If strong females leads with the commonest of sense is your thing...do not watch this drama..the FL is so badly written you will eventually move past being angry at how annoying and stupid she is to just flat out hating the writers who wrote her character that way...If you really want a sweet young adult drama go watch 'somewhere only we know' or 'put your head on my shoulder' both are really great and you won't hate yourself for wasting hours of your life like you definitely will after watching this one.
*SPOILERS BELOW* I was so excited to watch this drama because I happen to love college romance dramas but I have never regretted watching something as much as I did this...It's like the writers hated the female character...Initially, I loved the fact that she could fight and was strong but all of that is overshadowed by how obsessive and stupid they made the female character. I was done with this drama the moment she decided to give up her "dream" of being a teacher to go to medical school simply because of the male lead who at the time she was not even in a romantic relationship with...all her life decisions were made based off of her "love" for this guy...oh did I mention she has a phobia of blood but still decides to go to medical school.
I could not take it, at one point she was fainting in the classes because of her phobia of blood, she was told that she would need to either seek counseling or switch programs..she refused to do either but in typical crappy plot fashion, the ML was able to help her overcome her phobia. This was hands down one of the worse drama I've ever watched simply because of the injustice done to the FL character. It was such a shame because I had such high hopes for this drama. And if you need another reason to not watch this drama..the side characters are all really annoying...They improve in the later episodes though but it's hard to even get to the later episodes.
Your heart needs to be extremely strong to watch this drama from start to finish...Its more sad, frustrating and disappointing moments than happy ones. The show itself is pretty addictive that even though you want to stop you cant...
Eventually, though I couldn't finish it...It became really hard to watch after a while and as much as I love Wallace, I hated him so much in this drama. If you're watching to see Ruyi eventually fight back against the injustice she faced...don't bother...it rarely happens but Ruyi was very strong and probably the best thing about this drama. Apparently this drama was supposed to be about Ruyi's and the emperor's love to me it felt like it was mostly about the emperor's harem and bad choices in women. The ending is tragic but oddly satisfying (I skipped to the end after things started getting too wild).

I felt this in my soul...I cant deal with the emperor..He tells Ruyi he loves her and then glances at another girl falls in lust...It is hard to watch...i get thats how it was but i dont get how he claims to love her so much and then without an ounce of remorse proceeds to continuously do the most...and these fake nice girls that keep catching his eyes...first the musician and now i'm at the flower girl...i honestly dont know if i'm strong enough to keep watching it...and let me be clear the issue for me isnt really all the wives..the issues is the adding more wives..like okay we met the first 6 wives we got a read on them and then baps he sees some girl (and you know he's about to fall for her when he does that look he does) and decided to add her to the sister wives tribe...i want to finish but idk if I can..Him sticking his penis in everything is a big turn off for me...i'm sorry this is so long...lol i guess i needed to vent...btw..which episode does Ruyi become Empress?
