"Welcome to Dongmakgol". Watched it in Japanese in class last week, but watching it again with English subtitles since I have to write a paper on it. It's not bad.

Hiya! It's been awhile. Well, I went camping this weekend with my friends, which was super fun, but now I am catching up on homework...fortunately that involves watching a Korean movie tonight! How are you?

Hey! Like your profile pic :) I'm actually ok, sorry I haven't been around for so long. It was a busy week, and I'm actually going camping for the weekend in about an hour. Oh no! Colds are no fun! Hope you feel better very soon! I am so excited for Christmas too! I haven't seen that movie, but Christmas in Japan is kind of unique. It's a couples holiday, not a family one. And everyone eat Kentucky Fried Chicken and Strawberry Shortcake. Which are summertime foods in the US, but go figure. Anyway, ttyl!

Yeah, sorry I was falling asleep right as you got on yesterday. I've been in bed all weekend, and the time I ventured out for food I got stuck in a massive downpour. So nothing too exciting recently. You? :)

They did a good job with Saeki's character in Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oshiete Kureta, imo. I couldn't stand her at the beginning of the drama, but by the end I felt sympathy and even respect for her. Also, without her, that drama would have no storyline whatsoever!

Oops! I forgot to explain the Francophilia...by that, I meant that Japanese love anything French, because it is French (and European stuff in general, England is a close second). They put indiscriminate French phrases on everything, there are more "French style" bakeries than Starbucks maybe, and French restaurants are popular. It's used in marketing all the time, sometimes for no apparent reason. I mean it, put a French flag on any product, and the Japanese will line up to buy it. Well, that maybe an exaggeration, but you get the point ;) I haven't seen them everywhere, but my uni here has umbrella dryers! They look like big round trashcans, but you insert your umbrella half closed and it kicks on automatically, like a hand dryer in a wash room! Also, they have these automatic chalk board eraser cleaner things in the classroom. Japan is full of unnecessary electronic items!

Please, if you are willing, recommend me Japanese music! A lot of my Japanese friends listen to American or Korean music mostly, although recently someone recommended L'Arc en Ciel (I think that's how you spell it?) to me. I like Otsuka Ai's sad songs, and also her more rock sounding songs. The soundtrack of her drama Tokyo Friends is really good! But I don't care for her bubblegum pop. She is very versatile though. My favorite Luna Sea song is I for You. (although I am kinda new to them). As for Kat-tun, my favorite song (so far) is Yorokobi no Uta! It's kinda cheesy, like the lyrics, but the chorus is so good. It feels so familiar somehow, like I've heard it before and have some memory associated with it. Maybe I have, hehe. I also like Gold, and know You and Real Face (which is I guess their stereotypical song). You is the opener to Sapuri, right? so cute!

1) (emailing is good with me...I pm-ed you my address, but I'll reply here for now). That's exactly how I feel about the culture! In some ways, I don't fit Japan at all, but in some ways, I fit in here better than I do at home. I know most of the people in my town, I was actually worried about people not being friendly here. It's not the same, but they are friendly in a different way. The activity and crowds in cities can be exciting, but they can also wear a person out! I'm glad I live in Nagoya, not Tokyo, although Tokyo could be cool at a later date. If my first experience with a big city was suddenly being dropped into Tokyo with jetlag and having to adjust to life in Japan there, it might have been a little much, although I loved going there on vacation.

2) JGS does have a beer commercial right now, and I watched the dubbed version of You're Beautiful on tv this summer...in btw trips I was so bored! 4 stores?? That's a little much! I watched the Kmovie of Kimi wa Petto on the plane over here, was he in that? I didn't know who he was, and hadn't seen the Jdrama back then. The endings are different. I'm on the 1st season of CK now! If you have Kattun songs to recommend, please do! I recently got into Luna Sea and Otsuka Ai as well, but I'm so new to Asian music. The toilets, I know, right? In my school, they have bathrooms with both the super fancy automatic toilets on one side, and the "Japanese Style" pit toilets on the other! I think the pit toilets were more suprising. Also, trash sorting, elevators, subways, shopping, Francophilia, umbrella dryers, marketing, fashion, vending machines...I could go on for awhile.

1) Yeah, I liked R no M when I started, but it's getting kind of repetitive. I haven't checked, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't based on a manga. That's ok, you didn't know I was in college! I only got ramen once, it was a softbank promotion thing. I could probably find more free stuff if I went downtown more often or lived in Tokyo, but I avoid crowded areas...my first time living in a city, and it is indeed a big city. A lot of my culture shock may be related to that, actually. I like being able to study Japanese full-time, instead of one class a semester. Also, being surrounded by it all the time is helping me pick it up. I made so many new friends, and also treasure the chance to see Japanese friends I made in the US who returned to Japan. I don't know, I just love Japanese culture. There are aspects I will really miss when I go home.

Free fashion mags? I've never seen those! But I've gotten pens and cup ramen before, hehe. I don't really know how to answer if I'm a Johnny's fan...I don't know the music very well, although I do like their dramas and variety shows, like Shokura. I'm watching Cartoon Kat-tun right now, and kind of getting into Kat-tun because of it. I've liked Kame and Yamapi for a long time, but more like they seem cool to hang out with. I really should listen to Yamapi/NEWS stuff, I only know his recent stuff cause it's /always/ on the radio here. Kisumai is too. I have mixed feelings about them...sometimes I like them, and sometimes I can't. You probably like Arashi? Since you like MatsuJun :) Do you listen to Hey! Say! at all? My friend likes them, esp. Yamada Ryosuke. I just started watching Risou no Musuko, and he's coincidentally in that, and super cute!

Happy to share, then. I don't really get to talk about life in Japan with my friends back home. I didn't come in high school, this is my first time in Japan. It might be hard to fit study abroad into your schedule if you're already an upperclassman, but if your school has an exchange program, you should check it out! I haven't been in a Johnny's store either. But my friend went to a Jang Geun Seok store in Tokyo. Kpop is huge here right now. CN Blue just came to Nagoya. I haven't done too much karaoke. I have to be in the right mood to handle a room of twenty drunk people singing off key :P But with just a few friends it's fun. China? I'm jealous! I took Chinese for a year, but I doubt I remember any of it now...but someday. This is my first time to leave the US. Free stuff is great! I will so miss those free tissues. Also the people who hand them out are funny!
