Yeah it was pretty equal in the novel but I don't think it's equal in the drama from the posts I've seen. It looks like the classic cdrama couple where ml is much more in love.

Thank you for answering, I didn't feel like he was more in love in the novel, it felt even to me but I can tell from your answer and some of the comments here that it's very uneven in the drama. I prefer otps where they're both as in love like Hidden love or Lighter and princess rather than ones where the ml is madly in love by himself which is 99% of cdramas let's be real.

How does the romance here compare to the novel? I know they changed a lot but they did keep the dynamic of them being both really in love and as devoted or is it the usual cdrama relationship where the ml is 120% in love and the fl is at 30% on a good day?

I rather hope it's she fell first, they fell just as hard. Almost every cdrama couple is he fell harder regardless of who fell first. Based on the mvs and trailers this looks like it might one of the few cases where we get a true power ride or die couple who are truly in love with each other not just the ml.

Exactly, it's why these kind of dramas even if cathartic have started to feel incredibly depressing to me because we know all of this happens irl and very frequently too and yet unlike fiction, there's no saviors and no justice.
It's the social justice equivalent of the romance dramas we have nowadays where in fiction every man is a perfect greenflag who adores the fl from day 1 and does 95% of the work in the relationship and yet irl every single day you hear about 5 horrifying things happening to women in SK (it's not just them, it's the whole world but since we're discussing them rn). It's all utter fantasy which is fine but a certain point...

😅 You're not wrong, a few years ago (pre 2022) almost every relationship was balanced so I keep hoping this is just a passing phase and we'll get back to real romance instead of self insert fantasy but alas.

Same, I barely watch any romance now because it's all like this lol. ML falls madly in love by ep 3 and his entire life is about the FL while she barely acts like she likes him and then we get one very weak act of devotion from her in ep 33 and it's over.
Have you seen his Love of nirvana, is the otp equal in that one, I've been meaning to check it but was hesitating because of this.

Thank you for the detailed answer, I don't mind that it's a subplot it seems like that's the only way to get an equal relationship nowadays in dramas. Every airing romance k/cdrama is so one sided and unbalanced, I'll take a subplot because that's all there is at this point.

Yup, not just cdramas but kdramas nowadays are the exact same way, and like you said it's not a plot point they act like it's completely normal and even how it should be that a relationship is the ML doing literally everything and being crazily in love but the FL barely acts like she tolerates him.... You can barely find a handful of dramas where the women are actually proactive in their relationships.

Thank you, because if we take this actor's other works for example, then I saw a couple of them like I may love you and You are my secret and people said they were equal/mutual and they really weren't even close. IMLY she liked him first before the show started and then almost immediately it flipped and he spent the entire show running after her, YAMS again their whole dynamic was him putting a thousand percent into the rlsp and getting very little back and I don't find that romantic no matter the gender.

Genuine question, is it actually mutual love and understanding? As in they show up and support and love each other just as much with their actions and words or it's the male lead doing 10x more like most dramas. If their roles were reversed would you still feel it's as equal?

I want to watch it but I've noticed a lot of people's definition (not saying that's you necessarily) of mutual means ml doing 80% and fl 15% on her best day as long long as she's not awful to him they call it a day. And as someone who prefers equal, both madly in love ships not just the guy it's caused me to watch a lot of unbalanced relationships which is why I've learned to ask, apologies for the long ass question.
