Apparently, many of Chinese netizens also think this way so it is not really an unpopular opinion but if we are…
Yes they said that, not just saying it, they even made videos to highlight all the ugly scenes and "fat" scenes to mock and laugh at, some of these video has high views because it was made by a supposedly "drama critics" not a moment they were talking about plots good or bad things about the drama. They were even mocking the CGI.

That would be about very very small percentage, and I read the douban forum page, supertalk and weibo everyday just to make sure if these audience were genuine audience or bots. You can search on Douban and Weibo, their comments are mostly "Ew the female lead is ugly, drop this drama" or "Female lead doesn't look fairy enough with slanted eyes'' or "Male lead is fathead fish" there are a few people who really didn't like the plot but they are definitely not the majority who joined in the haters tirade as these people objectively critics the flaws they observed in the drama and they can only do that if they properly watch the drama. The many Chinese netizens you are talking about don't watch the drama they only know the female lead is ugly and the male lead is fat, you can tell because they keep repeating the same negative words and pictures and videos.

Note: This is just sharing my observations not trying to attack on your words.

Yes unfortunately very true, you can just search on Douban and Bilibili, they don't even watch the drama but there are plenty of videos with high views about this drama mocking how the main leads looks ugly and this was done in a big scale to the point they trended it mocking things that they don't even care to watch but just being paid to sabotage it. One of the videos has high views is highlighting one scene the male lead actor belly is protruding when it was just the robe belt but no they are mocking his "fat". Another videos is mocking how the female lead face looks ugly shouting, they don't care what plot and why she is shouting they just care she looks ugly and made a mocking posts. Another video is highlighting how bad the CGI is just because the drama has this 1 second glitch in one scene they bought the hot search and trended it that it has bad CGI mocking and laughing at it leading the crowd. Chinese netizens is toxic whatever written in the novel couldn't even come close.

So far I've read people who properly watch the drama is those who sign into the drama douban group or supertalk group, there are plenty on the hashtag as well, others were just waiting to hear if the drama is flop or not so that they can laugh at ZDY and XK, they don't bother to watch dramas any dramas in fact. In my opinion people shouldn't need to rely on others validation. If you don't think the drama is not good then it is not good, it is based one's preference after all, unfortunately many are still relying on a society majority opinion to validate their likes and dislikes hence haters can take the reigns in leading the mainstream crowd, often in c-dramas land successful dramas are being selected based on favoritism not quality.

If you go to weibo, douban or Bilibili these "many chinese netizens" doesn't even watch the drama let alone talking about the plot, their complain is the male lead is too fat and female lead is too ugly and bad cgi. Its perfectly fine to criticize the drama having a different opinion but to give credit to "chinese netizens" as genuine drama viewers who is all about visuals and hierarchy is....

why they got so much hate ?
You're welcome. Yeah they are obsessed blaming Xu Kai's fans for XK and BL unable to cooperate again finding and making up all kind of reasons, attacking Xu Kai's others dramas and it's female leads, comparing achievement, sneering at his "failed" drama while uplifting Bai Lu's just because they believe Xu Kai and Bai Lu is really together in real life and that Xu Kai wronged Bai Lu because they think all Xu Kai's projects are thanks to BL. I honestly don't care about these things as I just like to watch his dramas, who cares who is he with in his private life, but all these false accusations and made up rumors posting on his page and dramas page as if it's facts is annoying.

Seriously one of the best scriptwriting, directing and acting. The twist and turn really leads you feel like you have everything figured out even jest when the truth was being asked thinking that it is highly unlikely, then bam it caught you off-guard with the plot twist that flow so smoothly to the climax of the SP. Absolutely love it!

Watched until episode 3 so far, not bad at all, the storyline is in order and interesting, the plot twist is very smooth and natural flow with the storyline from the beginning. The connection and how FL and ML could potentially end up together is well developed so far.

Yeah unfortunately most CP with obsessed shippers always ended up like this making it difficult for the actor and actress to collaborate again. It's my pleasure.

Actually that was what Xu Kai's fans was asking them to do, to leave their private life alone focus on their work but their obsession with the pairings cause discomfort for both Xu Kai and Bai Lu to the point they have to put out official statement. But shippers fans think by supporting the official statement its because Xu Kai's fans are jealous when the fans just want this shippers to stop believe in rumors and disturb the private life of these artists. As you can see the OP mentioned all the rumors created by paparazzi about them as facts, that's why they can't collaborate anymore because of fans like this who won't leave their private life alone believing and spreading these rumors as facts, working together again it will give materials for paparazzi to create more stories diverting from their works. Hence why they stop collaborating.

Can you provide the sources? Because as far as I know your comments is in-line with the obsessed Kailu shippers who couldn't move on from the ship and wanted them to work together over and over again to the point of being toxic and creating stories everywhere. and every time I asked sources from obsessed shippers like you, always the answer is Google some info watch some videos, like yeah PHD can be done with just a simple Google and videos made up by people?

So where is the sources for Xu Kai's fans sent threat to her parents? Last time I asked someone they gave me a source from an article that came out in 2018 when Bai Lu was being attacked by black fans who got angry at the screentime she got over the main leads in Untouchable Lovers and at that time she announced that her mom has just opened weibo and the black fans flocked over to her mom weibo. Xu Kai and Bailu has not released any drama together yet at this time and no CP tie up yet. But obsessed shippers fabricated this as one of the "bad" things Xu Kai's fans did to Bai Lu.

The second point of Xu Kai spending time at Bai Lu's house, when the very blurry paparazzi shot went out it was obviously a hotel in Hengdian where most of the artist filming there would stay because Hengdian did not have many hotels at the time. But paparazzi twisted the facts by saying it's Bai Lu's house in Beijing. At that time I thought who would believe this crap put together gossip, oh there are people who believe. No one asked you to ship them why can't people just watch the drama and appreciate the performance and production, leave this people's private life alone.

is it a high budget drama getting flopped??
You are welcome to watch the drama yourself and see if you like the plot, characters, and production if it suit your taste, drama and film making is art, not a popularity contest

I believe it's because of the e-sports controversy. I have heard that the love story in this series, is inspired…
Yeah actually the word plagiarism was thrown around without fitting the actual definition, esports fans just use the words to make the issue bigger, as I have read what they claimed as the "plagiarism" issue is the author writing in some skills that famous real esports player has and put it into the character in FIYS but mix and match it like Lu Sicheng has the skills of 2 different esports player combined so they call this plagiarism. But in the drama none of this is mention specifically they just say which position Lu Sicheng is good at and what is his specialization skills, considering the drama has already changed from LOL game to OPL those skills couldn't be apply anymore anyway but these esports fans don't care they just wanted to put anyone related to the novel to be put on the pillar of shame.

That is true they can't speak for all esports player and actually most of these are the fans, esports player themselves wouldn't dare to do this due to sponsorship obligation or have the time, I do understand some of the critics saying about the whole romance issue being told through esports for them is like just using the field as a cool point, but then again this is cdrama not a documentary of esports, and the production company did actually put out a documentary for esports as a way to apologize and still provide respect for the field. But as you can see the fans being portrayed in the drama is pretty much what the real fans does.

Douyin is the Tik Tok of China (in fact China created Douyin and then make an international version call TikTok lol) you have to download the apps separate from TikTok and and search for the hashtag #你微笑时很美 you will see many edits and trending videos from drama watcher users. If the reviews are bad and no one watch in China it wouldn't achieve 2billion+ views and has average of 80million per episode broadcast result which is one of the highest cdrama result this year actually.

I didn't watch this drama fully because this type of drama genre it's not my cup of tea ^^; but being fan of Xu Kai I did follow the situation surrounding this drama issue since the start of filming, esports fans has long has hatred with the author of this novel but despite the war and boycott between the author and esports fans the novel rating remained high so it sort of not affecting the author as they wanted her to also considering it's a novel, the only place they can vent is in the comment section that's why the drama became their major target to vent their revenge because it gave a more open platform to state their boycott aka Douban. But as far as I know the drama has already change all of those that was considered plagiarism and even work on collaboration with some of the esports club involved. But esports fans didn't know this and assumed the same as the novel.

The one you saw at Douban page is not netizens comment but esports fans pretending to talk about the drama, if you can see their comment saying what the drama did wrong is all what is the issue with the original novel, they didn't know that those things are not in the drama anymore since they didn't watch. Mostly good reviews came from Douyin, which is more younger users popular platform and not everyone play douban and weibo anymore considering Douyin is their leading social platform now.
