I think if there is weak point this drama have is they are rushed in the ending after spending a huge amount of time on Wuhuan development that they failed to emphasized the terrible doom of tribulation of chaos and how excruciating it is actually for Bai Jue to take over this task making Bai Jue's sacrifice felt less impactful (It still make me bawled lol) to the audience to understand Bai Jue's action in preventing Shang Gu knowing about it.

Regarding Bai Jue's reasoning, it is to let Shang Gu live as a normal person as the person above replied, the original plan is to do all this quietly as he already used half of his power suppressing tribulation of chaos temporarily for almost 60,000 years and he split his original being to cultivate the demon power and merge immediately to form the power of chaos but unexpectedly it develop it's own spiritual root and form its own identity and got out of northsea created it's own life and memories. That's why for me while Qing Mu is adorable and sweet, he is actually a catastrophe in Bai Jue's plan that he has lay out in 60,000 years to do all this quietly it escalated too much that by the time Bai Jue came back the only option he has in still proceeding his plan is doing what he did that is by making Shang Gu hate him although he know he will hurt Shang Gu and himself in the process, this is actually Bai Jue's character flaw that he admitted back in episode 4 where he said to Hongri when Shang Gu angry at him after he used her to imprison Xuanyi, "You mean I only care about the result and the cause when I act and order and I am too heartless?" this aspect of his character is also the drive in his decisions to take the sacrifice for Shang Gu and even Hong Ri pointed out that people always misunderstood him because he always did things the way it is. For me this consistency in character that save the plot bugs.

The flaw here is the wedding where in the book there is a part where Bai Jue forced wu huan to climbed up 10,000 steps up to the wedding ceremony and humiliated her by questioning her wanting to sit beside emperor as Zhiyang's instructions doesn't involve Wu Huan but she acted more superior than Mu Guang. This scene as subtle but important as it assert Bai Jue's character and why he is proceeding with his plan despite it all but drama didn't do this but make Wu Huan get away with things instead and Bai Jue can only hide his anger in silence or risking destroy everything he plan for but from audience point of view he didn't do anything. Majority of the changes they made in the drama is great but unfortunately this changes tone down Bai Jue's reasoning in more or less hurting Shang Gu making a lot of audience who don't read the book has a big misunderstanding on the gravity of Bai Jue's sacrifice.

But like you said acting is top notch and for me this contribute to the character consistency making the drama still very good as a whole as the feelings of the character is well delivered making audience empathized and attached to the story despite it's small flaws.

You're welcome! Yeah hopefully you will like it. Ahaha yeah he is a very good actor I found myself enjoying his dramas even with flaw script because often his portrayal is confident and convincing. and yes he did comedy very well, it feels natural and not forceful.

Oh this drama definitely not in-your-face kind of humor, the humor lies in the blase way of the characters reacting towards it. Their humor mostly lies in patronizing the logics in xianxia and cdramas like cultivation levels, spiritual beast, master and desciple.

I also felt like they are planning for October release! Because considering post-production period 5 months is logical enough for October release since they finished filming in June.

Oh no, if until episode 8 you still couldn't get into it, then it might not be your kind of genre haha but it's okay this drama is actually based on anime and it break a 4th wall kind of thing, and parodies of xianxia dramas and more on games and puzzles and logic argument, romance is very minimal, but the antics between Wang Lu and Wang Wu is very funny the excellent part about this drama is the comedy trope, I personally love this drama and like to rewatch it many times but episode 8 is the development of more funny part but if you still felt boring maybe you could give until episode 14-ish then if still no, it's definitely not your cup of tea haha and that's okay

Maybe because the part that trailer took is the softer tone. But yes it will be their own voice because the director requested that specifically. :D

Giving 1 star to every single Xu Kai's drama while giving 10 star to every single Bai Lu's drama is your kind of healthy mental development judgement? Okay then toxic Bai Lu's fans that's your logic. So what if all websites wrote about it, those are brainless marketing account only brainless people read it... they are actors and actress whoever they date or used to date is none of your concern just focus on their projects, unless for Bai Lu's fans who are famous for digging on all Xu Kai's previous partner no idea why. Well I hope all fans of Xu Kai's previous, current and future co-actress will understand that only Bai Lu's toxic fans who like to attack other their actress like this so don't take them too seriously just be mentally ready because they will come to attack your actress unfairly. My pleasure. A reminder, this drama is pure comedy and break 4th wall kind of drama because it's adapted from anime so there are some crazy things in there. It's a low cost drama so the cgi is not good, but you won't notice those once you watch the drama because the plot is just too good.

Because of acting skills both the female lead and Xu Kai, their chemistry is GOLD, seriously try to watch, it's one of his best dramas and high view rating in China too.

He is certainly young still and very new to acting (5 years) he himself always said he will always work hard to improve his acting. But I'm glad that even at this early stage of his career, many random people like you still have strong impression of him to make you search and go to his personal page to comment on him after watching his dramas despite thinking he can't act, that's a good start that he can draw in people this way.

I agreed, Zhou Dongyu is very endearing in playing the earlier role of Shang Gu, I fell in love with her bubbly personality which Zhou Dongyu pulled off without being annoying or cringe. Is there a lot of criticism for FL here? I haven't seen much, but yes criticism on FL in the media and reviews is ridiculous. So many beautiful goddesses in cdramas but no one makes me fulfilled in watching them perform as Zhou Dongyu did.

It was delayed because the drama plot line combine real historical figure and background with famous xianxia character and elements setting. China's censorship forbid this in the new censorship requirement which was enforced in 2016 after the drama wrapped up. But based on the list by NRTA, this drama is still not thrown into the banned drama list so there might still be hope of airing if they abide the new requirement and change all character name and places to fictions.
