I expected a lot more madness & the fact that Sado isn't portrayed as a madman, but as someone who is kindhearted, fair and idealistic, will make the ending even more heartbreaking.
However, it's one of the best sageuks I've seen so far. The acting of both main actors is amazing and their portrayal of this complicated father-son relationship is really done well. Their good times and love for each other & their bad times, including different conflicts and disagreements between them, are all realistic and believable. I also love how they managed to keep the tension high even though we all know how it's ultimately going to end.
I have yet to see the ending (last 5 episodes) but 7.7 is way too low for this drama.
The flashback ends in episode 33, so I wouldn't look at it just as a flashback but as an integral part of the…
No problem!
As for that, I have no idea, lol. In the novel he looks like Mo Xuanyu, but in the live adaptation he kept his body. I'm not sure if there is an official explanation but I just took it as it is and went along. Seeing how they couldn't find his body after death I imagined that MX exchanged both his body and soul for Wei Wuxian's 😂
So I just started watching this show. I'm currently on episode 4. The whole of episode 3 was a flashback and I'm…
The flashback ends in episode 33, so I wouldn't look at it just as a flashback but as an integral part of the storyline. I can understand you tho. When I watched it for the first time I skipped the whole flashback just to see what happens after WWX blacks out in ep. 2. I wouldn't suggest it tho, watching everything chronologically is much better.
As for the interesting part, I would say it starts with ep. 16 (major things start happening to the main character) but episodes before that aren't boring at all.
Also, I would say we're not meant to understand first two episodes in the beginning. They're there to pique our interest and make us wonder what happened to WWX and between him, Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng in the past, and once you finish the flashback you'll understand first two episodes as well.
So yeah, I would suggest watching a few more episodes before giving up. Story-wise and character development-wise, it's one of the best dramas out there in my opinion.
Pretty boring, if I may say so. I'm 15 episodes in, and while it's not so bad that it can't be watched, it's rather uninteresting. It's visually pretty tho, I'll give them that. The first two episodes were promising and interesting, but after they killed off the real prince it went downhill. I still can't get over his death, he was such a sweet child 😓
I expected something dramatic and heavy, but they slapped me with dark humor. I don't usually mind dark humor, but it kinda ruined the whole thing because it wasn't what I expected it to be. Also, the last few episodes were better than the first few episodes. As a whole it wasn't bad, but it was just okay for me; nothing special.
For episode 25 and 26... It depends from person to person... For me, what she did was reasonable... He needed…
Nah, I was fine with the "kick". She was harsh, yes, but he also left her hanging without explaining anything so I agree that she had the right to be angry. However, once he came back, solved the problem & tried to make up with her, she started acting like the complete ass. That's not how you support someone you love who is going through such a big crisis. Her behaviour after he came back is what pissed me off. I decided not to let it affect my overall rating tho. Other than that, she was a likable character.
I couldn't imagine more satisfying ending, it was beautiful and emotional. There were some things and details that really bugged me (f.ex. LZH's behaviour in ep. 25 & 26 really made my blood boil) but as a whole it was a really good drama. It had a little bit of everything; romance, angst and funny moments, and all of it was done right. The acting was great. I thought XZ was a bit too stiff in the beginning, but he quickly proved me wrong and really shined throughout the rest of the drama. The chemistry between him and Yang Zi was definitely there and they looked so natural together. Yang Zi was also amazing. This is the first time I'm watching her and I'm impressed, especially by her 'silent crying' scenes. All in all, it was a satisfying watch. 9/10
I thought I would hate the ML because most of the comments here about him were negative, but I actually ended up sympathizing and understanding him. His inner struggle between extreme egoism and low self-esteem was, at least to me, understandable. It was very human and I love the rawness of it all. ML's narration in the background made it easier to understand his actions and the emotions that caused all of his unhingedness. The contrast between the happy moments of their relationship and all the ugly things he caused was done really well. The ending was also brilliantly done; it was unexpected but truly fitting to the overall theme of the story. I absolutely loved this movie, it might even be one of my favourite movies. 10/10
I've got a penchant for historical shows no matter the country of origin, but I definitely enjoy romance and need…
Hmm, not sure how to answer this. The chemistry is definitely there, and for the most part ML and FL successfully work together to help ML 'defeat' his brothers and take over the title of crown prince. She's smart and loyal to him, and even though he's ambitious, he would spoil his own plans to protect her. It's not a classic romance with lots of kisses/cuddling etc. but their love for each other is clearly visible. If you're in it only for romance you may not be satisfied, but since you like historical shows I think you'll be able to appreciate this one.
I watched this because I was unsatisfied with the ending of Todome no Kiss and I have to say I'm finally satisfied. It's the ending I needed. The rest was too campy for my taste, ngl. I should've watched only ep. 10.
I love how absolutely and unabashedly depraved Otaro was in the beginning, it's not something we see very often when it comes to main leads. I also love how Saiko's influence 'unnoticeably' and slowly changed him. That being said, I'm not really satisfied with the ending even though I loved the plot as a whole. 8/10
It gets more interesting later, at least that was the case for me. I wasn't impressed by the first few episodes (which were mostly about LZX's family) but as soon as the focus shifted to the main leads' relationship it got better.
Or this one might not be for you, that's also a possibility 😅
I watched the anime long time ago so I knew what to expect story-wise, but I was honestly surprised by how much I liked this live adaptation. I thought it wouldn't be good, but it actually was.
This was really touching, I'm positively surprised. The ending is really gratifying & I love how they portrayed the friendship between Kakeru and others. All in all, beautifully emotional!
I have mixed feelings about this one. I feel it's underappreciated, but while I enjoyed the first half, I lost interest towards the end and didn't really feel anything even though there was A LOT of angst. I'm not sure whether I'm the problem or there was something missing, either way I wish I could've connected more to the characters.
The political aspect was also rather weak. The acting, however, was really good! I was impressed by Gala Zhang's portrayal of sickly traveling doctor who is actually quite cunning and mysterious. Other did a good job as well. Den Yu Li stood out in my opinion.
All in all, 8/10 from me. I can't bring myself to rate it lower because I did enjoy it in the beginning, it had some really good fighting scenes, nice costumes, good OST, good acting etc.
Ah I'm struggling. I love Xiao Zhan but I'm just not enjoying his choice of drama work. I didn't enjoy Ace Troops…
I know the feeling. It's not something I feel when it comes to XZ and his works, but I follow quite a few actors and liking their acting, but not enjoying their works can be frustrating. I came to love XZ for his roles in costume dramas, and while those are still my favourite, I'm quite fortunate to actually like most of his dramas, especially the new ones.
Hopefully he chooses something you can enjoy too. Like you said, supporting someone shouldn't feel like a chore :/
Sad. Ning Yi does become a good emperor but the love story between him and Zhiwei is tragic.
There were some misunderstandings between them towards the ending, but they reconciled and she accepted to be his wife and queen. However, she committed suicide before he came to pick her up, not because she hated him tho. They both loved each other very much in the end.
