1. He wants to promote himself and Pentagon, so Cube will see the value of keeping the group in the company and renewing their contracts.
2. He knows Cube is not planning to renew the contracts so he uses this as a chance to let himself more know and either debut in the team if he gets in top9, or gain more fans are recognition to start a solo career after leaving Cube.
2. Sung Han Bin is THE BEST center from any survival show. I don't think there was ever a trainee who fitted the center image more than him. I think Matthew tries to prove himself too much in too many areas instead of focusing on one and acing it. He wants the most lines, he wants to lead the dance practice, he wants to be the leader. Because of that the screentime we get from him is a bit all over the place and we don't really see his best, but his busiest.
3. I'm curious how the teams will look like after they drop the number of trainees. Since almost all have to go down to 5, and the rest will move to the 2 songs with 1 and 2 trainees atm.
Not Ho Tae trying to convince Won Young he is still sick, so he can work for Dong Hee a bit longer π€£
Yo... how come "mouth to mouth" was his first idea to make Tae Joon take the meds π€‘ What is this? Wuxia?
THAT LAST SCENE WAS SO ADORABLE! πππ
Also, I am so invested in the 2nd couple π
En garde - fair choice especially for this round. Before I watched the episode I was a bit salty because it seemed that even members who would want to try to fight for that position just gave up simply because Hui is Hui, BUT since in this round producing and planning are really big assets, picking Hui who has the most experience and skill in that area makes perfect sense. And it's not like he lacks in leadership skills and just has the "performance and planning" related skills - he has both.
Say My Name - Hanbin is a good pick. I was not sure at first because he legit gives the softest angel vibes ever, but he can be a serious teacher too. I honestly think Ji Woong is a good leader material too. Also, Matthew never learns π€£ I would never want to be a leader after Love Killa, he legit managed to survive that time mentally thanks to Ji Woong. As for that Matthew teaching part - I do agree with Hanbin. Their teaching style and what they focus on at first so literally the opposite so when the two try to teach the whole team, it will become mess later coz there will be no unity. Like.. Matthew I love you my child, but you are not a leader material π₯²
Over Me - Again the fact that Zhang Hao felt the need to explain why he does not want to be a leader just shows how the trainees go all wrong about picking who should take the role. His high ranking says nothing about his leadership skills, it says a lot about his performance skills. No one should assume he will be the leader because of his rank, and he should not need to explain why he does not want to be one. Yoon Jong woo a solid pick.
Switch - skipping this since they did not show how the leader was picked π₯² I feel bad for Wumuti because he became the leader of the least motivated team, but there are ways to get to the trainees. First of all ask if they just want to give up being idols after this show completely? If not, they should want to practice more. They might not perform the new song on stage, but they are improving the skills they will need when they eventually debut - IT'S NOT A WASTE OF TIME TO PRACTICE THE SKILL YOU NEED AS AN IDOL. Practice hard enough that viewers will regret not voting for you and not being able to see that performance. Practice so hard viewers will want to keep up with you and news about your future debut even after you get eliminated. Wumuti did it for me - I am curious about him and I want to see him debut and I want to check out his debut, whenever it might be.
Supercharger - i want to know how these teams are picking leaders ππππ
Side not about Ma Jing Xiang - I get where he is coming from, but I also feel like he lack the sense of responsibility and teamwork, and you need that to be in a group. Picking just the lines you feel like you can do well, ignoring the team wanting to practice the formation, to learn the choreo and detail alone - all about him doing well alone, not team working well together. Also yes for Jong Woo - no time for arguing, just say how it is - you can';;t change the parts however you want. That's what leader should do at time. Situations like that is exactly why I always pay attention to the picking leaders and how they manage the team. Big props to Jong Woo.
Also random thought, but how can I not adore and love with my whole heart Park Han Bin when he is literally Woosan's child with Woodz as his uncle?
Jin Woo is going to have a heart attack his crush so strong π€£
Not gonna lie, this is the most bullshit ranking process I have ever seen. Legit skipping it all until the last one with all benefits. It's just such a waste of time.
I'm so sorry to say that but Shiwoo and Yuma have to debut in a different group. They both have more of a crazy fun teen vibe, than the cute little boy that the other members deliver. Both showed how good they can be with different than cute concept (in Rap performance and Dance performance in last round). They both are not AMAZING in their skill YET, but the potential there is as fucking high as it can get and both have such a massive stage presence, just don't make them do cute shit π
I had to pause when Shiwoo was about to speak coz him about to cry is me literally crying π
Honestly... this was a bad episode in terms of directing. They should show ranking without bonusses and with ALL bonusses and that's it. Give more behind the scene bits and let the trainees speak more as the results are given.
Short thoughts about new songs since they are on spotify lol
1. Dignity - RE-ZERO: I love the chorus, especially the high pitched melody line and the "flute" in the 2nd verse!
2. Team 2:00 - CIRCUIT: this one... I'm not crazy about? It just sounds a bit basic and not memorable π
3. BXB - HOLA!: I mean... I am sucker for this vibe. Love the breathy vocals too. Not good enough for a playlist tho..
4. ATBO - TEXT ME (1052): HOLY FUCK THIS SOUNDS SO NOSTALGIC LOL
5. Team 7:00 - Doesn't Matter: Something that always gets me - an empty instrumental for the chorus that moves into a whole ass summer melody vibe.
6. Team 8:00 - Coco Colada: fuck yes for the beginning of the first verse, the rest... nope.
7. BLITZERS - S.O.D.A: yeah... not sure how I feel about that chorus π€£ the opening rap for the 2nd verse tho! yes!
8. Team 11:00 - Skyscraper: per-chorus was for sure the best part of the song. Tho that base anti-drop for the chorus was also amazing.
9. Team 13:00 - CRIMINAL: this feels more like a solo or duet kind of song, not exactly one for a group... Han Gyeol in the chorus tho π
10. Team 14:00 - FEVER: Am I the only one who feels like they struggled with the vocals? π€£
11. Team 15:00 - Nothin' without you: I love me noise music so much π Love this one so much!
12. BDC - Thunder (Urr) : this gives me like 2011 kpop. Not mad about it, but I guess I kind of moved on from that style.
13. Team 20:00 - Like We've Never Been: decent chill song.
14. 24k - STEP BY STEP: this is like a b-side song that if it was from my fav fav group I would add to playlist but skip more often than not lol
15. Team 23:00 - Chamomile: okay i for sure love the vocals in verse one. Great attitude. The song just makes you happy.
16. Team 24:00 - Be Mine: yeah this is Infinite vibes π€£
Honestly not amazed with the song π
Probably the members will have to choose themselves which 5-6 members stay in a specific song, and who has to leave to fill the other songs' spots.
And it's not a separate work. It is a rather close adaptation of existing story. They followed the webtoon too closely to view it as a completely different thing, but they also gave up on a lot of nuances to make it easier to digest for the viewers. Some may like and appreciate that, I would personally prefer them to not go the "black and white" version.
I cannot speak for others, but I'm not one to always criticize adaptations and claim the original source material is always better. Many shows/movies I preferred as the adaptation compared to the source material. but I'm also going to point out if I dislike the direction the production takes. It's all subjective anyway. The changes in this adaptation make the story less good for me, but they might make it better for others.
I first started the show and then decided to read the webtoon so it's not like I'm an OG fan of the webtoon now salty about the drama not being 1:1 copy of the plot Β―\_(γ)_/Β― I don't think webtoon was that amazing either, but it did a few things better than the drama is doing and that's what I pointed out. I would have exactly the same complains about the show even without reading the webtoon.
From TH's actions being far less serious, less malicious and more playful at the beginning. How the consequences in the drama were - DY is annoyed and angry. While in webtoon he was sure annoyed and angry, but it was honestly obvious he was truly scared of what might happened to him and the scholarship.
How his conversation with the dad made him look more like a victim with dad trying to "excuse" the aunt for her sake, when it webtoon it was more of the dad comforting TH (poor attempt but still) which added the complexity of this situation - it was not everyone hates TH and abandoned him, it was a father who failed at dealing with serious situation that happened.
Or how the aunt was not a nasty bitch who was not nice to him from the start. Like damn they even make her say he sucks at drawing, when in webtoon she said he is really good at drawing lol They really wanted everyone to be sure that she is the evil one and how to feel about her. No conflicting feelings for the viewers. Or when he asked if the parents will sent him back when the new baby shows up and she calmy explained that it's not true. That her sister, his mom would never do it (while in drama she said no one knows and maybe if he will be a good boy he won't have to come back, which just made him more scared of the new baby). She also seemed older in the drama which make her actions worse, while in webtoon she was a young student. Yes, the slap still happened when he said he wishes the baby to never come, but they also said how TH was acting like that for months. The situation was far less "bitch of an aunt" and more complex. Her blaming him was also a strong emotional reaction to her losing her sister as a teen herself.
Even tiny things like why his friend quits archery. I thought it was far more thought provoking for him to give up because he truly thinks he cannot make it work, he is simply not good enough, he reached his top ability and it's not enough. The idea that sometimes hard work is not enough. Giving him shoulder injury was just... unnecessary.
With how they go in the drama right now, I think this will have far more of a happy ending than the webtoon and again... not sure if I'm happy about it.
and the last paragraph of the review does not make the drama too appealing either π€£
TH KNOWS DY's version of searching for something important is true, because he literally found it - him knowing the truth, but presenting misleading idea of what happened KNOWING it is misleading falls under definition of lie: "to create a false or misleading impression" and "an untrue or inaccurate statement that may or may not be believed true by the speaker or writer".
No person on the planet would be chill after being falsely accused of SA. He was not embarrassment, he was angry and annoyed at TH for lying and teachers for not even wanting to hear his side of it.
