Both shows share a dual of protagonists (Shotaro and Philip/Eiji and Ankh) who work together to fight the monsters of their respective series (Gopants/Greeeds). The transformation gimmick of both main Riders uses different kinds of combinations which allow them to activate various forms.

Both of the these dramas share well crafted scripts (female centric plot with a unique tone) and well executed plots twists. The women in these drama are no ordinary women and at the same time relatable as they are unique. Each have their own strengths and shortcomings.

They both also focus on romance; emotional but it doesn’t overshadow who they are but helps build their character.

The cinematography and OST from both are good too.

- both shows make you examine your own relationships, your family, your happiness, and your life

- they are filmed beautifully

- the acting is 100%, they feel like real people, not creations

The main leaders are Shen Yue (Shancai - 2018) & Jerry Yan (Dao Ming Si - 2001) in Meteor Garden.

The theme of both shows deals with the mysteries and journeys of tomb excavation amongst friends and foes.

Tony Yang and King Chin are in both of these, and they’re both about gay characters. However, they’re pretty different in tone, Formula 17 is pretty fun and lightheaded while Crystal Boys is way more serious.

The leader of the Shao Yang clan hosts a magic and martial arts tournament for young apprentices. His daughter Chu Xuan Ji, who has been deprived of the use of her senses, has been entered in the competition – even though her skills are far from advanced. Also taking part in the competition is the Lize Palace’s star student Yu Si Feng.
Students are forbidden from embarking on romantic relationships with one another. But when the two meet, they first become firm friends…and then start to develop much deeper feelings for one another. After a dispute between other students, Chu Xuan Ji is injured and the two young students become separated. To make matters worse, Yu Si Feng is cursed with a spell that forces him to wear a mask that will only fall away if he can find true love.
But four years later, their paths cross again – and the duo slowly begins to learn that their pasts (as well as their futures) may well be intertwined, with heavenly forces very interested in their fate.

Although the story lines aren’t similar, the concept of transportation system (a train in Train and the subway in Catch the Ghost) is what the mystery in both dramas are based on. The killers in both dramas have a similar strategy in murders too, both having to do with suitcases...

They both have high school settings and love triangles. The male leads in both dramas have a simple, child-like, pure adoration for the female lead. However, while Love Alarm has some fantasy elements, Extraordinary You is definitely more fantastical. Extraordinary You is also lighter fare.

'This is not what I expected' is the movie adaptation of the book 'Dating in the Kitchen' is based on.

The missed opportunities to be together subplot, the color grade effect, "subtle" romance. Good dialogue, but not so dramatic

Cute, comfortable shows where friends enjoy good meals. Contains a lot of hot food and will give you a warm, fuzzy feeling during and after watching. Both are great to watch in late fall and winter.

Both are adapted from a BL novel but got changed to bromance in the making. This guarantees for Bromance at its best! The two male leads go from a cold relationship to becoming brothers for life (more extreme in Xiang Long were they are actually at each other's throats at the beginning.
If you liked one, I'd definitely recommend the other!
