WAS GOOD BUT KIND OF BORING

To be honest, the plot was actually quite good. It effectively showed how blackmail can seriously affect people’s lives, especially those who have experienced it firsthand. That aspect of the story felt meaningful and relevant, which I appreciated.

However, there were moments where the pacing didn’t work well. Some episodes felt unnecessary, almost like they were just added to stretch the story longer than it needed to be. I don’t really understand why it had to reach 13 episodes, because the main storyline could have been delivered in fewer episodes without losing its impact. The first few episodes already showed some of the couples developing feelings, it started to feel dragged out, and some parts became a bit boring.

I was also a bit confused about how the Sea and Lanee developed their feelings for each other so quickly. It felt rushed and lacked enough buildup, making it harder to fully understand or connect with their relationship.

As for the acting, there were moments that felt a bit cringe or awkward, with some scenes being hard to watch. Still, despite those flaws, the overall performance was decent and showed potential.

Also, I’d love to see more of Atom and Domon—their chemistry stood out to me, and they definitely deserve more screen time bc i enjoyed their chemistry than the main MC's

Okay, so...

The Heart Killers startefd off STRONG. I love the idea since it's based on "The Taming of the Shrew" which is a good story, and I also love BLs, so I wacthed this with a high bar.
It had comedy, romance, angst (which I am a sucker for) and also some wholesome moments. I honestly really loved seeing Style going after Fadel. It was pretty much the biggest reason why I kept watching.
I thought this for a while but Dunk's acting is stiff. When I first saw him, I didn't notice. But after seeing Hidden Agenda and then rewatching Star in My Mind it was kind of shocking. The Heart Killers only made me think it more. I'm not saying he's a bad actor as I've seen worse, but he should relax a little more. Maybe even study different face expressions?
Joong and Khao did well, and I liked their characters.
First also did well but his character was a little annoying, and narcissistic in a way.
The series itself is quite nice and I thought that it was going to go smoothly after they exposed Lilly, but the second half of episode 12 was kind of disappointing. That whole "dinner with mom" part was such a turn off. Was it really necessary? No. It actually would have been a lot better without it, as if Lilly never got out of prison. It was too dramatic and so out of place. I'm saying this as someone who wants to study film, but having the antagonist come back with such a dramatic revenge plan to just fail in such a weird way is not a good thing to add in a final episode, especially if it's less than 10 minutes.
Also, the fighting scenes looked so odd as you can see how much enthusiastic they WEREN'T. At least try to look like you're trying.
OK! Regardless of those, the series is really good.

Oof. I haven't been this boiled over a show in a while lol.

I always base my reviews on how a show has made me feel. I'm not clever enough to delve into the intricacies of the deeper meaning of plots, dialogue etc. I go on vibes only, so my review is solely that - and no other reason.

The first two episodes were so lovely and cosy, I was having a great time walking the line with the two male leads - it definitely would have been a 9 star show. And then episodes 3 and 4 came along and made me hate-rage like I haven't hate-raged a show in a while. The snap decision Akira made, after spending all those years with Nishi was such a bad plot move. Whew. Akira, you're now on my hated characters list lol. (Nisha, you're a total sweetheart and deserved better - my five stars are for him and the first two eps only) This plotline was my idea of hell - I admit I'm not a fan of these kind of breakups and long separations when other people are involved, so I know I'm the wrong demographic (again, this is only my opinion) and had I read reviews before watching, I would have swerved this show.

I'm more vexed that we didn't see sweet raggedy-haired Nishi during those 8 years. How did he live? Did he achieve his goals? did he find other relationships? He forgave Akira too easily, and had the show added a fifth episode better fix what he'd broken, I might have been on board for a reconciliation instead of been left feeling empty and mad. lol.

I will end on a positive. The acting was stellar!! I loved both actors portrayal of their characters and would love to watch more of their shows.

Not a Drama for strong men

The main reason that I gave this TV series a 5 out of 10 is that the main male character is too passive and is just pathetic. How can a man respect a guy who still has feelings for a woman who dumped him so coldly and cruelly? Why has he not got a girl friend in 10 years? Does he have low testosterone? He seems like a guy who is lost and sad. The female lead is good, but she is just a bit pathetic too in that she has not married and is now 30 years old with a job that does not pay much. It would have been better if both leads had had bad relationships and had given up finding someone special and then found each other again. It is sad how many TV shows in Korea and in the West have weak male leads.

Best Costume Drama of 2026 So Far!

I think this may be the best chinese drama in 2026 so far. it's got visual, good storyline and pace, in depth characters etc.

Okay, now that I’ve said it, I really mean it.

Pursuit of Jade feels like one of those rare dramas where everything just clicks. The cinematography is stunning without trying too hard, the pacing never drags (which is honestly a miracle these days), and the story unfolds in a way that keeps you emotionally invested from beginning to end. But what truly elevates it is the characters, how they're layered, flawed, and incredibly human.

Fan Changyu, was just wow… she completely stole my heart. Changyu is the definition of resilience. She’s strong not just physically, but mentally in a way that feels so grounded and real. Despite growing up and being treated like an outsider in her own town, she never let bitterness consume her. Instead, she remained kind, genuinely kind. Not naive, not overly forgiving to the point of being unrealistic, but someone who chooses compassion even when it would be easier not to. What I love most about her is how deeply she loves. Whether it’s her family or even people who have wronged her, she gives chances, not because they deserve it, but because she chooses to. There’s something so admirable and honestly adorable about that. She’s soft without being weak, and strong without losing her warmth. That balance is so hard to write, but they nailed it.

And then we have Yan Zheng / Xie Zheng… this man is down horrendous for Changyu and I love every second of it. He didn’t just fall in love, he committed in a way that feels both intense and comforting. He accepted everything about her: her kindness, her family, her circumstances. He married her at her request. He helped her keep her land deed. He went out of his way to bring, Chang Ning, back. Like… the man said “I’m all in” and never looked back. Honestly, it’s like he fell in love and just never got back up, lol. He just kept falling deeper and deeper. And if we’re being real? If he didn’t have such a strong moral compass, he could’ve easily tipped into the obsessive/possessive trope. But instead, he channels all that intensity into unwavering support, which makes him even more attractive as a character.

Now...speaking of obsessive and possessive…

The second couple, Yu Qianqian and Qi Min? I’m obsessed with them, and I mean that in the most painful way possible. They are doomed, and you can feel it from miles away. Qi Min is, objectively, terrible. Like...god awful. There’s barely any kindness in him, and the things he does to keep Qianqian by his side are genuinely horrifying. And yet… he’s written with so much depth that you can’t fully hate him. There are moments where you almost—almost—feel sorry for him. That’s what makes him so compelling. Qianqian, on the other hand, is living an actual nightmare. She’s constantly told she’s loved, but in reality, she’s more of a hostage than a partner. It’s suffocating to watch, and you just want her to break free. Their relationship is intense, toxic, and emotionally exhausting but in a way that feels purposeful, not gratuitous.

And here’s the thing I didn’t expect to admit: Qi Min’s love for Qianqian was real. Twisted? Yes. Damaging? Absolutely. But real. It’s probably the only genuine goodness in him. He just never learned how to love properly plus the fact that he's out for revenge and power., so it came out warped and destructive. That contrast between sincerity and cruelty is what makes their story hit so hard.

And I have to talk about Sui Yuan Qing because he was such a wild but fascinating addition to the story. He honestly feels like an echo of Qi Min, same darkness, same hatred but stripped of that one redeeming quality: love. There was seriously something off about him mentally, and the way he carried himself made that very clear. At one point, I genuinely thought he might be a masochist with how much he seemed to enjoy getting slapped by Changyu… like sir, what is going on in your head??But even then, the drama doesn’t make him one dimensional. Toward the end, I actually felt a bit of pity for him. It starts to feel like, deep down, he just wanted a place to belong, something to call his own after spending his life fighting for others. And his admiration for his older brother, Qi Min, felt real enough to humanize him just a little. Not enough to excuse him, but enough to make you pause.

Then we get a breather with the third couple: Gongsun Yin and Qi Shu, and they were honestly so adorable. There’s something so soft yet tragic about them being almost "forbidden lovers". The whole “we can’t be together because of our class” trope hits harder here because it makes sense, him being the Headmaster of Liu Yuan Academy of Heijian and her being THE Grand Princess. The tension is subtle but constant, and every interaction feels like it’s balancing between duty and desire. It’s quiet, restrained, and really beautifully done. I'm glad things worked out for them.

And of course, no general-themed drama is complete without a chaotic, lovable squad and Pursuit of Jade gave us the Pig Butcher Squad. They were such a standout. Watching them go from thieves/bandits who were against Changyu to becoming her closest comrades was so satisfying. Their dynamic brought so much warmth and humor to the story, and you could really feel that found-family energy. They’re loud, messy, fiercely loyal and honestly just freaking adorable.

Overall, this drama just gets characters. Whether it’s love that heals, love that consumes, or the desperate need to belong, every arc feels intentional and impactful. It gives you softness, tragedy, chaos, and growth all in one and somehow balances it beautifully.

I’m still not over it, and I don’t think I will be anytime soon.

Imperfect Logic, Perfect Emotional Payoff

I just finished this drama, and honestly… I’m so relieved it gave us a happy ending, because these two truly deserved it.

What stayed with me the most was how beautifully the drama portrayed resilience through Gi Beum. She was such a pure-hearted yet incredibly strong character. Life, fate, and especially that toxic boss dragged her through so much pain and humiliation, but she never stopped fighting. No matter how far she fell or how broken things seemed, she always found a way to stand back up. That quiet strength made her so easy to admire and root for.

Ma Seong was just as moving in his own way. His dream of building the village never felt selfish to me. It wasn’t just about creating something for himself — it was about leaving behind something meaningful, a place that could become a refuge, a memory, and a legacy. What made him so touching was that even when he was struggling himself, even when it cost him physically and emotionally, he still kept trying to protect Gi Beum. There was something deeply selfless and heartbreaking in that.

That’s exactly why the ending left me with mixed feelings.

Emotionally, I loved it. I was genuinely happy for them, and after everything they had endured, seeing them finally get peace felt satisfying and deserved. But if I’m being honest, the way the drama handled his illness in the final stretch was its weakest point.

The resolution didn’t feel fully convincing — not medically, and not entirely in terms of storytelling either. It came across more like a melodramatic leap toward a happy ending than a carefully built conclusion: he was practically at death’s door, disappeared, was found, survived, somehow stabilized, and then a year later returns as someone finally living his dream. It delivers emotionally, but logically it feels rushed and a little too convenient.

I really think the writers could have made it stronger with a more believable explanation — maybe a misdiagnosis, or perhaps medication causing symptoms like loss of appetite, blurred vision, and his worsening condition. I’m not a doctor, of course, but the way it was presented made his recovery feel less like a realistic outcome and more like a miracle.

Still, despite that flaw, I can’t deny how much this ending moved me. Sometimes a drama doesn’t need to be perfect to leave a strong emotional impact. And in this case, even if the final twist wasn’t the most believable, I was still grateful to see two people who had suffered so much finally find love, peace, and a future they could call their own.

In the end, this drama may not have landed every detail perfectly, but it absolutely succeeded in making me care — and sometimes, that matters most.

Two Generals Bound by Fate to Fall in Love

I want to start by saying that I had been waiting for this drama for MONTHS since its announcement, and I am pleased to say it did not disappoint!

I want to begin by applauding the acting; Tian Xi Wei ate! Everyone in this cast acted beautifully, leaving you feeling every emotion and really connecting with your character. Especially when side characters died, it was truly heartbreaking; you cried with them, you laughed with them, each of these actors did their roles justice. I have been seeing Zhang Ling He get a lot of attention, which he does deserve, because his commanding presence and acting as Marquis Wu'an was amazing, but Tian Xi Wei deserves so much praise. She portrayed Fan Chang Yu brilliantly, especially in the powerful scenes, I often found myself screaming "What a queen! What an icon!". The chemistry between Zhang Ling He and Tian Xi Wei was also impeccable. Everytime they looked at each other, you could tell, they were utterly devoted to each other. They were beautiful as a couple, sweet and adorable, and full of love! This coupled with the the effort and makeup of this cast alone made the show worth it.

Additionally, The OST also definitely deserves attention. The music fit perfectly with every scene, whenever Marquis Wu'an or Fan Chang Yu were onscreen as generals, the music really made you feel their power and authority, whenever they were on screen as a couple, the music made you giggle and scream at how cute they are. I will definitely be listening to this OST on repeat.

Now for the plot, which I agree with much of the internet, was the biggest downfall of this drama. Overall, the plot was confusing in the beginning, but as you watch, you will start to understand it, so the confusion was deliberate by the screen writers, but I do think it was not a wise decision, especially seeing that understanding the connections between key figures, eg. who exactly is Prince Changxin and his history etc., is so important in understanding the motivations in characters and why what is happening is happening. Furthermore, I was also so irritated by the whole mini-breakup/not break-up??? Like I get Chang Yu being mad that Xie Zheng hid his identity from her, but like she says she likes him one day, then the next day says no? so like I was a bit irritated. She also said that if Xie Zheng looks down on my identity as a butcher, then let him be, but at the end of the day she is the one looking down on herself, saying that she doesn't deserve Xie Zheng! That was super annoying. The worst part was the whole debacle with Chang Yu pushing away Xie Zheng because of her father's identity, that whole section was so unnecessarily long, like the back-and-forth between both of them was aggravating it watch. After all those episodes and time together, Chang Yu not telling him her identity and breaking his heart was very unnecessary in my opinion, it is almost like the writers needed another 'misunderstanding' to play with the relationship.

Overall, however, this drama was worth the watch. The sweet relationship between the leads and the power of our FL made this show so worth it!!

NOW IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE GL

I really was impressed, because i dont expected this to be so good, every time kept me invested with each episode, and I loved the acting of the main characters. You can say that the people behind this series did a excellet job, however, unfortunately i very bad at writing reviews, so I have nothing more to say besides how I love Claire and Bell

I came for the chaos and stayed for the schemes but the emotional payoff just wasn’t giving

I went into this expecting a typical palace revenge story, but what I got was actually a very plot-driven, tightly written harem drama, and I enjoyed it more than I expected.

The strongest part of this drama is really the harem politics. It’s messy, ruthless, and honestly very entertaining. The story takes time to show different consorts across the hierarchy, and each one brings a different kind of danger. Some are outright cruel, some are calculated, and some are just unhinged 😭 but it works because it makes the palace feel alive and constantly shifting.

Feng Qing carries this drama for me. She’s intelligent, strategic, and most importantly, she moves on her own terms. She doesn’t wait to be saved, and she doesn’t rely on the emperor emotionally or politically. Everything she does feels intentional, and that makes her very satisfying to watch.

The writing is also stronger than I expected. The schemes are thought out, and the revenge plot is quite tight.

But where it falls short for me is the emotional execution, especially the romance.

There was so much potential in her relationship with the emperor—their past was built on love, distrust, and power imbalance—but the way they reconnect in the present timeline feels underdeveloped. I never fully bought into their reconciliation. It lacked the emotional weight and buildup that it needed.

I also wish we saw more vulnerability from the emperor. Given everything that happened, there should have been more grief, more conflict, more visible regret. Instead, that emotional layer felt a bit too restrained, which made the romance less impactful than it could have been.

Some side storylines didn’t really add much (the adopted brother arc didn’t work for me), and there are a few moments where the plot leans slightly convenient, but overall the structure remains solid.

At the end of the day, this is a strong, engaging drama carried by its plot and female lead, but it stops short of being truly memorable because it doesn’t fully deliver on the emotional side.

Still, I had a good time watching it—and for this genre, that already says a lot.

8/10 - A solid and enjoyable watch with strong writing in its political and strategic elements, but lacking the emotional depth needed to elevate it further.

Silly plot, a series saved only by the CL (handsome and talented)

PLOT: On his first day as the new owner/director, Jin Yu Zhen (austere, severe, demanding) institutes a rule of mandatory celibacy (no relationships, no marriage). However, Shi Lei, the headstrong team leader, doesn't accept this. He lives with Jin Yu Zhen and gradually discovers that he's much better than he thought...

+++ The two leads are really handsome (especially Aaron Lai, truly magnificent) and talented.
+++ No flaws in the technical aspects
BUT

### Unrealistic story:
1/ Logically, Shi Lei should have been fired 100 times for his rudeness and lack of respect. Headstrong, OK, but his behavior is completely inappropriate for his subordinate position to a boss who saved the company.
2/ Why doesn't Jin Yu Zhen fire all the employees? They never work, they gossip constantly, they're unbearably stupid, etc. I know it's a comedy, but the director didn't know how to balance it!
3/ A jewelry studio that makes unique pieces, OK. But with copper wire??? That's tiny, tiny craftsmanship... And they manage to make a profit? With only 4 employees? That's ridiculous!

### The second romance is forced, abrupt, and completely lacking in chemistry.
### I absolutely hate the actor and the character of Zi Tong (artificial face, poker face, and unhealthy character). ლಠ益ಠ)ლ

=> Good BL, but a bit disappointing compared to the usual depth of Taiwanese dramas.
********************************************************

ლಠ益ಠ)ლ

=> Bonne BL, mais un peu décevante par rapport à la profondeur habituelles des dramas taïwanais.

Dream of Golden Years: Second Chances and Building a New Life

🎬 Quick Take
🔹 Only 31 /36 episodes have aired at the time of this review.
🔹 My standard for rating a drama is simple: writing, directing, and acting are the foundation.
🔹 For me, all three aspects clicked early and stayed consistent through the mid-stage, so this is my first impression: 8.0/10.
🔹 I still recommend you try it yourself to see if the story works for you.
🔹 If you enjoy growth-focused stories, this is easy to get into.

💚 Why You Might Like It
🔹 You enjoy time-travel stories where the main character takes action to improve her life.
🔹 You enjoy a strong female lead with clear goals.
🔹 You are okay with a story where romance is not the main focus.
🔹 You are watching more for her journey.

📕 Overview
🔹 36 episodes, romance + comedy + time-travel.
🔹 At the time of this review, 31 episodes have aired.
🔹 Novel adaptation (per iQIYI).
🔹 Zhou Ye portrays Xia Xiaolan, a modern executive.
🔹 Zhai Xiaowen plays the male lead, who becomes part of her journey.
🔹 The story begins when a workplace crisis turns her life upside down, and she is held responsible.
🔹 She is transported into another world, where she lives as a young village girl and begins building a new life.
🔹 She works toward a better future through education and small business ventures.

🌸 How It Felt Watching
🔹 I found this easy to watch and follow.
🔹 The early episodes draw you in with a clear and simple setup.
🔹 The story focuses on her journey and how she rebuilds her life.
🔹 The story focuses more on her progress than on big plot twists.
🔹 Themes: growth, ambition, education, independence, perseverance.

✨ Cast & Acting
🔹 Zhou Ye as Xia Xiaolan carries the story and keeps it engaging.
🔹 Zhai Xiaowen fits his role well, though the romance may feel light for some viewers.
🔹 The supporting cast adds to her journey and helps build the world around her.
🔹 Viewers who want strong lead chemistry may feel it is not the main focus.

🎵 OST 🎵
🔹 Only Want to See You (只要见到你) by Zhai Xiaowen.
🔹 Daydream (白日炽梦) by Liu Lian.

🎞️ Production Style
🔹 The visuals keep attention on the characters and their daily life.
🔹 The settings reflect her move from simple beginnings to bigger opportunities.
🔹 Flashbacks show her past life and help explain her decisions.
🔹 The story highlights her path through school, work, and business.

☕ Tea Notes
🌟 What worked:
🔹 The female lead takes action and moves her story forward.
🔹 Her journey from setback to rebuilding keeps the story engaging.
🔹 The drama is easy to follow from episode to episode.

🌟 What did not:
🔹 The story could use more tension in the middle.
🔹 The romance may feel limited if that is your main reason for watching.
🔹 Some story arcs repeat similar ideas.

☕ SpillTheDramaTea's Rating: 8.0/10
✏️ As SpillTheDramaTea, this story is about rebuilding your life step by step and making better choices the second time.

I just couldn't

. The over-the-top ML trope sounded fun, but the execution just… didn’t land for me. I actually enjoyed *Fish Upon the Sky* way more — it felt more natural and entertaining.

PondPhuwin definitely have great chemistry, but the acting didn’t quite work for me here. I found myself more interested whenever William–Est showed up… which unfortunately wasn’t often enough.

I know this was a huge hit, so maybe I’m the problem — but I was genuinely struggling to finish it. When you’re checking how many minutes are left in an episode… you know it’s not working 😅

A DRAMA THAT AWAKENS, NOT JUST ENTERTAIN

This drama is incredibly well done—female-centric and deeply satisfying, with a romance that unfolds in ways that feel both nuanced and real. It's impossible to explain how brilliant this drama is to people who just don't get it. There are no pointless scenes added just to manufacture conflict, no villains who are evil for no reason, and every character is fully fleshed out. This is the kind of quality you expect from a top-tier long-form drama.

In a sea of overpadded dramas, this one chooses precision. It is intentional, restrained, yet vividly alive. It moves with a tight, no-nonsense pace while still leaving room for complexity—for characters to grow, for emotions to settle, for history to breathe.

I especially love how it challenges the outdated idea that women especially those from rural beginnings must simply accept their fate. Instead, it shows how knowledge, ambition, and a strong sense of direction can reshape one’s destiny. Xia Xiaolan is such a powerhouse of a female lead! Strong, clear-minded, and written with so much care. And Zhou Cheng is the most perfect male lead I've ever seen in a drama. A strong female lead deserves a gentle and emotionally stable confidant like him. I just love them! 😭

Set during a time of economic growth, the drama captures a generation brimming with vitality and ambition, moving forward with a fearless, pioneering spirit. Every character feels purposeful and not just there to support the leads. Even the antagonists have depth, not just there to be villains. Truly a drama with an amazing ensemble casts!

From the plot and set design to the acting, cinematography, and editing. Everything just clicks! This is a drama that respects its audience, crafted with passion and sincerity. I’ve always believed that literature and art exist to awaken something within us—to deepen our understanding of life, of love, of the self, of good and evil, and everything in between. Hello 1983 does exactly that. I hope all viewers can find a positive message in this drama and feel encouraged by it, just as I did. Fictional works can also empower and inspire, and I hope to see more dramas like this in the future.

Finally, Xia Xiaolan and Zhou Cheng get their happily ever after (their last rooftop scene made me cry a lot)! I believe Zhou Cheng time-traveled to find her and take her back. They had previously agreed that if he ever went to the modern world, he would meet her and call out her name and that’s exactly what he did. The drama even replayed the clip of their promise. My only regret is that they weren’t able to air the part where Xia Xiaolan went back and everyone gathered in Granny Yu’s courtyard like they said in the interview. That would have made it even more perfect. We do get a glimpse of them with their twins in the villa but it’s so brief! We need a Season 2! I need to see their marriage life with the twins and everyone.

it's a very nice drama but it's a bit emotional

my review for this ,movie is that this was a great movie. I do recammend watching this since it's very sweet and emotional at the same time. I really liked the characters and the actors. I loved how the girl has a memory issue and her boyfriend helped her with it. it was also sad when she forgot about everything on the scene where they were on the bus since she loses memory when she sleeps. the ending was good but very emotional. overall I really loved this movie and it's very fun to watch so ya.
