I wouldn’t compare Shen Yurong to the Princess anymore, after episode 32.
I was the first one to see SYR as evil psycho in the past but seeing how princess targeted him and turned to literally her slave (emotionally AND physically!), I am not that eager to judge his character the same way anymore.
I was pitying Ji Shuran after seeing her backstory, but at the end she became exactly like her father.
Shen Yurong is a victim after all. It’s hard to deny. And it doesn’t erase his guilt, oh no. This act of killing his own wife to save his family actually torn his mind and heart and left him broken as a human being. He never really loved Princess, he also didn’t have a choice, so he just became her slave. The panic he showed when A’Li mentioned going all against her was speaking for itself.
He’s a coward. He (almost) killed his own wife out of fear. But he’s not a psychopath or narcissist as you’re stating. I’m not saying he should’ve some kind of redemption right now but I can understand where his actions came from. He’s been stripped out of his humility, treated like a dog.
This drama has such great characters. Many of them are weaved from the best and the worst humanity has to offer…

Oh no, this spoiled brat sociopath is obsessed with him and thinks about him like something she can own, not a human being with feelings.
For her own sake, she destroyed this man to the bone, stripping him of all the values he’s been caring about and nurturing his whole life. He was not a bad person to begin with, it’s the princess who pushed him to the edge, leaving only animal survival instinct. She could with do anything she wanted, having his mother’s support and him not being from influential family who would back him up.
He’s not a man of strong personality, so what’s left is only something that looks like a human being, but in fact there is a very little what’s left from he used to be. He’s a very tragic character, when you think about it.
Ahhh, I can’t believe that I moved from hating him to pity just in one episode, but I can’t help it. He’s not a good person, but he’s not even in one percent that evil as the princess or his mother.

But what exactly would his death bring? He’s not a malicious type of character, „just” a coward. It’s doubtful he’s gonna commit this kind of crime again. He regrets what he’s done. Will be tripped with guilt till the end of time.
Going to jail and his position being taken away from him would be a good sentence. All what he’s been working for his whole life would go to vain, leaving him with nothing.
Logically speaking, it he would not „kill” her, she would be dead from someone else’s hand along with his mother and sister. I don’t think there was any choice for him to begin with.
I would also much more want to see the death of his mother and psycho princess. They’re evil, acting with malicious intentions. Or something worse than death, I would be happy with that kind of sentence, too.

I don’t believe at all with all this, I think this whole situation will be part of a plan between Emperor, Duke Su and A’Li. MAYBE with Shen Yurong going along with them and being part of the scheme. It’s a trap set for Princess.

Oh, I think we have some kind of misunderstanding here, I was talking about him taking his own life, not killing A'Li. His death would be pointless right now so I would like to see A'Li using him as her own pawn for revenge.
Logically speaking, in the end of the day it looks like nobody died because of Shen Yurong. She survived, her father survived and looking at the trailer for ep33, her brother is alive, too.
Still, he's a piece of trash for what he attempted to do. There is no doubts.
