The story was so tragic that I kept waiting for the miracle return. I figured out from the first time they showed the flashback of the emperor's brother's death that it was an agreement, but even I didn't realise he still let his greed control him and he took the throne from Huayong. I like that he was not just a deadbeat dad, but also a selfish POS who messed up everyone's lives, but still made Huayong feel like the sun shone from his behind. A man of many layers, certainly.
The only characters I found absolutely unbearable were the Gu sister and fake Bu Shulin's wife. Tiresome and unnecessary.

I found it an odd ask for the ex because they have been separated for so long and she's re-married. It got even worse when he revealed the circumstances of their break-up. The fact that the first thing her mother asked was about his mother also made me upset cos it's just making him revisit his own grief because she didn't want to do the hard thing of breaking her mother's heart with the news of the present day. I even had the thought that her current husband might find the whole thing very uncomfortable and awkward.
I also didn't understand why FL kept being upset about him talking to his ex. It's not even like he was the one constantly bringing up his ex or hung up on her or their relationship. But I did not support the ex asking him to put himself in that situation even if he didn't have a new girlfriend.
Two things... (Cos I just started binging this) It was so inappropriate for his ex-wife to ask him to meet with her mother. They've been divorced for a while and she's remarried so why would she bring him into it? And in the end it was useless because that's just how dementia works unfortunately.
Second, for Ji Yoon to be that upset about him talking to his ex when she was the one who asked him to go and her own ex was the one talking shit about Si Woo not 5 mins ago really annoyed me. She gets very inconsistent sometimes and it's almost unbearable.
Also, I wish her parents would get divorced low-key.
I always need a palette cleanser after watching this show. Every episode is just Xiao Fan being a doormat who can't even speak while everyone around him walks all over him and insults him. So if his toxic wife hadn't done her thing, he would've gone to ask them to marry his sister, right? At least he's finally asked for a divorce, even if his reasoning is still pathetic as hell.

My point exactly. They've always known where he was and what he was doing. To call in an army to attack him because he's going after drug dealers and human traffickers who may or may not have killed his daughter is actually insane. They were unnecessarily over the top.

I don't understand why the government is so heavily involved in this plot. They've been watching 66 since he settled there, presumably. Or did they say they just discovered him? It makes no sense to pull in this level of forces to attack Kim for... Beating up human traffickers????
I think for me the funniest thing in this drama is the way incense is the ultimate answer to everything. I'm just patiently waiting for the princess to develop an incense that will counteract the mysterious poison in the crown prince😂
First of all, why does the daughter have zero sense of self preservation? First, the girls that bully her relentlessly are like "come to this isolated room for a chat with the chief bully" and she goes. Then, some boy says "come to the back of school in the middle of the night" and she's like ladeeda, nothing could go wrong. What an incredible idiot.
Secondly, why didn't he just interrogate the girl whose hair tie he found in a POOL OF BLOOD likely belonging to his daughter???? Why did he let her go? My only conclusion is that he wasn't one of the brainy spies... He's more of the point and kill type - the ones who take orders without thinking.
Anyway, the action is fun, but poorly set up because of the stupid choices that characters are making.
The intricate web of lies Ye Li has woven is so fascinating to me. I find myself wondering how much of her own lies she's bought into and how much are fabricated by the trauma she has suffered.
