved herself it’s not really a surprise they rekindled things so quickly.

The airport scene was him trying to give her a proper send off - not to stop her from leaving.

You are not alone! I was afraid the 12 episode curse would hit this drama too but they managed to wrap most of the key plots well. Even with the third couple, while we didn’t get much, from In Uk’s call during JYJ/WSB’s reunion suggests that they are at least together (or still close enough for them to be happy about it).

JYJ immediately rekindling her relationship with WSB also makes sense since they parted ways on a promising note - they both knew it wasn’t due to lack of love but for personal growth🙈

Honestly surprised they didn’t give WSB his own personal growth arc but I guess you cannot change a leopard’s spots in 2 years eh?🙈

I’m guessing they probably cut the father’a plot due to the limited time constraint like you previously predicted with the other cut scenes but honestly it’s not hard to imagine what happened. He already lost his precious reputation thanks to the scandal and the divorce - essentially social suicide for a narcissist like him. I’m just glad that we know that his mum definitely got a happy ending❤️

From his mother’s pov i get why. She already anticipated a glorious rise if Xie was her daaghter in law. She’s already resigned to her son’s self-made downfall- specially after both Yu and Yake’s antics indirectly dragged her status down too. I don’t think his foolish antics surprises her anymore?

As for his father, he truly doesn’t care about what happened to Xie.

Yu Jing Xiu is currently on the same path as most “crazy” obsessed SML in similar Cdramas. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up getting killed off by his own hands within the last 2 episodes or so🙈

With Yake it’s rather complicated. In a way she is a victim but it was her actions that made her despicable. She’ll probably exile herself perhaps? What do you think?

You are probably right. He must have overheard something she said or did and misunderstood it. He definitely is the type.

That's the sad thing honestly. I was watching Blossoms of Power before starting this so I naively thought the SMlL would be a rebelious ally when they first introduced him. Hell I even rooted for his and Yake's relationship before they started to scheme 🙈

The crux of their issue is their insecurities. Perhaps if Zou didn't continuously taunt Yake or if their society didn't make her situation obvious, things might have been different.

Then again the second couple are naturally weak willed so eventhough they were talented on their own, their insecurities overshadowed everything else🙃

IKR?! The irony! I guess his logic there was that Yake loved and respected him so much that she was willing to destroy her precious script.

He's a hypocrite. As long as he benefits from it, it's ok. Yake trying to find a means to survive the Yu family politics is not his problem🤪

With Fan Yake, he feels like he has been tricked because he caught her selling her father's treasured scripts to fund her expenses. He was under the impression that just like him, she too valued them.

The genius didn't bother to wonder WHY was she willing to sell her dowry instead of fixing the core problem - i.e. his mother🤦‍♀️


PS: I can't recall now if Yake purposely tricked him into believing she valued rare scripts to gain his affection so I may be missing something

Yake is her own worst enemy. Xie doesn't really need to lift a finger even. She almost always digs her own grave every time she tries to scheme.

For instance, with her child's birthday. If Yake took the high road and just ignored Xie instead of making it her personal mission to make Xie look like a joke in front of her guests, she wouldn't have embarrased herself.

From Xie's POV, my guess is that she's using the same logic she had with Lu. Yake isn't worth dirtying her hands.

That's true...it feels kind of futile since they closed that chapter a few episodes back. I guess if we want to be realistic, it was her way of reacting to Soo Bin's stubbon stance?

Even in the preview she says how she wishes he didn't push her into saying things she doesn't want to say? You know it's irrational but when you keep getting pushed, everything just comes out? Even things you don't mean? That's how I feel anyway.

She did hold a grudge for years afterall. She finally has a chance only to find history repeating itself, so she just can't help recounting her outdated thoughts?🙈


I completely agree with you on your last point!!!! I understand wanting the best for your favourite character but that doesn't mean you should ignore the storyline. POVs matter🙈
