Minguo period, two buddies where it's not clear who is with what team up to the very end. Compelling and anxiety driven in a good way--you want to watch the next episode whereas I was not enamored of Awaken and dropped it as too confusing and overacted. There are few dramas set in this period that I've watched through to the end as the espionage didn't hold my attention. This was the rare find.

The title does not even imply that, but to repeat what is explained in the first episode: it does not advocate for divorce, quite the opposite. Its focus is a lighthearted, occasionally silly approach to a serious and perhaps somewhat uncomfortable issue. Watch at least the first two episodes, you may find that it is an entertaining rom-com (it is not an insurance documentary), smartly written, nicely directed, superbly shot and staged, as well as finely acted by all. It moves at a measured pace that shows how the characters and their relationships develop, with an ultimately optimistic outlook.

The story of Luo Shu, who has a rough fate and was sold to the Qin family and later to a brothel as a child after losing her parents in a fire.

She once helped the county magistrate, Han Mu Zhi, solve a major case. Since then, she has stayed in the county government as a detective to assist in the investigation. During the process, she met Qi Meng Lin, a young man who wanted to travel around the world. The two of them work together to solve many strange cases; they fall in love and grow together.

In both titles, the high-school-aged protagonists want to make the world a just place. In Death Note, the protagonist used supernatural notebook to achieve this and focuses on whole world, whereas Re:Mind relies on earthly methods and focuses on specific group of people. Furthermore, both series explore the theme of spiraling into madness as the pursuit of justice unfolds.

The Paradise of Thorns (2024) and The Love of Siam (2007) are two of the most significant milestones in Thai queer cinema, but they look at the LGBTQ+ experience through entirely different eras and tones.
