Forgive me for bragging a bit😅I actually originally caught onto it over a month ago because of Rio's wording…
It's so funny to me that while everyone feel dumb for not realizing it at all, here I am feeling stupid for not realizing it even sooner, because I really could have if only I trusted my initial gut feeling from the first time I saw the trailer over a month ago😮💨
Still proud I was able to predict it perfectly, though, even if it did make me feel a bit insane at the time😅
Ep. 6 I can't be the only one who went Ehh?! when Sota vehemently denied having a girlfriend, right? 😆
That was the moment when I was like "hold on, I was right all along?!" I had to rewind it to make sure I didn't misread the subs, but no, that was just literally what he said😳
I actually originally caught onto it over a month ago because of Rio's wording in the first trailer, but it wasn't until two weeks ago where I actually fully caught on. I wouldn't have found it odd if she referred to a non-Japanese guy as her "boyfriend" (said in English,) but because the (alleged) boyfriend was Japanese, it just felt kind of off to me. There had to be a double-meaning with it—especially when it was also explicitly written in the trailers as either "好きになったのは、姉のボーイフレンド" or "家庭教師は姉ちゃんのボーイフレンド" and not once did Rio or the trailer use 彼氏/彼. Likewise, Sota never referred to anyone as 彼女 or even 恋人. This, to me, meant that the choice of words were absolutely intentional, and not just randomly chosen. This misunderstanding only works because the audience relies on Natsuki's understanding of "boyfriend" to be correct, so I was frantically looking for any crumbs that Rio and Sota were actually dating, as they really just seemed like close friends to me. It became even more obvious in the two spin-off episodes focusing on Sota where he not once hinted at actually dating Rio, and he instead basically said that he wouldn't feel lonely even if he wasn't dating anyone. That sure is an odd thing to say if you're actively in a relationship, and I know a few people here caught onto it, but because they believed Natsuki's interpretation to be correct, they didn't think much further on it.
I don't think I have personally ever heard of "boyfriend" being popular slang in Japanese culture to use on your romantic partner, but what do I know? I really thought I was just reading too much into it and therefore never said much about it, except for one random reply two weeks ago, though I myself have been absolutely convinced since then.
Actually, looking at the Thai names written in that part, I think those are supposed to be parody names, so you can't really blame AI for that. Not being able to get "Chian" correctly or translating "moncchichi" to "monkey" (++ more blatant mistakes) is unacceptable, though.
I KNEW Rio saying "boyfriend" in English was sus! I've been convinced she meant it as "boy-friend" now for weeks because the trailer also used ボーイフレンド which just seemed so odd to me.
Please prioritize promoting the official international platforms Viki or GagaOOLala. If you want to share illegal websites, please do that through DMs. I know not everyone are able to afford online subscriptions for up to several platforms, so I'm not trying to shame anyone for having to use those websites, but it is basic etiquette to not share them openly online. Please respect the actual people behind the series and first and foremost promote the official platforms where it is available—even if you yourself are unable to use them. I believe the first episode is at least free on Gaga.
Does anyone know where I catch watch this drama with English subtitles?
Unsure about when exactly it drops on Viki, but on Gaga each episode releases on Tuesday 8:30am Taiwan time. I assume it drops on Viki around the same time.

Edit: If anyone are interested in my comment from two weeks ago where I predicted this twist, here is the link, but be aware it won't work in the app, so you need to open it in browser and scroll down a bit:

I felt like I was insane for pointing this out, actually.

Someone let me know if they actually fix this travesty. I'm not forcing myself through one more second of those subs.
(I'm not saying that being aroace means you can't be in a relationship btw. That depends entirely from person to person!)
